PetStay Bristol & Bath Branch

Hi, my name is Fran and I am the owner of the Bristol & Bath Branch of PetStay. I live on the outskirts of Bristol with my Husband, two children and our beautiful Springer Spaniel called Sansa. Before owning the franchise I was a PetStay Carer. When introduced to PetStay I loved the concept of how it worked and this is what attracted me to become a carer. It is so important to give Dogs a home from home experience to minimise disruption and show them that they are still loved when their owners need a well deserved break. This means that not only can the dog have a stress free break but the owners can have a worry free time away, knowing that their dog is in a loving home, being looked after just as they deserve.

Why Choose PetStay Bristol & Bath

PetStay Bristol & Bath covers postcodes BS1 through to BS49 and BA1 & 2 and some parts of BA3. We have carers with or without Dogs so we will match you to the family that best suits your needs. You will always have an introductory meeting with the family chosen so you will be assured that your Dog is in the best hands. The benefits of home boarding are that we are able to follow routines you already have in place ie walks, feeding, sleeping and exercise. Your Dog/s will be welcomed as part of the family including lots of playtime and cuddles. We do not mix dogs from different families so you can be assured that only your Dog/s will be staying within that household.

How it Works

We love to get as much information as we can from you on your Dog/s so we can match you to the perfect carer. The next step is to arrange a meeting with the chosen carer to make sure everyone is happy. Once you have had your meeting and are ready to proceed I will talk you through the booking process and make sure you know all that you need to take to your Dogs chosen holiday home like not forgetting their favourite toy for instance or brush if your dog requires grooming.

Are you worried about leaving your dog in kennels? Have you ever considered a dog sitting or home boarding service in Bristol or Bath?

At PetStay Bristol & Bath we’ve carefully selected many caring and affectionate people who will care for your dog while you’re away on holiday. Our dog sitters in Bristol who are all fully licensed (if required by the local council) and insured provide a far better experience for your dogs than kennels because we provide a home from home environment, a real alternative to kennels.

Here at PetStay Bristol & Bath we offer an outstanding dog sitting service to families who would prefer to have the peace of mind that their dogs are happy and settled in a loving environment whilst they are away on holiday.

We will pair your dog with a suitable loving carer who will ensure that your dog will receive home from home care and won’t miss out on any home comforts they are used to. Our carer will match your dog’s daily routine to ensure they remain as settled as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a PetStay Carer

What are the requirements of becoming a carer?

You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs and you need to be home during the day so you have plenty of time to give to the dogs you are caring for. You must have a secure garden and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have a dog of your own as long as your dog gets on with other dogs.

How are your carers vetted?

If you meet all the requirements listed above, we will come and visit you at your home. We will check the security of the garden, explain PetStay procedures and show you the guidelines each carer needs to follow. If you are happy with everything and we feel you would make a suitable PetStay carer, we would follow up a reference and arrange public liability insurance for you.

How many dogs can I look after?

Our service is on a one-to-one basis, so only dogs from the same household will stay with you. You are allowed to take up to three dogs from the same household, BUT you choose what you are happy with. We will ask you how many dogs you would like to look after and what sized dog/s you would be happy to care for.

Do I have to provide the food?

No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Any toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.

Does the dog/s have to be vaccinated?

Yes each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, have been wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of the vaccinations will be brought to the meeting and shown to you.

What about walking the dogs?

All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. When you have your meeting with the owners all routines, including the number and length of walks, will be discussed. The dog is only ever walked on a lead.

What if the dog becomes ill?

We/you would endeavour to contact the owner or the emergency contact. The owner or the emergency contact would be liable for any expenses incurred in taking the dog to the vet.

Will I be paid?

You will receive a daily allowance starting from £13 per day.

What happens next?

If you are interested in becoming a carer, please ring us for an informal chat and ask any questions or email us with your details and we will come back to you. You can also use the contact form on the ‘contact us’ tab. If we feel you are suitable we would then arrange to visit you at home.

Our Reviews

It was lovely to know that Walnut was staying with a family like us whilst we were away. He was a very happy boy when he returned – he’d clearly been very well looked after. Wendy kept us in touch with how he was doing in just the right way.

I just wanted to thank you for a fantastic and very well deserved 5* service you offer.

Barney had a lovely time staying with Kirsty and her family and I cannot fault her at all. She was extremely responsive to my messages when I asked for updates and also sent pics of Barney to me as well. She was so welcoming from the get go and I have never felt more at ease in leaving Barney.

I have had negative experiences with kennels so wanted the best for Barney to ensure he would be relaxed and well looked after in our absence. I cannot thank you enough for your help in this process and I certainly look forward to booking with you again in the future.

From the initial contact (Fran in Bristol), through to collection, PetStay were very professional. My 5 year old Cockapoo Jessica stayed with John and Jean for a week and thoroughly enjoyed her time with them. During an initial visit, John and Jean took the time to get to know Jessica and asked lots of important questions to ensure that Jessica’s stay would be as comfortable as possible. I also received several emails with photos of Jessica enjoying herself which was thoughtful and put my mind at rest. I would definitely recommend PetStay as Jessica had a lovely time in a home-from-home environment. Thank you John and Jean!

Much appreciated
He seemed happy and relaxed upon collection, which is a great sign.”

““Just had our first experience of PetStay and found it to be a caring, responsible alternative solution to dog kennels. Our 9 year old Ridgeback has just spent 3 weeks with John and Jean and was so well looked after. We had photos emailed showing us that she had become one of their family. Looking forward to future holidays without feeling guilty. Thank you Fran for finding Spice a lovely holiday home”.”

“Excellent service, great communication from Fran and the dog sitters. My 3 cocker spaniels recently stayed with Chris and Shirley who took great care of them and sent me a picture of them every day. Definitely would use again and highly recommend PetStay.
Thank you.”

“I wish to rate you 5 star !!!!!!!!!!!

I used your company for the first time on 6th -13th May this year

I have a 12 year old Staff named Coco who has cancer and has to have her meds every day and also needs to be watched over.

I dont know how long she has left as her cancer is not operable

You placed her with a lady named Kirsty and her family

Kirsty understood my dogs needs and how important it was to closely monitor her, I have never left Coco with anyone before .

She updated me with photos of Coco and text which was very much appreciated

Kirsty is a very caring person and treated Coco like her own . When I collected Coco on my return Coco was contented and happy almost to the stage that she did not want to leave Kirsty

I cannot thank Kirsty and her family enough

Just hoping that Coco is still around when I book my next trip as I know for sure that I would not hesitate to use your service again

Thank you so much.”

Just wanted to let you know that we were more than happy with Doreen and Tony and would have no hesitation in using Pet Stay again to look after Alfie so please pass on our thanks.

I’d also like to add my thanks to yourself as well for the smooth organisation leading up to our trip which was excellent and suffice to say we will be in touch when we book our next holiday abroad.

Our little 7 months old Cavapoo puppy Magic went to stay with Wendy. This was the first time leaving her with someone else. We used PetStay the first time and it was a 5* experience from the first contact, the initial visit to collecting Magic. She had a great time! We had daily update and pictures. Wendy and her family looked after our Magic extremely well and I would recommend PetStay Bristol and Bath and Wendy. Thank you so much for the excellent service, we will use it again.

To be comfortable, loved, well fed and walked. What more could a dog ask for. Thank you for making Poppy’s stay such a relaxed one.

April 2018

We were away for 7 days on January and we left our poodle Spike with Kirsty, one of the carers of PetStay. He was very happy and when we pick him up all the family was very fond on him already. He has used PetStay several times and we have been always very happy. We will repeat again.

January 2018

Poppy had a lovely 4 days with Carolyn. This was her first time away from home and she returned completely unstressed!

“Our 2 dogs stayed for 2 weeks. They immediately felt at home and clearly liked the carers. The carers listened very carefully to our comments about the dogs. When we returned, both dogs looked happy, healthy and groomed”.

Our timid Cavalier Lara has always been a very needy little dog, therefore always a huge worry for me when I need to find a sitter for her when we go on holiday. This was our third time with PetStay and first with the Bristol branch. The carers Fran matched us with were at quite a drive from our town for the first visit, however I must mention I contacted Fran with a very short notice. The drive was absolutely worth it- When we met lovely Jean and John, I almost immediately knew they will be the perfect family for Lara while we were on holiday, and that I will have a complete peace of mind that she is well looked after and happy! Jean and John asked all the questions, with a very personalised care and made sure I was sent regular updates with pictures. When we came back we found a very happy and calm dog, which was a clear indication she’s had a completely stress free experience! I would love to use the same carer again for our next holiday!

We went on Holiday in June 2017 and Poppy went to stay with Fran Walters and her family. We had a great time knowing that poppy was being treated like one of the family. We came home to a happy and content dog. Would recommend this service for anyone wanting to leave their beloved family pet with a loving and caring family. I am sure Poppy had a great time with Fran’s dog Sansa.

June 2017

I would definitely recommend Petstay in Bristol after my lovely sprocker spaniel had a 5 day stay / holiday with Fran and her family (and Sansa of course). Fran really wanted to know the needs of my dog from food, sleeping habits and likes and dislikes – I left knowing that Hennessy would be in good hands and that she would be made to feel part of the family. I had pictures sent to me every day that put my mind at ease and I could see that Hen had lots of cuddles and attention while I was away. Thank you Fran for extending your home to Hen

We used Fran at Pet Stay Bristol for the first time recently and were very impressed. Our Jack Russell (2 years old), Martha is a very nervous dog and is on a raw food dog with supplements that need adding to all meals, so not as straightforward as many dogs.

We found the pre-stay meeting very useful to gauge how Martha would react in the environment and get a feel for how Fran would look after her. This session was not at all rushed and I’m sure we stayed longer than we should have but nothing was a problem. The attention to detail that Pet Stay demands is very comforting but you do need to give them a thorough overview of your pet including medical history and it’s individual requirements.

Martha settled really well and very quickly on her 3 day stay and I think a lot of this was because she felt very at home quickly after meeting Fran & family (including her lovely dog Sansa) on the pre-visit.

Fran kept me informed of Martha’s progress at key points in the stay which was very reassuring and we never worried about Martha while we were away because Fran is so obviously a caring person and dog lover.

Martha enjoyed her stay and we will definitely be booking again!

All pet owners should know about ‘Pet Stay’….. A great concept and organisation!
Our quirky, fun loving miniature Yorkshire Terrier (age 10) has just spent his first, very happy week with Doreen and Tony. They, with their experience of looking after dogs especially Yorkies, were the perfect match for Chip. Doreen put us at our ease from day one, and we had no doubt that she would be a safe and understanding pair of hands for our little chap.
Thank you very much Fran for your meticulous and caring organisation.

Our 3yr old Vizsla, Meg stayed with Sue for a week during our holiday in April. Everything from the first meeting to the return pickup went perfectly. Sue is exactly what you would want from a dog carer. She is kind, friendly, obviously loves dogs and has my total confidence that she would make the right decisions for Meg in any situation. Nothing was too much trouble and was very flexible with meeting and pickup times. She kept us posted with regular photos and enabled us to have a worry-free holiday. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to any other dog owner.
The only one negative is PetStay’s policy of no off-lead walks. Meg is well trained and needs to run free. A long retractable lead helped but perhaps PetStay could consider a disclaimer that owners can sign to enable this?

Attached is a photo of Meg totally relaxed in Sue’s armchair.
Thanks again & best regards

May 2017

We were more than happy to leave our dog Buzz with Fran and her family. They immediately put us at ease on the first time of meeting them and Buzz seemed happy too! Fran was very helpful on what we needed to sort before we went and what we would need to take for Buzz’s stay which was very helpful… Whilst we were away Fran was kind enough to message us with updates and photos of how Buzz was doing which was lovely! Would highly recommend! Thank you again…

April 2017

Fizzy, our one-year-old spaniel/poodle cross, had a bad experience in kennels during the summer – she hated being shut away from humans, even for an hour. When we went away for a week last month, we wanted her to stay with a family. PetStay put us in touch with Emma and her family, who live within 30 minutes of us, and at very short notice they agreed to look after Fizzy.

When we returned, Fizzy had clearly been very well looked after and loved. It was obvious that she adored the family’s little girl. PetStay helped us to find exactly the right family to look after our dog, and at a very reasonable price. We’d recommend them to anyone.

December 2016

I found Petstay when we had to leave our 18 month old Irish setter, Orla, for the first time. I was nervous about leaving her anywhere but was really reassured when we met Fran and her family at their home. She asked lots of questions about Orla’s routine and sleeping arrangements and said she could even sleep on the sofa. Orla quickly relaxed and was excited to play with Fran’s spaniel. Orla has stayed with Fran a few times since our first visit and I know she’s happy as last time she barked at the front door to be let in!

November 2016

This was the first time we have ever used Pet stay to look after Poppy and we could not have been more pleased. She stayed with Jenny who put my mind at ease from the very start as she was so lovely and on the first meeting when Poppy met Jenny’s dog Pearl I had no doubts I was doing the right thing. I will definitely be calling on Jenny again and would not hesitate to recommend her.

June 2016

Just want to say a massive thank you to yourself, Tony and Doreen. You made our Christmas possible and we can’t thank you enough! This was the first time we used this service and it certainly won’t be the last. Your effort to find somewhere for Kia to stay at short notice was fantastic. Tony and Doreen were perfect and they looked after Kia as if she was their own dog. We will recommend Pet Stay to anyone who wants their dog well cared for. We wish you all the very best in the New Year.

We had a lovely holiday thank you and Jess did too. It was clear that Doreen and Tony looked after Jess really well and they said that they would be happy to have her again. We would happily board Jess with them again so hope they can look after Jess next year. In the meantime we will stay in touch with Doreen and Tony and go for walks with Jess together.
