Hi, we are Sarah and Mark and together with Chester, our Bernese Mountain dog, we run the Cambridge, Central Beds, North & East Herts branch of PetStay. Being huge dog lovers, making sure Chester is happy when we go away is of the utmost importance to us and we wanted to be able to give others that reassurance of knowing your dog(s) are well cared for and enjoying their holiday as much as you are. We cover the entire SG postcodes encompassing North / East Hertfordshire and Central Bedfordshire as well as Cambridge, Ely, Saffron Walden and all of the surrounding villages.

We know how difficult it can be to find the right care for your dog(s) when you go away. We wouldn’t let Chester go to just anybody and know how unhappy he’d be in kennels, so we want to give you peace of mind that our carers are carefully chosen by us and are fully insured and of course love dogs as much as we do. We don’t mix dogs from other households and you can choose to board your dog alone or if they love doggie playtime with a carer who has a friendly dog for them to play with. Staying in a home environment means your dog will get lots of love and attention from your carer and they’ll be treated as if they were one of the family.
How It Works
Before we match your dog(s) with one of our carers we’ll want to find out as much as we can about your dog, their character and personality, what daily routines you have, where they sleep, eating, their likes and dislikes or any special requirements they may have. That helps us to find the perfect carer for you and your dog and we will then arrange for you to meet them and see where your dog will be staying. If everyone’s happy we’ll guide you through the booking process and give you a list of holiday essentials to pack for your dog’s stay.

Being a genuine dog lover, having a secure garden, being at home during the day and no children under the age of 7 are the main criteria. You might be retired, semi-retired, working from home, so you are able to spend lots of time giving doggie cuddles. Here are the few simple stages of booking with PetStay.
1st: Ring or email your local branch to discuss your dogs requirements and dates.
2nd: We will explain all about PetStay and what your next steps would be.
3rd: We then take all details about your dog and then match them to the most suitable carer.
4th: A meeting will be organised for you and your dog to meet the carer.
5th: If you are 100% happy with your carer you would then be ready to book with PetStay.
6th: No later than 5 days after your initial meeting, complete our on-line booking form and pay the arrangement fee.
7th: An email confirmation will be sent to you.
8th: You’re all booked in and don’t have to worry about anything.
9th: Drop your dog off at the carer’s house with food, a bed. toys and anything else you think they might need.
10th: Go away with complete peace of mind and have a wonderful holiday.
*PetStay Arrangement Fee
Our daily rate is made up of the Arrangement Fee and the Carer’s Allowance. These are 2 separate payments. The Arrangement Fee is a payment to arrange and confirm the booking of your dog’s stay, and is due for payment within 5 days of meeting your dog carer. For a repeat booking the Arrangement Fee is payable within 5 days of your requested dates being confirmed by PetStay.
The Arrangement Fee is non-refundable or non- transferable
The Arrangement Fee is for the service provided by your local PetStay branch in selecting a suitably matched dog carer for you and your dog. The Arrangement Fee also represents a proportion of all the administration and ongoing business costs, including but not limited to, Public Liability and Employer Liability insurance, licensing, recruitment of carers, advertising, 24/7 support to carers, and business documentation giving you peace of mind and your dog a quality home dog boarding experience with PetStay.

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a PetStay Carer
What are the requirements of becoming a carer?
You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs and you need to be home during the day so you have plenty of time to give to the dogs you are caring for. You must have a secure garden and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have a dog of your own as long as your dog gets on with other dogs.
How are your carers vetted?
If you meet all the requirements listed above, we will come and visit you at your home. We will check the security of the garden, explain PetStay procedures and show you the guidelines each carer needs to follow. If you are happy with everything and we feel you would make a suitable PetStay carer, we would follow up a reference and arrange public liability insurance for you.
How many dogs can I look after?
Our service is on a one-to-one basis, so only dogs from the same household will stay with you. You are allowed to take up to three dogs from the same household, BUT you choose what you are happy with. We will ask you how many dogs you would like to look after and what sized dog/s you would be happy to care for.
Do I have to provide the food?
No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Any toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.
Does the dog/s have to be vaccinated?
Yes each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, have been wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of the vaccinations will be brought to the meeting and shown to you.
What about walking the dogs?
All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. When you have your meeting with the owners all routines, including the number and length of walks, will be discussed. The dog is only ever walked on a lead.
What if the dog becomes ill?
We/you would endeavour to contact the owner or the emergency contact. The owner or the emergency contact would be liable for any expenses incurred in taking the dog to the vet.
Will I be paid?
You will receive a daily allowance starting from £12 per day.

He was happy, relaxed and well behaved and will be returning later in the year so much better than kennels. We have used PetStay four times now and have had an excellent experience each time. Our dog has complex medical needs so leaving her is tricky, but each time she has been so well looked after and her routine with medication has not been an issue for her carers who are experienced in looking after dogs with medical needs. The messages and photos sent from the carers during our holiday are so reassuring. We cannot recommend PetStay highly enough and will continue to use them each time we travel.
Just wanted to thank you both and not forgetting Chester for giving Rocco the best time on his first holiday with you. From the first time Rocco met you all we knew we had nothing to worry about. He immediately felt at home and with the information you requested we knew you would look after him and love him as we do, he can be very demanding for his cuddles and that was absolutely no problem for you. He loved playing with Chester and it was nice to see Rocco with a dog that took no nonsense from a boisterous puppy but equally was gentle in playing with him. To receive texts and a video was a lovely surprise and very much appreciated. We wanted to use PetStay for our dog while we were getting married, we try to book but they were very busy. However Sarah went beyond the call of duty and by moving a date by 1 day, they were able to accommodate us. We couldn’t be happier with Keith and Margaret, they took such good care of Lilo, I’m not sure she wanted to leave.

Our beagle Alonso stayed with Sarah and Mark (and their dog Chester) in Potton Cambridgeshire for 17 nights and had a brilliant time. ATTENTION ALL POTENTIAL PETSTAY CUSTOMERS! – Your dog may not want to come home after a stay with Sarah and Mark! Our beloved pooch Loki had a lovely vacation with them and although he was pleased to see us on our return, he sulked for a good 48 hours as I think he was definitely missing his new best pal Chester along with Sarah & Mark.
This was Loki’s first ‘sleepover’ away from home, and like most dog owners we were worried that he would fret being away from us. Kennels were not an option, as Loki is used to company and although there are many good kennels out there, the dogs do not get the constant companionship and attention that they would at home. Therefore when we came across PetStay, it looked like the perfect solution for our pampered pet. We arranged to meet the carers first, along with their dog to ensure that both dogs would be fine together, and to see where Loki would be staying and how he got on with Sarah and Mark. We need not have worried as it was pretty much love at first sight with all parties involved! 😊 Therefore we arranged to leave Loki for a few days feeling very positive that he would be cared for as if he was their own pet. We received pics and texts to reassure us that he was settling in well which was lovely and Loki appeared to love every minute of the experience. Hence, we’ve had no hesitation booking him in again for September. A big thank you to PetStay and especially Mark and Sarah for giving us the confidence to take the odd vacation without our dog! I’m sure that we will become eligible for a frequent users loyalty card very shortly! 😊

Keeping your data secure
When you give us personal information we take steps to ensure that it’s treated securely and strive to protect it on our internal systems. We ensure that:
- Up to date antivirus and antimalware is installed on all endpoints across the PetStay franchise and franchisee network.
- Security updates and patches are regularly applied to all components of the PetStay system.
- Access to physical and digital systems within PetStay are restricted to only personal who explicitly need these rights to do their job.
We use Transport Layer Security (TLS) to encrypt and protect email traffic in line with government standards. If your email service does not support TLS, you should be aware that any emails we send or receive may not be protected in transit.
We will also monitor any emails sent to us, including file attachments, for viruses or malicious software. Please be aware that you have a responsibility to ensure that any email you send is within the bounds of the law.

We use a third-party software provider, Hootesuite to manage our social media interactions. If you send us a private or direct message via social media the message will be stored by Hootsuite for three months. It will not be shared with any other organisations.
