Here are the few simple stages of booking with PetStay.

1st: Ring or email your local branch to discuss your dogs requirements and dates.
2nd: We will explain all about PetStay and what your next steps would be.
3rd: We then take all details about your dog and then match them to the most suitable carer.
4th: A meeting will be organised for you and your dog to meet the carer.
5th: If you are 100% happy with your carer you would then be ready to book with PetStay.
6th: No later than 5 days after your initial meeting, complete our on-line booking form and pay the arrangement fee.
7th: An email confirmation will be sent to you.
8th: You’re all booked in and don’t have to worry about anything.
9th: Drop your dog off at the carer’s home with food, a bed, toys, and anything else you think they might need.
10th: Go away with complete peace of mind and have a wonderful holiday.

*PetStay Arrangement Fee

Our daily rate is made up of the Arrangement Fee and the Carer’s Allowance.  These are 2 separate payments.  The Arrangement Fee is a payment to arrange and confirm the booking of your dog’s stay, and is due for payment within 5 days of meeting your dog carer.  For a repeat booking the Arrangement Fee is payable within 5 days of your requested dates being confirmed by PetStay.

The Arrangement Fee is non-refundable or non- transferable

The Arrangement Fee is for the service provided by your local PetStay branch in selecting a suitably matched dog carer for you and your dog.  The Arrangement Fee also represents a proportion of all the administration and ongoing business costs, including but not limited to, Public Liability and Employer Liability insurance, licensing, recruitment of carers, advertising, 24/7 support to carers, and business documentation giving you peace of mind and your dog a quality home dog boarding experience with PetStay.

The Dog Carer’s Allowance

The Carer’s Allowance is paid direct to the dog carer when you drop your dog off

We were very happy with how Archie got on with Andrew and Heather when they looked after him. We took Archie to meet them and their lovely Cockerpoo Dexter initially and Archie made himself at home immediately. We took Archie again a couple of days before we went away and it was clear that he remembered Andrew and Dexter straight away and was happy to be in their home. Whilst we were away on our holiday  Andrew regularly sent updates on how Archie was getting on together with photos and when we collected Archie ten days later it was obvious that he had been very well looked after.

Missy had a fantastic week with Adam and Sarah and Amos the dog. I was quite anxious about leaving her for the first time since we adopted her at the end of last year. However as soon as I arrived to drop her off I felt totally at ease and knew she would be fine in their capable and caring hands.

It was nice that they kept in touch with me to let me know how she was getting on and the children especially appreciated the photos and messages from her to let us know what she was up to.

We are thoroughly happy with our service from PetStay. The introductory meeting is great for putting your mind at rest and making sure that both parties are comfortable with the arrangement. Our dogs, Hugo and Boss went to stay with Carol, Mick and Honey. First visit was just 3 days then they have just been for 12 days. We feel totally at ease leaving them in Carol’s care. She obviously loves dogs and knows her stuff. Carol and Mick take time to talk to us about our dogs. They settle in quickly and soon look at home. Hugo is very lively, they both have their very different personalities and Carol deals with them fantastically. Both Carol and Mick make sure that their needs are met. They had barked quite a few nights on their last visit and Carol and Mick had tried to work out why. As most dog owners, handing your pet over to a complete stranger for a stay whether be short or long is a anxious time. Chris at PetStay quelled these fears for us. They asked all the relevant questions that you would have asked like, will they be walked on a lead and how long, special diet taken into consideration, where they would be sleeping etc etc. So that they can place your pet with the best possible sitter for your pets’ needs. Our Sitter was wonderful she put us at ease after the first meeting and kept us up to date through daily texts, which was lovely knowing that your dog was not as anxious as we were. Our first experience of PetStay but a brilliant one. I don’t think our 8 month old Cocker Spaniel, Betty, missed us at all! Nyla was 13 weeks old when we first met Carol and from the first visit we were all made to feel so welcome and we came away knowing that our puppy would be so well looked after. We are extremely satisfied with our dog Milo’s stay with Odette and Ian. They are very friendly, professional and attentive. They sent regular updates on Milo with several pictures whilst we were away to re-assure us he had settled in and was ok. We were asked what his usual routine was re: food, walks, sleeping etc so they could keep to it as much as possible. The space in their house and their garden is great as it is very spacious and their is plenty of room for dogs to run around. Henry their Labrador is also very nice. Milo came back absolutely fine with no issues. We would have no qualms with Milo staying with Ian and Odette again and would highly recommend 100%.

After searching everywhere for someone to have our much loved dog Blake whilst we were away getting married this summer, I stumbled across PetStay after doing a google search. I contacted Mark who was extremely quick to respond with an email and then a phone call to discuss Blake’s requirements. He soon matched us up with Odette and Ian for Blake’s stay who we visited before leaving him with them. Blake has never stayed with anyone other than family before, but because all family were coming with us we only had a few options left and I knew I didn’t want to put him in a kennel. Blake is an older dog with various health issues and the thought of leaving him was a little daunting for me. However, I could not have asked for better care of Blake, Odette sent me regular messages to tell me Blake was OK- along with photos of him enjoying his stay at their house. He came back a happy dog and I could tell he had been extremely well cared for. I cannot recommend PetStay enough, and if I ever need someone to look after Blake in the future I would not think twice about contacting PetStay. “We were very worried about trying to find someone to look after our Jack Russell Milo. Milo is 13 and a rescue and when he went into kennels about 10 years ago he was so stressed that we decided never to do this again.
Due to unforeseen circumstances we found that we needed look for someone to look after Milo for a few days while we had to go abroad.
When we first met Mick and Viv we felt very comfortable and completely reassured that Milo would be well taken care of. They have a fantastic large enclosed garden and Milo just made himself at home. They both took the time to listen about Milos routine, he is losing his sight and slightly deaf plus he has a heart murmur. They asked all in depth questions regarding walks, feeding and how he likes to play and how he is regarding other animals and people.
The real difference came when we collected him he was just so happy to be there and Mick and Viv had done everything they possibly could to make sure his visit was enjoyable. I would not hesitate to use Mick and Viv again, the service was excellent and you could tell how much they cared for anyone’s pet that was left in their care. I cannot recommend them enough.”

I wouldn’t leave our dog with anyone else. I contacted Chris at Derby PetStay and talked to him at length about our dogs needs, as he has had 3 fits in 2 years. Chris said he look for a suitable match. He found the perfect home for him and we visited the home and were impressed with the couple and their home that we booked. I was a little nervous about leaving him as the last holiday we had aboard, he was in kennels and had his first fit but I checked after the first night and all was ok. I was able to go away feeling confident he was in the best place. When I collected him I could see that he had been happy in his holiday home and will only use Petstay in the future. I was very happy with the care that Lexi received from Gill. From the first meeting, I was quite at ease that all would be well. Lexi is an elderly 16yr old springer spaniel and changes in her routine can make her very anxious. But she settled in with Gill and Gill’s young springer spaniel very easily, and Gill followed her routine very closely. When I collected Lexi I could tell she had been quite content. Our dog, Tommy, is a rescue with many issues & has never been left with anyone except one relative. So it was with some trepidation that we agreed to attend a wedding abroad. We were recommended PetStay and in particular Viv & Mick. I spoke with Chris & was impressed at his meticulous attention to detail. We then visited Viv & Mick with Tommy & were happy to see that they were a warm, calm couple who welcomed Tommy into their home. Some months later we dropped Tommy off with Viv & Mick who thoroughly checked through all the information regarding the issues they faced in caring for Tommy. For his part, Tommy, made himself at home by exploring their large secure garden. There is no doubt that Viv & Mick are very experienced in looking after dogs but what is very reassuring is that they treat every dog as an individual & genuinely care. They were kind enough to send us this picture of a very chilled out Tommy on Christmas Day. When we collected Tommy, he was overjoyed to see us but it was also very evident that he was happy in his environment. Together with our vet, we were nervous about Tommy’s health but it is all credit to Viv & Mick that his routine & diet had been carefully maintained with lots of cuddles, relaxing grooming sessions, interactive playtime, long walks, snoozing on the sofa & being loved in a calm, quiet home. This whole ‘business’ works because it is professional AND has the human touch. Thank you!

We have left our dog Jasper with Lorna and Mike in Derby twice now. They are a lovely couple and we feel totally confident with regard to their care and obvious love of dogs. Jasper can be a little rascal but they seem to love him nearly as much as us, there was a slight blip on this last time, but this was quickly sorted with assistance of Chris at Petstay. We shall have no hesitation in leaving Jasper again with Lorna and Mike, and it is such a relief that we can now look forward to holidays without having to worry. Happy Clarrie
I have used PetStay twice. Previously I have put my dog, Clarrie, into kennels which she appears to be happy in but, when it could not take her last year, I thought that I would try PetStay. Although it is more expensive than kennels the service is excellent. We met the carers to make sure we were happy with them and they were happy with Clarrie. She has stayed with them twice and is very happy with them. Similarly, they clearly love having her. They have a comfortable warm house with a big secure garden and are near good country walks. I feel much happier that she is in a normal home and not a kennel cage. I would recommend this service to anyone.

Home from home
Our dog Daisy had her first holiday with Paul and Pat and had a great time. They updated me by text that she had settled in really quickly so I felt reassured that Daisy was happy. Paul and Pat were happy to follow Daisy’s normal routine.
I’ve used Petstay several times now with some different carers due to availability. All the carers have been excellent. For a few pounds more than kennels Daisy gets one to one, home from home care, so she gets a real holiday as well as me!

I can’t recommend PetStay highly enough. This was the first time we had left Brooke, our nervous Spaniel, with anyone but family so we were understandably anxious. Kennels were out of the question so we needed an alternative. I had several lengthy conversations with Chris, who very patiently, answered every question I could come up with, before we were matched with Diane & Andrew. We met Diane with Brooke before our holiday and were reassured that Brooke took to her, and that she seemed quite settled in their home.
We had several texts from Diane while we were away, to let us know what a great time Brooke was having. She had a lovely holiday and consequently so did we. Wonderful holiday for Paddy!

We were very apprehensive about where our young Puppy would go whilst we were on holiday, he was only 5 months old & Kennels seemed to bleak & austere for such a young dog!
Petstay were great, Paddy went to Stay with Liz & Alan- & Sketch – & he had a great time, going on adventures with Sketch!
We got photos & updates every couple of days & he looked very happy.

This could be the death of the traditional kennels

From the initial contact with Chris, to picking Barney up from Odette and Ian, this was a terrific first experience with PetStay. We will NEVER use our local kennels again – it was more like a doggie Colditz.
We boarded Barney from March 8th to 15th and, though he cried a little when we left him, he soon settled in. We received text updates from Odette throughout our holiday, and Barney was fast asleep on the sofa when we went to pick him up.
We heartily recommend the PetStay experience. The small increase in fees over kennels is more than compensated for by the quality of the service. We will not hesitate to have Barney stay with Odette and Ian again.

Happy “Ollie” days…

Our 9 year old Cavalier Spaniel “Ollie” is a very adaptable dog, but we could tell when we picked him up from kennels he hadn’t liked the experience much – he would cry loudly on collection and couldn’t get away fast enough. Petstay was recommended to us by another Cavalier owner, so we thought we’d give it a try. It wasn’t a lot more than kennels but the difference for Ollie was obvious when we collected him – he was pleased to see us but he was calm and didn’t seem so desperate to come home like before. We don’t feel guilty about going away without him anymore as we know he’s having a lovely time at his home from home with Liz and her family. Highly recommended.

Cassie stayed with Chris, Mark and the fabulous Audrey while we went for a few days abroad. Cassie is an 11month old cocker spaniel and we wanted her to stay somewhere she would be looked after as we look after her at home. The service from PetStay from the first contact to leaving my two small dogs with their host family has been exceptional. Nothing has been too much trouble. Max on holiday!!
When I booked my holiday I was so worried about max and where he would go, thinking he would have to go into kennels was awful as he’s my baby, but then I heard about petstay and I phoned them and they couldn’t have been nicer, they understood completely how I was feeling and put my mind at rest. They rang me back after about an hour and had chosen a host family that they thought both max and I would be happy with, and they were so right, I was put in touch with Laura who is the loveliest girl and we arranged to walk together with max and her dog and everyone just clicked. “This was the first time I have ever used this type of service and Chris was so helpful and understanding seeking a home for Daisy and Maisie at very short notice during this busy holiday season. I was very nervous about the whole thing as our usual dogsitter was unavailable. Thankfully he found a lovely couple not far away. We took both the girls to meet them and they settled in their home and garden instantly. They clearly love dogs and had plenty of time to walk and love my babies. I was delighted that they had no other animals as my girls are not used to sharing their space, which is something I mentioned to Chris in our first conversation. We were so pleased with the match that we extended the stay as the girls were going to be with a friend for the first half of our holiday, however I felt much happier with them staying for the whole duration even though it would cost us more. It was just the right thing to do.
There were further complications in the run up to the due day but Chris went beyond the call of duty to help out and reassure me everything would be fine.
When we got home and collected the girls, I could instantly see how much they had enjoyed their little doggy holiday. They have been home for a day now and show no signs of being insecure and clingy which for me is a really good sign. If I need to I would happily use this service again, preferably with the same couple.
Please be reassured I would not use this service if I was not happy with it.
I am extremely fussy about who looks after my girls.

They made us all very welcome when we visited and asked for relevant information to ensure Bella had a home from home and usual routine.
Jane kept us informed, by email ,how she was doing and even a picture showing how relaxed Bella was ,which reassured us we had made the correct decision as it was the first time she had been left with strangers .
On return, Bella was happy to see us but her body language with Janet and Jeff showed how she had become attached to them also (Jane and Jeff’s did too).

Lottie’s Holiday
Pat and Paul were amazing, they really took the time to get to know Lottie our 7 month old Border Collie puppy. Having used PetStay twice whilst away on short breaks, I have the peace of mind that my dog, Teddy, will be well cared for on my next break which is for two weeks. Teddy was just a puppy when he first had a PetStay holiday so I was obviously apprehensive about leaving him…I shouldn’t have been, as he seemed to have the time of his life!! Zippy over the rainbow…

I was so worried about leaving our rescue Staffie Lola while we were away for 10 days. We have only had her 10 months and didn’t want to put her in kennels .
So I got in touch with Chris at pet stay. After putting my mind at ease he found us a lovely couple, Vivian and Mike to care for Lola while we were away.
we met them a couple of times before hand and they were happy to help with Lola’s needs.

Thank you PetStay Derby for your help and especially to Vivian and Mike who looked after Lola so well. We will be back in touch for our next holiday.

Charlie’s fantastic holiday
Well where do I start we have never left our dog Charlie so when I was told about PetStay Derby I didn’t hesitate but contact Chris & his partner the owners of the company he found us a lovely carer for our 3 legged jack Russell with a lady an her husband (Diane & Andrew Charlie and I went for a meeting with the carer a week before we went on holiday to Greece the minute I met her I knew that this was where I wanted Charlie to stay with piece of mind that he was going to be well looked after with lots of love and affection would not hesitate in the future to have PetStay Derby look after our precious little dog would definitely recommend thanks to PetStay Derby and their carers

Couldn’t ask for better care for my dog

I was so worried about leaving my 7 year old dog with someone else, as I normally have a family member to care for him when I’m way. But I couldn’t be more please with the care he got. Firstly I got in contact with Chris via a web site I found. He was so helpful and lessoned to me regarding Alfie’s needs and put me in touch with a lady, who I visited with my dog before my hols. She was so caring and was happy to help with any needs Alfie as. When I went on my hols she texted me to confirm that Alfie had had a good first night and part way though the hols texted me again to let me know he had settled in really well. I was so please that she contacted me, as it put my mind to rest and I could enjoy my hols. Thank you Pet Stay for all your help and to Jane for the care that Alfie received, I will be using you again. One happy customer

Poppy’s vacation
I can not speak too highly about the service we have received from Chris from PetStay and the host couple John and June. It made our holiday knowing that Poppy was being cared for within a loving house. She is used to lots of human company so the two separate nights she had previously spent in a very good kennel were not what she was familiar with. The match was perfect and we had the opportunity to meet, with Poppy, the host family twice before we left her. They were so understanding and made us very welcome. June sent us “a whats app” complete with photo of Poppy and an update of how she was settling in. The personalised care and good walks were just what we were looking for. This made our holiday and was so thoughtful. This will now be a regular booking and one to recommend.

Sammy & Ruby’s break!
Sammy & Ruby have had 2 breaks with Petstay to date – 1 of which was at very short notice but the level of care and commitment is the same regardless. Both hosts (Karen & Sheila) have taken the girls into their homes and made them part of their families from the off – pictures and messages sent regularly letting us know what fun (and mischief) they’re up to so we have no worries when we’re away from them. Can not recommend these guys highly enough – will definitely be booking with them again.

Sonny had a wonderful time with his ‘borrowed’ family whilst we were away. He had clearly been well cared for and was happy, but tired from his long walks in the park. I would be happy to recommend PetStay to anyone looking for a loving alternative to kennels.

Perfect Match
Finding the right care for our boy Duke is so very important to us, and one of the reasons we don’t actually go away without him very much.
I stumbled across PetStay on Facebook and then after looking at the website decided to make that call. From the moment I spoke to Chris – who was just as big a dog lover as us – his approach and questions were just what I wanted to hear. Duke is a lovely boy and an important part of our family, but as a rescue and a Weimerarner Cross he is very high maintenance and he is nervous of change. Plus he loves to be around people and get lots of fuss.

Chris wanted to know every detail about what he likes and what he doesn’t and he matched us with Sue, Steve and Otto who were the perfect carers for Duke. I got text messages everyday with pictures of him looking very content playing with their dog Otto in their fabulous garden! This helped put us at ease from the very start.

Sue and Steve were so understanding of Dukes specific needs and really went out of their way to make him feel at ease, we actually think he would have been happy to stay there!!

PetStay is such a well organised and trusted organisation I wouldn’t leave my boy anywhere else, their knowledge of dogs and the carers is just perfect. Thank you!

Otto’s Holiday
Pet Stay with Ian and Odette has been brilliant.

Otto came home a happy dog and wasn’t in the least bit stressed by his experience away from us.
He seemed to have really enjoyed himself in his home from home and got on with the other dogs who were great company for him.

We had reassuring updates twice a day, by text, as to how he was getting on and he seemed to be having his every need catered for as well as plenty of fuss and walks.

This meant that we could relax having left him in good hands.
We are so glad we came across PetStay and would definitely use you again and recommend you to others.

I would thoroughly recommend Pet stay, Jane who Jack stayed with is a really lovely lady. She text me next day to let me know how Jack was and he was happy and settled with her for all the time I was away. I will use pet stay again when I go away.

Oreo’s Holiday
Thank you so much to Petstay helping us out with Oreo’s care at short notice! Since Oreo developed epilepsy a year ago, we have been reluctant to leave her in kennels and wanted a more personal environment where we could be confident she would be well looked after. Oreo is also a very energetic & social dog so it was much better to know she had someone around most of the time & had plenty of exercise. We will definitely hope to use Petstay again!

We decided to try PetStay as our dogs were not completely happy in kennels, they came home subdued and all you could hear was dogs barking which in turn made our dogs bark and gave them a bad throat. With PetStay we had Diane, she went through everything with us and made sure it would be a home from home stay. On collecting the dogs they ran up to us pleased to see us and I could tell they were happy, hadn’t been barking and had enjoyed the company which they’re used to. They’d had plenty of walks which ours need. I know now we can enjoy a holiday and not worry about the dogs.

Bruno’s Stay
PetStay was the perfect solution for us to go on holiday worry free and Bruno to have loads of attention in our absence.
We got Bruno when he was about ten months old and he didn’t have a nice beginning. He was living outside on a roof top, tied up and was very undernourished.
It took him a few months to relax with us and to go out in the garden on his own for fear of being left out in the cold on his own again, so kennels wasn’t an option, we didn’t want to cause him any stress and he loves a bit of fuss now and then.
Bruno stayed with Chris and Mark, communications were great and they even sent us a few pics of Bruno chilling out. When we collected Bruno he was his normal relaxed self.
We will definitely be using PetStay again, thank you.

Chloe’s happy holiday home!
Chloe stayed with Chris for 12 days. She had never been in kennels before and we didn’t want to start when she was 15 years old when none of our friends were available to have her this time. Petstay was therefore an excellent option for us. She was welcomed warmly and all the arrangements worked well and without hitch. Chris even texted us a photo to show us how well she was settling. She obviously had a relaxing holiday as she was very calm when we collected her, and had obviously been well looked after and enjoyed her stay. She is getting on a bit and quite lively for her age, but does have the odd accident as the back end isn’t working as well as it used to! We were honest with Chris about this, and he dealt with it straightforwardly and without fuss. All in all this was a great service for us and we would definitely use it again if needed.

We were extremely happy with the service provided by PetStay Derby. We were a little anxious at first since it was the first time we’d used the service and also because we were leaving Murphy for 4 days which we’ve never done before! However, we were completely reassured upon meeting Kate. She was very welcoming and Murphy seemed happy being in her company. She sent regular updates by text whilst we were away to keep us up to date with how things were going. Upon our return and on collecting Murphy, Kate was really complimentary about him and his behaviour. Again she was incredibly friendly and had clearly enjoyed having him to stay. Usually when we go away, Murphy comes too but if we needed to leave him behind in the future, we wouldn’t hesitate to use this service and we would request Kate’s availability first.

I can’t tell you how comforting it is to finally have a place for Holly to go and I feel relaxed knowing she was safe.

After the death of my mother two years ago I haven’t had anyone to look after Holly. I had a friend look after her once and they did a really poor job and I did nothing but stress and have to come home early from visiting relatives far away.

After this happened I chose to research for a pet sitter online. I think it’s wonderful that not only do you meet the carer, you can see their home and you don’t feel you have to say yes to anything you’re not comfortable with.

I can clearly see from Holly coming home today that she’s happy and healthy. She clearly has been walked and taken care of well as she’s settled and happy.

I would recommend Pet Stay 100% and I know I would be happy going away in the future in the knowledge that my little girl is safe and happy.

I am so happy she’s been well looked after.

I look forward to talking to you next month in regards to July when I’m next away.

I am writing to thank you for the support I received from yourself, when I contacted you regarding the possibility of leaving both my boys with one of your host families whilst I was away overseas on business.

From the outset, you were confident that you would be able to find a home that would be just perfect for the boys- You listened to my concerns and requirements and confirmed that a host family would be found.

True to your word along came two wonderful people by the name of Lorna & Mike, the boys and myself were allowed to meet our host family prior to the stay, which enabled the dogs to familiarize themselves with their holiday surroundings and myself to be sure this was the correct situation to put the boys into.

Guess what IT WAS!!!!!!!

They did as I asked and on collection found both boys fit well and very happy.

I will without question use PetStay again and will pass on your details to anyone looking for an alternative to kennels.

When I saw the advert looking for Carers with Petstay I knew immediately this was something i’d love to do. Chris visited us and I have to say he is thorough and puts a lot of effort into making sure he has the right people for Petstay. As carers we have been fully supported and have enjoyed and loved the dogs we have taken into our home for their holidays. It is testimony to the success of Chris and Mark that we are matched perfectly to the dogs we care for as we have had several return visits. We are now nearing the end of our first year and are looking forward to meeting up with old friends (dogs and owners) and welcoming new friends to our home.

In response to our enquiry Chris arrives and explains what is expected of a PetStay Carer. A variety of breeds and personalities to look after while Mum and Dad go on holiday or attend to business. A dog of our own for a few days or a week or longer to love and spoil and walk and play without the cost of food, injections, chipping and all the other expenses associated with keeping a dog as a family pet.

From Chihuahuas to Alsatians and Rottweilers; they are all different but all lovable. Mannerisms to get used to – a Shih Tzu that circles 3 times to tell you it is going to have a poo, a Colley that carefully picks out all the meat or chicken, leaving the dry biscuit until later when he realises there is no more of the tasty stuff, and if he isn’t to go hungry he better eat the biscuit. Differences in animal behaviour that make life interesting and worthwhile. People you meet in the street or on the park, with and without dogs, stop to talk and pass the time of day adding to the tapestry of life.

In 10 months Lorna and I have boarded 14 dogs giving us 10 months of loving pleasure. OK! So some TV or reading goes on the back burner and you get wet and cold some nights but at nearly 80 we are no longer stuck in an arm chair nodding off. Life has a purpose once more. So young or old, if you love dogs this could be for you.

Ian and I have been PetStay carers from January 2016 and we are loving every minute of it, we ourselves have been dog owners for 30 years mainly having Labrador dogs, At present we own Lennox who is nearly 14.5 years old and Henry who is 8 years old,having dogs to stay for their holidays is both enjoyable and fun (plus earning some pocket money is nice too) We have made many friends through boarding dogs for their holidays, and had lots of laughs from the dogs who have each had a different personality to the one before. If in doubt give it a go I have talked to many people who would love to do this work!

“I’ve been a dog owner all my life but sadly lost my own dog in the summer of 2014. Since then I’ve always toyed with the idea of having another dog, but now I’m retired I have to admit not having a dog has meant I’ve been able to go on holiday more and have days out without the worry of having to get home to be there for a dog.

So when I saw PetStay’s advert asking for carers it immediately jumped out at me. I rang Chris straight away and after a chat over the phone he arranged to come out and see me at my home.

The first thing that was very evident was not only how professional Chris was from the start but more importantly how the dogs and their welfare are his main priority! After Chris had done his checks on my home, he sat down with me and went through what was involved with being a carer. After our discussion, I was delighted when Chris said he’d love to take me on as one of his carers.

And so, I applied and got my boarding license from my local council at the start of 2016 and I’ve just boarded my first doggy for a week!
I can’t tell you what a pleasure the whole experience was. Chris really looks after you as a carer and makes sure you’re happy to proceed once you’ve met the dog and their owners. When my first doggy boarder Sam was dropped off with all his worldly goods, we spent a really fun week together. Lots of walks and doggy cuddles and gosh he made me laugh! With his quirky ways and little rituals…they really do tickle you! And after my week with Sam his owners picked him up and it was great to see how happy they were that he’d had as good a holiday as they’d had.

For me the flexibility of being a carer fits my lifestyle perfectly. Having a dog come and stay gives me all the benefits that a dog can bring, and as any other dog lover will know, the company of a dog is second to none. There’s also the exercise of walking a dog, which ensures I stay active. And of course I should mention, whilst it isn’t about the money, the money I do earn from PetStay goes towards my spending money for my next holiday!”
