Hi! I’m Amanda, the owner of PetStay Leicestershire and Rutland. 6 years ago I became a carer for PetStay, and my family and I have made many new furry friends.

I grew up in our beautiful countryside and over the years I have had many family pets; pony, goat, rabbits, birds, hamsters, ferret, and I have also owned my own dog. At present my family has a gorgeous green-winged macaw. As an animal lover, I fully appreciate how much owners care about their dogs and how important it is that they feel confident that they are in the best and safest hands.

Our Carers

All our carers love dogs and are experienced dog owners who provide the best care for your pet while you’re away. Each carer is personally interviewed by PetStay to ensure they offer a safe, loving, and comfortable home environment for your dog. We are fully licensed, and our carers are covered by our public liability insurance for your peace of mind.

Some of our carers may have a dog of their own. If your pooch is happy to stay with another friendly dog, we’ll arrange a meet-up so they can get acquainted and see if they’re a good match.

9. Drop-Off Time – On your dog’s drop-off day, bring their food, bed, toys, and any other essentials to their carer’s home. At this point, you’ll pay the carer’s allowance directly to the carer.

PetStay Arrangement Fee & Carer’s Allowance

Our daily rate is made up of two separate payments: the Arrangement Fee and the Carer’s Allowance. Together, these payments cover the full cost of your dog’s stay, ensuring they receive loving care in a safe and happy home.

Prices listed are per day (or part thereof), except for Bank Holidays, when the Carer’s Allowance is doubled — because we believe our wonderful carers deserve extra for their dedication during these special times!

Arrangement Fee

The Arrangement Fee secures your dog’s booking and is due within five days of meeting your chosen carer. For repeat bookings, this fee must be paid within five days of your requested dates being confirmed by PetStay.

This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable, as it covers the service provided by your local PetStay branch in carefully matching your dog with a suitable carer. It also contributes to essential operational costs, including:

Carer’s Allowance

The Carer’s Allowance is a separate payment, made directly to your chosen carer when you drop your dog off for their holiday. On Bank Holidays, this allowance is doubled, reflecting the extra commitment and care our carers provide during these times.

Together, the Arrangement Fee and the Carer’s Allowance make up the full daily rate for your dog’s stay.

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a PetStay Carer

You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs and you need to be home during the day so you have plenty of time to give to the dogs you are caring for. You must have a secure garden and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have a dog of your own as long as your dog gets on with other dogs.

If you meet all the requirements listed above, we will come and visit you at your home. We will check the security of the garden, explain PetStay procedures and show you the guidelines each carer needs to follow. If you are happy with everything and we feel you would make a suitable PetStay carer, we would follow up a reference and arrange public liability insurance for you.

Our service is on a one-to-one basis, so only dogs from the same household will stay with you. You are allowed to take up to three dogs from the same household, BUT you choose what you are happy with. We will ask you how many dogs you would like to look after and what sized dog/s you would be happy to care for.

No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Any toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.

Yes each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, have been wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of the vaccinations will be brought to the meeting and shown to you.

All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. When you have your meeting with the owners all routines, including the number and length of walks, will be discussed. The dog is only ever walked on a lead.

We/you would endeavour to contact the owner or the emergency contact. The owner or the emergency contact would be liable for any expenses incurred in taking the dog to the vet.

You will receive a daily allowance starting from £19 per day.

She has been amazing from the first time we met her, very positive and clearly cares a great deal for all the dogs she looks after. Because it had been so long since we originally went to see her, she offered another visit in November which we took. I thought that this was such a good idea and showed again how much she wants to make sure their stays are a positive experience. She asked for a day in the life of which we did and Ronnie was so happy to see her when we dropped him off. She sent me some lovely photos and videos and we kept in touch throughout his stay which was great and made us feel really comfortable that he was having such a good time. He’s fussy and doesn’t always eat straightaway but Sally came up with lots of ideas to encourage him, which worked a treat. From the start it was like dropping Kylo with an old friend. He went straight into the garden and was playing. After that he made himself at home and settled on the living room sofa.

Sally would send us a full update on Kylo, including photos and videos. He was on medication following a grass seed infection and Sally dispensed meds for us together with putting on his protective boot when going for a walk.

We were out of the country and we felt very comfortable leaving Kylo with them, knowing that he would be well looked after.

Never needed to put our dog anywhere before, we were really lucky to come across PetStay on the internet. I made an enquiry and received a speedy reply with lots of information. After doing my homework, PetStay came back to me, they had arranged for us to meet someone who was available to look after our dog. We was quite nervous, wasn’t sure at this point if we were doing the right thing. All our worries disappeared almost immediately on meeting Barry. The visit went really well. From there we made all the arrangements, paid the booking fee felt happier now we knew where our dog was going. Hugo was well cared for during his stay. Barry contacted us a couple of times whilst we were away and included a couple of pictures which was very comforting to know Hugo was okay. From the get go, Sally was great to chat with about Lulu’s care at our initial meeting. She was very thorough to ensure that Lulu would feel at home. I really loved getting daily pupdates and pictures throughout her stay.

Eventhough Lulu had some issues with getting settled at night and sleeping, Sally was always kind in her messages. She always reassured me that she was still having a good time looking after Lulu, despite some hiccups.

It was Lulu’s birthday whilst I was away, and Sally sent a lovely picture of a little celebration. She also sent lots of pictures of their walks, and I was so pleased to see how happy Lulu looked. I can tell Sally really loves what she does with the service.

Keeping your data secure

When you give us personal information we take steps to ensure that it’s treated securely and strive to protect it on our internal systems. We ensure that:

  • Up to date antivirus and antimalware is installed on all endpoints across the PetStay franchise and franchisee network.
  • Security updates and patches are regularly applied to all components of the PetStay system.
  • Access to physical and digital systems within PetStay are restricted to only personal who explicitly need these rights to do their job.

Emailing us

We use Transport Layer Security (TLS) to encrypt and protect email traffic in line with government standards. If your email service does not support TLS, you should be aware that any emails we send or receive may not be protected in transit.

We will also monitor any emails sent to us, including file attachments, for viruses or malicious software. Please be aware that you have a responsibility to ensure that any email you send is within the bounds of the law.

Contacting us via social media

We use a third-party software provider, Hootesuite to manage our social media interactions. If you send us a private or direct message via social media the message will be stored by Hootsuite for three months. It will not be shared with any other organisations.

Newsletters

We currently use a third-party online tool, MailChimp to manage our newsletter subscriptions, you can unsubscribe from this newsletter at any time.  MailChimp uses servers that are based in the US, therefore personal information is transferred outside of the EEA.  For more information please view MailChimp’s privacy policy.

Visitors to our Website

When you visit our website we use a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to various parts of the website. The information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone.
