Franchise Opportunity
Hello, my name is Ruth, and I am the owner of PetStay Edinburgh, East Lothians & Scottish Borders
When our own dog passed, we felt such an emptiness, but we weren’t quite ready to get a new dog yet, we missed the company but enjoyed our freedom.
I was on an Internet site scrolling when I found PetStay and upon reading I thought if our dog was still with us that’s where I would have liked her to go, further reading led me to see Carers where needed. After our checks and getting my licence, I became a carer or “Auntie Woofie” with my close customers and loving every minute.
I love earning the trust from each new dog and even learning about different breeds. It gave me a new spring in my step with all my new not only dog friends but their humans as well. Now I’ve the opportunity not only to remain a carer but as the proud new owner of PetStay Edinburgh, East Lothians & Scottish Borders, I will continue to provide passion and love for dogs with pride.
Whether it’s a long weekend away, business trip or a fortnights holiday, PetStay can provide your four-legged friend with all of the love and attention they would receive at home. The benefits of home boarding are being able to tailor make your dog’s “holiday” with PetStay. This means, we are able to follow the routines you already have in place at your own home, be that sleeping, feeding, exercise or companionship. Our carers will treat your dog as their own and that’s important, to you and to them!
Personalised, Home-from-Home Care – Your dog stays in a cozy, caring home, just like their own.
Solo Boarding Only – We never mix dogs from different families, ensuring a calm and relaxed stay.
Tailored Matching Process – We carefully select the perfect carer for your dog’s personality and routine.
Meet & Greet Before Booking – You and your dog get to visit the carer’s home beforehand to ensure a great fit.
Fully Insured & Licensed – Your peace of mind is our priority, with full insurance and licensing in place.
Ongoing Support – Our team is here to help, offering 24/7 support for both owners and carers.
With PetStay, you can enjoy your time away knowing your furry friend is safe, happy, and being cared for like family.
All our carers love dogs and are experienced dog owners who provide the best care for your pet while you’re away. Each carer is personally interviewed by PetStay to ensure they offer a safe, loving, and comfortable home environment for your dog. We are fully licensed, and our carers are covered by our public liability insurance for your peace of mind.
Some of our carers may have a dog of their own. If your pooch is happy to stay with another friendly dog, we’ll arrange a meet-up so they can get acquainted and see if they’re a good match.
1. Get in Touch – Call or email your local PetStay branch to discuss your dog’s needs and your preferred dates.
2. Learn About PetStay – We’ll explain how PetStay works and guide you through the next steps.
3. Matching Your Dog – We’ll take all the details about your dog and match them with the most suitable carer available.
4. Meet the Carer – We’ll arrange a meeting for you and your dog to meet the carer and ensure a good fit.

7. Confirmation – You’ll receive an email confirming your booking details.
8. Stress-Free Booking – You’re all set! No worries, just anticipation for your time away.
9. Drop-Off Time – On your dog’s drop-off day, bring their food, bed, toys, and any other essentials to their carer’s home. At this point, you’ll pay the carer’s allowance directly to the carer.
10. Enjoy Your Holiday – Head off on your trip with complete peace of mind knowing your dog is in great hands.
EH1 – EH26 and EH31 – EH46.
Our daily rate is made up of two separate payments: the Arrangement Fee and the Carer’s Allowance. Together, these payments cover the full cost of your dog’s stay, ensuring they receive loving care in a safe and happy home.
Prices listed are per day (or part thereof), except for Bank Holidays, when the Carer’s Allowance is doubled — because we believe our wonderful carers deserve extra for their dedication during these special times!
The Arrangement Fee secures your dog’s booking and is due within five days of meeting your chosen carer. For repeat bookings, this fee must be paid within five days of your requested dates being confirmed by PetStay.
This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable, as it covers the service provided by your local PetStay branch in carefully matching your dog with a suitable carer. It also contributes to essential operational costs, including:
The Carer’s Allowance is a separate payment, made directly to your chosen carer when you drop your dog off for their holiday. On Bank Holidays, this allowance is doubled, reflecting the extra commitment and care our carers provide during these times.
Together, the Arrangement Fee and the Carer’s Allowance make up the full daily rate for your dog’s stay.
For more details on Bank Holiday rates or any other inquiries, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs and you need to be home during the day so you have plenty of time to give to the dogs you are caring for. You must have a secure garden and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have a dog of your own as long as your dog gets on with other dogs.
If you meet all the requirements listed above, we will come and visit you at your home. We will check the security of the garden, explain PetStay procedures and show you the guidelines each carer needs to follow. If you are happy with everything and we feel you would make a suitable PetStay carer, we would follow up a reference and arrange public liability insurance for you.
Our service is on a one-to-one basis, so only dogs from the same household will stay with you. You are allowed to take up to three dogs from the same household, BUT you choose what you are happy with. We will ask you how many dogs you would like to look after and what sized dog/s you would be happy to care for.
No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Any toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.
Yes each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, have been wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of the vaccinations will be brought to the meeting and shown to you.
Ruth is absolutely brilliant to deal with- so efficient and great fun. Her enthusiasm for looking after our dog and the very obvious love she feels for her makes us feel extremely confident that all will be well when Betsy is in her care. The other carers who have looked after Betsy on occasion, all hand selected by Ruth, have been of an extremely high standard. We couldn’t recommend more highly.

We had a great experience using PetStay for the second time. Our dog is elderly and has a number of health issues which need to be managed with medication. She is also quite a nervous dog but Tricia was wonderful at taking care of her and was very understanding of her individual needs. The booking process was really straightforward and communication was always quick. We received regular updates from Tricia on how Leah was doing while we were away. We would definitely recommend the service as it gave us great peace of mind knowing Leah was in such good hands and was happy while we were away.
Thanks again,
Abi
I have used PetStay for a number of years and Haggis went to stay with Pauline for the first time. He settled really quickly with Pauline and thoroughly enjoyed being spoilt and being the centre of attention. The sitters are excellent and very caring of our dogs.
Aileen
We give PetStay 5 stars. From matching our cockapoo with his perfect carer, having taken our preferences and his requirements into a account, to being loved and looked after just as he would at home – not to mention the fun and stimulus on walks and outings. (You have a hard job to find another Mhairi for us).
Anne
This was the second time we’ve used PetStay Edinburgh and, once again, had a fantastic experience. Ruth was great at promptly replying to queries about dates, and sorting out our booking. Our dog stayed with Pauline for a long weekend, and had such a good time! He quickly settled into his holiday home, and Pauline was fab at keeping us updated with messages and photos while we were away. We couldn’t be happier with PetStay Edinburgh and highly recommend them for anyone looking for home boarding for their dog!

What can I say. Ruth and Thomas have looked after Olwyn twice a year for the past 3 years. This was Olwyn’s longest stay, 10 days in
total. As an epileptic, Olwyn requires medication 5 times each day. She has been perfectly looked after when she stays, with lots of fun also
included. We love getting all the updates from Ruth and I’m sure that Olwyn considers staying with Ruth and Thomas as her second home. A great experience for us how well she is looked after.
Gillian
Ruth, the coordinator, came back to me promptly about Ferns repeat stay with Sheila. I had regular updates and photos from Sheila during Fern’s three week stay whilst we visited family in Canada. I was greeted by a happy healthy pup on my return. Many thanks.
Mr Farquharson
Cath and Jim looked after our 2 dogs like they were their own, sending regular updates and photos. It was clear our dogs were happy and relaxed, and not even that fussed to see us when we came back!
Laura
10/10 experience as always with Ruth & Tam from Edinburgh / Lothian PetStay. Truly a home from home for our boy & the pictures and videos speak for themselves that he has a whale of a time. R&T are very dear to us and we don’t know where we’d be without them. Total peace of mind for us to enjoy a holiday once a year when Barney cannot tag along, and he always clearly loves his time with them. See you next time!
Emma
I have been using PetStay now for 4 years and cannot give them enough praise. Efficient booking service and the care given by Catherine and James our dog sitter is excellent. Haggis loves going to stay and they ensure he has a wonderful time.
Aileen
From start to finish communication with Ruth was excellent, everything was explained really well, Ruth put us in touch with Pauline, as soon as we met Pauline we knew she was the right person to look after Kandi. Pauline was very calm and nothing was a problem, she looked after Kandi the way we would have, she also sent us photos and videos while we were on holiday which reassured us that she was happy, which meant we could relax and enjoy our holiday. We will definitely use Pauline and PetStay again, I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dog sitter.
Debbie
Ruth is the best! She makes you feel that, while Layla is with her, she is her priority but also that she is having the best time herself with her. She sends photos of all they get up to together. I know Layla will have a wonderful time with her and that means I can relax and enjoy my break
Fran
We were extremely happy with Tommy’s stay with Gill. She is very attentive, took Tommy on varied walks, played loads and kept us up to date with how he was doing. I would have complete peace of mind if he were to stay with her in the future. Five stars!
Cheryl
Bertie had a wonderful stay with Mhairi over this last weekend. As ever, he was incredibly well looked after and we did not worry about him AT ALL!..
Ursula
Fudge stayed with Michelle & Craig for a few days in June. She’s been before and is very much at home there. We know that she is well looked after.
Tim
Our young and very active whippet stayed with the lovely Gill for a week. Gill was wonderful, several long walks a day, lots of cuddles and snoozes for Violet, and Gill was kind enough to send us plenty of pupdates and pictures while we were away. Can’t recommend her highly enough, and will certainly leave Vi with her again if we need to have her looked after. The whole process of working with Ruth and Gill has been excellent from initial contact through the stay. Thank you!
Mary
This was Ziva’s second holiday with Cath and Jim and again it was a great all-round experience. Our dog strode up to Cath’s home and happily settled straight away which made a great start to our holiday. Cath and Jim are exceptional dog carers remembering all our dogs’ individual needs and more. The updates we get let us see how happy Ziva is which makes us relax. A very big thank you to Cath and
Jim.
We recently used PetStay Edinburgh for the first time and can’t recommend them highly enough. We approached Ruth from PetStay at relatively short notice, as a family member could no longer look after our dog while we were away on holiday. Ruth was very efficient in answering emails and helpfully arranged for us to meet a carer, Gill, very quickly. Our dog, Fergus, had a wonderful time staying with Gill for a week and we got regular updates and pictures to reassure us that he was in the very best hands while we were away. The whole process, from initial email enquiry to collecting Fergus at the end of his stay, was very straightforward and meant we were able to entirely relax while we were away. We will definitely be using PetStay again!
Emily
Dougal is just home after a 19 night stay with Cath and Jim. This was the first time he had stayed for more than a few nights, and everything worked really well. We received lots of texts, photos and videos of Dougal, which was very reassuring. We saw him going for walks, relaxing in the garden and playing with Cath and Jim. Dougal looked as if he was having a wonderful time. We felt totally relaxed leaving Dougal in their care and will be booking him in again for next year. In fact, he is already booked in for a few nights later this year. We like him to stay with them a few times a year to help him feel relaxed and happy as soon as he sees them. Dougal loves going to stay with them, and runs into their house as soon as we arrive. We are so happy that you matched us with Cath and Jim. We didn’t worry about Dougal at all when we were away.
Ian
I’ve used PetStay Edinburgh several times now. Ruth provides a fantastic service and I don’t need to worry about leaving Olwyn. Olwyn runs into Ruth’s house when she arrives there and settles immediately, which shows how well she is looked after when she is there. Love getting photo updates while we’re away.
GD
Max had a great time with Ruth. Loads of photos and updates – he settled in very quickly and was so well looked after Would highly recommend and we will be using again. Thank you so much
