About Me

Hello, my name is Ruth, and I am the owner of PetStay Edinburgh, East Lothians & Scottish Borders

When our own dog passed, we felt such an emptiness, but we weren’t quite ready to get a new dog yet, we missed the company but enjoyed our freedom.
I was on an Internet site scrolling when I found PetStay and upon reading I thought if our dog was still with us that’s where I would have liked her to go, further reading led me to see Carers where needed.  After our checks and getting my licence, I became a carer or “Auntie Woofie” with my close customers and loving every minute.

I love earning the trust from each new dog and even learning about different breeds. It gave me a new spring in my step with all my new not only dog friends but their humans as well.  Now I’ve the opportunity not only to remain a carer but as the proud new owner of PetStay Edinburgh, East Lothians & Scottish Borders, I will continue to provide passion and love for dogs with pride.

Why Choose PetStay Edinburgh, East Lothians & Scottish Borders

Whether it’s a long weekend away, business trip or a fortnights holiday, PetStay can provide your four-legged friend with all of the love and attention they would receive at home. The benefits of home boarding are being able to tailor make your dog’s “holiday” with PetStay. This means, we are able to follow the routines you already have in place at your own home, be that sleeping, feeding, exercise or companionship. Our carers will treat your dog as their own and that’s important, to you and to them!

Our Dog Carers

At PetStay we handpicked our Doggie Carers, ensuring we only employ the very best.  All carers are experienced dog owners and most importantly – love dogs!  You can choose to either board your dog(s) alone or if your dog enjoys the company of another dog, with a carer who has a friendly dog of their own.  A “sniffing out” meeting will be set up so you and your dog(s) can meet their carer and see their holiday home beforehand.  Safety is very important to us, so we never mix dogs from different families and all hosts are personally checked by me, licensed by the local authority and fully insured.

PetStay Edinburgh - Ruth

How it Works

I take great care and enjoyment in getting to know you and your dog before they home board with PetStay and take full details of your dog so that I can find the perfect carer for him or her.  I will guide you through the booking process and a “holiday list” will be provided of essential items that will need to be packed to make sure your dog(s) have their favourite things with them.  So, if you would like to book a holiday with us or find out more about our service, please do get in touch on the numbers or email below.  I look forward to speaking with you!

Become a Carer

If you would like to apply to become a carer, I’d love to hear from you.  All that is necessary is that you have experience in looking after dogs, are at home during the day and have a secure garden. You could become part of the PetStay Team by caring for someone else’s family dog in your home with the added bonus of earning an income. It’s such a rewarding hobby that I’m sure you will love!

Our two dogs stayed for the third time with Cath and Jim who are a lovely, friendly couple . They treat them like their own dogs and send regular photos and videos. The dogs are very happy there which means I can relax when on holiday. I would recommend them 100%

March 2023

PetStay have always offered me an excellent, reliable and caring service. My dog is elderly now requiring medication and extra care. He was beautifully looked after recently by Catherine Rogan and her husband who were fully understanding of his needs while giving him extra love and affection too. Cannot recommend this service highly enough.

December 2023

Ruth was incredibly well organised, reassuring, and supportive. She found us the best place for Piper, our mischievous Cairn Terrier, to stay. Piper’s carers loved her so much they didn’t want her to go! She was very well looked after and we got photos every day of a very happy looking dog!

December 2023

I recently entrusted my Dalmatian, Snoopy, to the care of PetStay and was fortunate enough to have Ruth as his sitter. I cannot express how grateful I am for the outstanding service she provided. Ruth’s communication was second to none. She consistently asked thoughtful questions about Snoopy’s needs and preferences, putting us at ease and demonstrating her genuine concern for his well-being.Throughout Snoopy’s stay, Ruth sent regular updates and a plethora of pictures, which allowed us to stay connected with our beloved pet. It was heartwarming to see him happy and content in her care. Most importantly, Ruth provided Snoopy with all the love and attention he needed. Her nurturing approach made him feel right at home, and we couldn’t be happier with the warmth and kindness she extended to him.I wholeheartedly recommend PetStay, especially if you have the privilege of having Ruth as your pet sitter. We look forward to Snoopy’s next visit, and we are confident he’ll be in the best of hands.Thank you, Ruth, for being an exceptional caregiver to our furry family member!

Warm regards

October 2023

Catherine and James seem to love Barney, my springer spaniel, almost as much as I do. Catherine knew that Barney had recently been unwell, so she sent me lots of reassuring messages and pictures while I was away. She also coped with his medicine regime. Barney had a very comfortable and caring environment for his holiday

October 2023

Great experience with Susan. I met her prior to the stay and introduced my Frug Hulk. Whole process was simple and Hulk stayed with her for 10 nights. Great communication throughout! Can’t fault her or PetStay. I will absolutely look to use it in future.

August 2023

So happy we had Ruth looking after our dog. She gave him all the care and love in the world. The house is also really safe and comfortable for an older dog. We had no concerns about leaving our guy here. Thanks again!

August 2023

Bonnie had a terrific holiday with Ann. She was excited when she got out of the car and ran right into their house. Ann was great at keeping in touch, sending lovely photos and updates frequently. It was also easy to book and communication was great from the manager, Ruth. We’ll definitely continue to use PetStay regularly.

August 2023

We had a great experience with PetStay. The process of finding a local family for our dog was easy, and PetStay provided us with lots of information about the chosen family. We met with them a few months prior to our holiday, so our dog could meet them, and when our holiday came around we had all the instructions needed from PetStay on what we needed to bring to the family who were looking after our dog. The family sent us pictures and updates on our dog whine we were away which was lovely, and our dog clearly had a lovely time with a loving family! Will definitely use PetStay again.

August 2023

Our first time with PetStay and can’t fault either the company (Ruth) or our pet boarder (Mhairi). Winnie our 2 year old lab had a great time and the photos showed her right at home. We will certainly use PetStay again.

July 2023

I found my PetStay experience to be excellent from start to finish and I’m sure if Maisey my 3yr old labradoodle could talk she would agree. This was the first time Maisey had been boarded and I was obviously anxious about the process and how she would be cared for but thankfully due to the information and reassurance provided by Ruth I was put at ease. Maisey was lucky enough to be boarded with Catherine and from the photos and texts I received while I was away I quickly realised that Maisey was getting all the attention she needed, she was settled and had made herself quite at home at Catherine’s.  I collected a very happy Maisey at the end of her stay.  I would not hesitate to use PetStay again and I would definitely want Catherine to look after Maisey again.

July 2023

Fabulous Service!  This was the first time we have used PetStay. Our dog Olwyn has epilepsy, with seizures sometimes triggered by stress, and she requires medication several times a day. Ruth at PetStay Edinburgh was brilliant with Olwyn. We met her twice before Olwyn’s stay and were reassured by Ruth’s calm and organised approach. Ruth sent us many photos and videos during Olwyn’s stay, and we didn’t worry at all.

We wouldn’t hesitate to use PetStay again.

June 2023

I met with our dog Beanzy’s carer and knew that he would be well looked after, and I wasn’t wrong. It was clear that Susan and her family loved having Beanz, and made sure to give him lots of attention and cuddles. Susan was so kind in sending me regular pictures and updates that I had no concerns at all. I would feel most confident in using Susan and PetStay’s services again in the future.

June 2023

Lottie, our little Lancashire Heeler, has been having holidays with lovely carers Helen and David for a couple of years. Helen and David are very kind and Lottie seems to have a great time while we’re away and is happy and healthy on our return. It’s good being able to have a chat with the PetStay carers about Lottie before leaving her with them and the forms you fill in about your pet and their usual routine mean the carers have all the info they need for your pet to have a happy stay. We’ve found the whole PetStay experience to be really good and recommend to anyone who is looking for a good alternative to kennels.

May 2023

Picked up Toby last night from Michelle and her family. He is great. Just like he’s never been away and he is clearly happy when we got there. They are a wonderful pet care family 😃

May 2023

Ann and Les were brilliant again along with Ruth. Max became unwell however they took fabulous care of him. Max loves being with them so we can leave him in full confidence that he will be brilliantly cared for.

May 2023

Without Ruth and Tam looking after Barney we/one of us would’ve been unable to go on holiday, no doubt about it. With his separation anxiety he requires someone with him at all times so kennels and other home boarders were a no go. After a couple of bad experiences with other places and lots of tears we found this amazing company and I will be forever grateful that we did. He had an absolute blast in his home from home and I’m quite sure he would’ve stayed longer/forever! We will have absolutely no reservations in using their services again and I couldn’t have wished for him to have had a better time.

We were very happy with Brody’s stay with Mhairi, he clearly was quite happy with all the family making a fuss of him and Mhairi kept us updated daily with photos and details of their activities. I wouldn’t hesitate to use PetStay again, it was reassuring to know Brody was being well cared for during our holiday. Thanks to everyone for making the arrangements which all went smoothly.

Best wishes

Alan and Brody

Rosie and CrackerRosie and Cracker

Rosie and Cracker had a great stay with Cathy and Jim. It was our first time using a dog sitter.  I was very nervous but Cathy sent lots of photos with regular updates which was very reassuring.  I would happily use them again.

March 2023

Nala has stayed with Sheila and Graham on a number of occasions now and has always been extremely well looked after.  I have the utmost confidence in them and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them.

February 2023

Ruth is amazing, so helpful, kind, and it’s clear she completely adores dogs and is very experienced. Bruce was so well looked after, I’m sure he didn’t want to come home!
December 2022

I have been using PetStay for a year now and found the service they provide excellent. PetStay have provided me with a wonderful sitter for my anxious dog Haggis. Catherine and James make him so welcome and I know that he loves to stay with them and I can enjoy my time away without worrying about him. Catherine sends me photos of Haggis making himself at home in their house
December 2022

I have no words to describe how happy I am with PetStay! I had to go away for Christmas and was really hard to find someone to look after my 2 furry babies in such busy time! Loki & Bella stayed with Ruth and Thomas and they were spoiled rotten!! Ruth sent me pictures and videos everyday and she even slept on the couch for 6 nights because Loki was scared to go upstairs. I will definitely keep PetStay for the future and will highly recommend to my friends and neighbours! Thank you so much Ruth & Thomas.
December 2022

I was very happy with the service provided by PetStay and our dog Nelson, couldn’t have been better looked after by your lovely carers. I will most definitely be getting in touch with you again once we organise our next wee break.

October 2022

I wanted to thank both you and Sheila and Graham for the outstanding service and care you have all given to make Darroch’s , and indeed our separation from him , so much easier. We are so very glad to have chosen home boarding with you over using a kennel.

August 2022

Initially we weren’t sure how our dogs would react to living with ‘complete strangers’.  At our introduction meeting with Catherine and James in their lovely home in East Lothian our wee dogs Barney and Lucie, 3 year old brother and sister Chihuahua/Pomeranian crosses, were made to feel very welcome and they took to the house immediately. Catherine and James also took to our dogs immediately and it was obvious from the get go that they would all get on well. Which they did.

So thanks again to Ruth and the team , especially Catherine and James for all their efforts in making the whole process not only smooth but an absolute pleasure which are very much appreciated and we will certainly be contacting PetStay in the future.

Betsy our cockapoo could not have been more happy staying with her PetStay carer, organised for us by Ruth. She has now stayed there several times and is always so excited to see her carer again. We have not worried at all about Betsy when we have been away from her as we know she is being extremely well cared for. Ruth is always so nice to deal with- extremely cheerful, kind and helpful and always really organised. I could not recommend Ruth and PetStay more highly.
July 2022

Our wee dog has had 2 stays with PetStay Edinburgh East & South Lothian, one for 3 weeks and one for a weekend and he loved it! Ruth is fantastic, she’s so experienced with dogs, very loving and caring. She got to know our dog and his funny wee ways so quickly. He loves her and runs out the car when we arrive at her house, he can’t wait to see her! It is so reassuring when we’ve been away on holiday to know that he is happy and being so well cared for. I would highly recommend PetStay.

June 2022

We left our two dogs with Ruth Ferry from PetStay. We were a bit anxious as we re-homed them 5-months ago. We need not have worried, Ruth and her Husband, Tam were amazing. Their love for dogs is palpable. Ruth kept us up to speed a few times a day and the dogs settled no bother. Would highly, highly recommend.
May 2022

I have used PetStay for the last three years, very successfully.
Our wee dog Stella is a very anxious little girl and so staying in someone’s home has been great for her, she really wouldn’t cope with kennels.
I know that a lot of people worry about leaving their dog with strangers but PetStay arrange a visit beforehand and you get to meet the carers, see their home and get answers to all of the questions you may have. They also have a detailed questionnaire about your dogs likes and dislikes, their health, diet etc. which means the carers have a really good base to start from for looking after your dog and they have insurance and vet arrangements.
We have been very lucky with the couple who look after Stella as they really love her like their own and she is so happy to see them whenever we take her to them.
April 2022

We are so happy we found Petstay. Our senior dog is a rescue and has issues with being alone, will eat anything he can, does not particularly trust other dogs nor children and is allergic to several food types. We felt finding an appropriate carer will be challenging but within a day Alice had two options ready for us. Scott and Iain live near us so our dog could stay in a familiar environment. They followed all our instructions and arranged a great week for Freddie. He was clearly happy, healthy and secure the whole week with lots of walks, cuddles and playtime. I was completely at peace the whole time I was away- and I must admit I am an awfully worried person when it comes to our dog! They are true animal lovers and wonderful people who provided a lovely experience for our boy.

February 2020

Alice was great in helping us find alternative home boarding arrangements for our Weimy, Our dog as most are i’m sure is quite needy, and we wanted to make sure he would be happy for his holidays. Alice gave us a number of options of suitable stays for Rupert with an upcoming trip we had planned. The meeting process with a prospective carer was all arranged easily, and the confidence in details taken & expectations of care provided were all just as we wanted for Rupert. Rupert has since holiday’d at the same place a couple of times now & has been more than superbly looked after and taken care of a part of the family! We always come back to a happy, well loved & looked after, content Dog!! Thanks to Alice, and her great PetStay families, we can go away with confidence.

February 2020

Really loved our PetStay experience. Alice did a great job of matching us up with Kirsteen who did a fab job looking after our lab Nala. We had been nervous to leave her for the first time but Kirsteen kept us up to date with lots of photos and updates! Nala seemed to have a ball! Would definitely use PetStay again!

January 2020

Pickles & Chutney

We have used PetStay twice now for our two Border Terriers, Pickle & Chutney. We were grateful to PetStay for finding us a carer at quite short notice. We knew when we met Janet for a pre-stay visit that our precious pets would be well cared for. She clearly loves animals and quickly developed a rapport with our two girls. On our return after three weeks, it was lovely to see Pickle and Chutney looking happy and healthy, and not at all in a hurry to leave Janet’s side! We would fully recommend PetStay.

December 2019

My “boy” Jasper has special requirements, he is deaf, blind and diabetic, I was very nervous going away leaving him with a carer. My mind was put at ease after meeting our carer before we went away to discuss what Jasper required, we should not have worried As expected he was superbly looked after, all his needs catered for including administering insulin injections twice daily. He came back in great spirit and was looking good. We will be back again looking for help with holidays not too far away.

December 2019

Benson & Brodie

After an initial hicup, which Alice from the Edinburgh branch quickly sorted out for us, our boys (and they are big Briard boys) were well looked after by Sheila and Graham. They were happy and active when we went to pick them up. They had even been brushed, not an easy job. I would recommend the Edinburgh branch of PetStay.

December 2019

Marley & Murphy

I would highly recommend PetStay Edinburgh. I was anxious about my 2 labradoodle boys going to stay with somebody outside our family. Alice found a lovely family who looked after my boys really well. It was definitely a home from home for them. They looked happy as Steph sent me photos and messages every day and so put my mind at ease. They have had 2 holidays with them and will definitely use PetStay again for our next holiday. Steph and Scott are really lovely and they have 2 lovely wee girls and my boys got on really well with the whole family.

Can’t thank them enough.

December 2019

Jake & Poppy

We used PetStay for the first time as we have just moved to Scotland. I must say Alice was very efficient in finding us a pet sitter offering us 3 all within a few miles. We chose Magda and Dominic who were very good and the dogs gave there blessing to such and extent we had to prise them away from their temporary home. We definitely use them again. Thank you

December 2019

‘We will be using PetStay again. Very good communication (Alice King) with us right from the start which made the whole process in finding the perfect holiday home for our beautiful Cocker Spaniel reassuring. We had never left her before to go on holiday (usually with friends) but Peter and Norma were very loving right from the start. They even sent pictures of our dog having so much fun. Thank you’

December 2019

Our lively Jack Russell, Fudge, stayed with Michelle and Family and with Alice for a prolonged stay in Autumn 2019. We were a little concerned about leaving her for several weeks but we had no need to worry. Fudge obviously had a great time, Alice sent us several photos of her asleep and happy on laps of several family members! We would have no hesitation about doing the same again. We met Alice and Michelle ahead of the stay, and we had a trial night which I would recommend to other customers as it gave us some peace of mind. Thank you both

December 2019

Buddy & Gracie

“Alice looked after Buddy and Gracie really well. We felt comfortable leaving them as she had invited us round and I could see that the dogs would be safe. It meant that we didn’t feel anxious leaving them. The dogs had a ball! That’s a huge relief for us. 😁.”

October 2019

“Cannot recommend PetStay enough. Only echoing what’s already been said but the family we were matched with (Scott, Steph and girls) took Rosie in as her own and we could tell from the daily updates that she was having a great time. Will absolutely use again!”

September 2019

Teddy & Frankie

“We used PetStay for the first time this summer for our two Cockerpoo’s Frankie and Teddy. Alice at PetStay was great at organising a suitable carer for the boys giving us several options. The boys stayed with Magda who was just lovely. I met with Magda before their stay to discuss their routines etc and felt very happy to leave the boys with her. I got the feeling she really enjoyed having the boys and we would definitely use PetStay again.”

September 2019

“We were going to New York at Christmas and as much we were looking forward to our holiday I was anxious about trusting someone to look after our French Bulldog Bow, she was 8 months old at the time and a bit of a handful.
Putting Bow in a kennel wasn’t an option I considered. I looked at various options online and came across PetStay. I got in touch with Alice and she arranged for us to meet a family who could look after Bow. We took Bow to meet Scott, Steph and their girls at their home. From the initial meeting I knew that Bow would be in safe hands in a lovely family home with decent people. Steph was fantastic keeping in touch with me daily and sending photo’s so I knew my girl was okay and settled. Bow went back in August for over 2 weeks and loves all the attention and fun she has playing with the children. So much so she genuinely doesn’t want to come home and actually gets grumpy about it! I would highly recommend this service and I’m happy that Alice put us in touch with this lovely family as we 100% knew Bow was well looked after which meant we could relax and enjoy our holiday. I believe she was treated like part of the family the time she was there.
Big Thanks Scott, Steph, The Girls and Alice. x”

“This was my 1st time leaving my little Maltese Nico while i went on holiday. Kennels wasn’t an option for me as i knew Nico wouldn’t cope as he’s used to having someone with him most of the day, so home boarding seemed like the perfect solution.

I was anxious and dreading leaving Nico for the 1st time while i was away, but i had no need to worry. The family PetStay found to look after Nico were lovely “Michelle & Craig” took great care of him. I was sent lots of updates including photos and videos, my mind was put at ease with the updates and i was able to enjoy my holiday knowing Nico was OK and being well looked after.

Also want to add that Alice from PetStay was great at finding me a family that was perfect for Nicos needs, Alice was always very responsive to my messages and e-mails and answered all my questions (which were a lot lol)

Thank you Alice, I would highly recommend PetStay and i’ve already used them again and will again in future x”

September 2019

“Sasha is extremely well looked after by her holiday parents Peter and Norma enjoying walks to new places. Sasha is on medication and Norma is only too happy to take care of this giving me peace of mind. When I drop her off she just trots in and makes herself at home.”

September 2019

“We had never left our puppy with anybody and were nervous but Kirsteen treated Keira like she was her own and kept us updated on how she was getting on and sent photos of her too. Keira had a fantastic time staying with Kirsteen and we’ve been back to visit too….a first class service!”

September 2019

“We were delighted with the service. It was all very professionally carried out. Janet was great with our dog Molly and when we took Molly back to Janet for a second time she bounded into Janet’s house glad to be back again for another holiday.”

September 2019

“Barron has told me that he absolutely loved staying with Erica and her family last weekend! Even though there were cats there, he got all the attention and cuddles he could possibly want! Even if he was cheeky and snuck up onto the sofa! Thanks Erica! And thanks Kaia for the lovely poem about Barron xx.”

August 2019

“We are so pleased to have found PetStay. Ruby stayed with Alice while we were on holiday. We received regular updates and photos on what Ruby was up to. Alice was fantastic and knew exactly how to look after our slightly boisterous Labrador. PetStay is great value for money and its ideal knowing that we have left Ruby in such great hands, where she is looked after so lovingly. We will be using PetStay going forward and would thoroughly recommend Alice.”

July 2019

“Such a good experience! We were so nervous about leaving our boy for the first time and very relieved to find PetStay, where people look after your dog as the only dog in the home and treat him like their own. This was certainly true for Solo who had a wonderful time with the very kind and loving Helen and David. He was clearly very happy and safe and they did everything to make his routine as familiar as possible. We had a very reassuring email update from Alice and the welcome back from our settled, happy dog was just lovely.”

July 2019

“My dog had a blast with Alice. Home from home and was really taken care of. I received regular updates and photos and could see how happy she was. Never used kennels and aged 6 didn’t think she would have adjusted to it. Alice was extremely accommodating with our flight time which took the pressure off.”

July 2019

“Alice from PetStay Edinburgh, East and South Lothian was great with helping me find someone to look after my cockapoo snickers. The carers we met through her were absolutely lovely and cared for snickers as if he was their own. And even when I needed someone last minute and our usual carers were unavailable, Alice tried to help out as quickly as she could. Will definitely be using PetStay again!.”

“Alice looked after our 3 dogs for a weekend and we couldn’t be happier with the service. From the beginning Alice was super helpful and was very thorough with getting all the information she needed about our girls which really put our minds at rest. She kept us updated throughout the weekend and the when we went to collect them they didn’t want to leave which tells us how fantastically they were looked after! We are really grateful to Alice for looking after our girls so what well and would definitely use her again.”

“We are so pleased with the help Alice at Petstay provided in arranging excellent home stay care for our Manchester Terrier. From the outset communication was prompt, professional and caring and Alice found us the perfect base for our dog, who loved her stay. We were sent updates and felt comfortable throughout that she was being cared for in a comfortable home environment. We will definitely be seeking Alice’s help again in the future.”

“Very friendly and professional service. The boarder kept in regular contact with myself and sent photos of the pups whilst we were away. Would definitely recommend and will use this service again 👍🏼 🐶”

“ I have used PeStay twice this year. Alfie was placed at my request with Helen & David both times. They are a lovely couple who were great with Alfie. This was the first time we had left Alfie and I would have no hesitation in using them again. Alfie had a great time .
Highly recommend petstay. 5 stars from Alfie.”

“Following a recommendation from another customer, we decided to let our 2 year old lab, Mac, board with PetStay while we were away for a week. We took Mac to Alice and Sophie’s for an initial meeting a few weeks in advance and he got on fine with them and the house, which was very reassuring. During the actual stay, he seems to have had a great time (especially at Portobello beach) and has returned happy and healthy. We especially appreciated the occasional ‘Pupdates’ email and photos we received while we were away.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Petstay to other owners as it’s obviously run by dog lovers who care for and spend time with the dogs in their care.”

“Alice looked after our dog, Iris, herself and did an amazing job. She sent us pictures and updates while we were away and we came home to a very happy dog. I would highly recommend PetStay as a friendlier and happier alternative to kennels.”

April 2018

“Just wanted to send a wee note to thank you for arranging Luna’s stay with Stewart and Sandra. She was very well looked after and I was able to relax on hols because I wasn’t worrying about her!
We had a disaster coming home because our flight was cancelled and we didn’t get back until after midnight but Stewart and Sandra were kind enough to keep Luna until the morning. We were very grateful.
Thanks again and I’ll be in touch when I need another home stay for Luna.”

“Prior to using PetStay I worried about booking holidays now I do not. Alice has found the most special people who look after our dogs even better than we do! “It’s amazing.”

“PetStay were absolutely wonderful and Alice could not have been more helpful or understanding. She placed Tess with the perfect hosts. Bob and Irene formed an instant bond with Tess and we were able to go on holiday with confidence that she would be well cared for and happy. It was very reassuring for us and Tess to meet Bob and Irene before we left her with them. When we picked her up, it was very clear that she’d had a wonderful time and during our holiday they were in touch to reassure us that she’d settled well.”

“Thank you so much for finding such a lovely family for Bella to stay with. Sandra and Stewart welcomed her into their home, looked after her health needs, walked and played with her. Such a relief to know that she was having a good time whilst we were away. Very efficient service from Alice as well.”

Roxy & Ruby

Me and my family went to Florida for 2 weeks, and to start with we were a bit concerned on where to put our pugs (Roxy and Ruby) but after researching I looked into PetStay, I decided to put my pugs there and it was honestly the best thing ever for them as they got their own wee holiday. We got constant updates by videos and picture. Alice couldn’t have made it any better for the pugs either and I would highly recommend for anyone who is unsure my pugs were not the happiest to come home! I think they enjoyed it there that much that they didn’t want to come home. I cannot thank Alice enough for watching them and I appreciate everything that she done for them.

‘PetStay matched our Dalmatian Zeus with an ideal host family. He had a great time staying with Ruth and Alistair, got lots of exercise and attention and settled well. We are really pleased and have already booked him in for another stay.’

June 2017

We would certainly recommend Petstay as a reassuring alternative to using kennels . Our dog Archie had a fabulous stay with Ruth and Alastair . He really became part of the family when he stayed with them for a week’s holiday and had a wonderful time with lots of walks and their undivided attention of course!! It was very reassuring to have visited the couple in their home with Archie so he could meet them beforehand and vice versa.

We also found Alice very professional but equally friendly and approachable in organising everything for us!

Carers Walking Dog

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a PetStay Carer

What are the requirements of becoming a carer?

You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs and you need to be home during the day so you have plenty of time to give to the dogs you are caring for. You must have a secure garden and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have a dog of your own as long as your dog gets on with other dogs.

How are your carers vetted?

If you meet all the requirements listed above, we will come and visit you at your home. We will check the security of the garden, explain PetStay procedures and show you the guidelines each carer needs to follow. If you are happy with everything and we feel you would make a suitable PetStay carer, we would follow up a reference and arrange public liability insurance for you.

How many dogs can I look after?

Our service is on a one-to-one basis, so only dogs from the same household will stay with you. You are allowed to take up to three dogs from the same household, BUT you choose what you are happy with. We will ask you how many dogs you would like to look after and what sized dog/s you would be happy to care for.

Do I have to provide the food?

No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Any toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.

Does the dog/s have to be vaccinated?

Yes each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, have been wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of the vaccinations will be brought to the meeting and shown to you.

What about walking the dogs?

All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. When you have your meeting with the owners all routines, including the number and length of walks, will be discussed. The dog is only ever walked on a lead.

What if the dog becomes ill?

We/you would endeavour to contact the owner or the emergency contact. The owner or the emergency contact would be liable for any expenses incurred in taking the dog to the vet.

Will I be paid?

You will receive a daily allowance starting from £17.00 per day.

What happens next?

If you are interested in becoming a carer, please ring us for an informal chat and ask any questions or email us with your details and we will come back to you. You can also use the contact form on the ‘contact us’ tab. If we feel you are suitable we would then arrange to visit you at home.

A Pet’s Holiday: Why Dog Home Boarding is the Best Choice for Your Pet

Are you planning a getaway, but worried about who will take care of your furry friend while you’re gone? Home from home dog boarding can be a great way to pamper your pet with extra attention and special care while you enjoy your holiday. Our blog will explore some of the benefits and give you an inside look into our local dog and puppy sitting services.

What’s the Day-to-Day Like for Dog Boarding in East Lothian and Midlothian?

Mojo at PetStay

My name is Mojo, and I’m a nine-year-old Springer Spaniel. I’m a frequent dog guest at PetStay and am looking forward to visiting my carer, Alice, this summer for another two weeks of playing, outdoor walks and, of course, plenty of cuddles.

She’s pretty good at sticking to my basic routine, which as an aging gentleman I really appreciate. Each morning, we start our day with my breakfast, a healthy bowl of kibble, before going outside for a piddle.

We then head to the local park for a walk and a chance to play with my special ring. Sometimes we even head to the beach. I love when Alice takes me for long walks around Edinburgh and East Lothian as I get to smell new smells and explore new places.

At the end of the day, I get a final walk before going to bed. I get two biscuits (lucky boy) once I’m in bed  — a perfect end to a perfect day.

I know you’ll love your holiday dog sitter as much as I love Alice.

Warm regards,

Local Walks Used by Our Dog Sitters in East and Midlothian

Our Mid and East Lothian dog sitters know some of the best walks in the local area. Here are our three favourites:

● John Muir Way (East Lothian). The John Muir Way stretches across East Lothian, and our dog sitters often choose to do certain sections. One of our favourites is the first 2.5km that goes along Aberlady Bay.
● Lammermuir Hills (East Lothian). Getting outside and exploring Scotland’s stunning nature is certainly one of the benefits of being an East Lothian dog sitter. We especially like the gorgeous Lammermuir Hills, and our special furry guests seem to enjoy them too!
● Pentland Hills (Midlothian). The Pentland Hills have a range of fantastic walking routes from short hourly ones to longer 10km walks. Some of our more active Midlothian dog sitters spend all day here, enjoying the fresh air and exercising guests’ four legs.

Dog Home Boarding: An Alternative to Dog Kennels

Rather than sending your furry family members to a kennel, our dog boarding services in East Lothian, Midlothian and Edinburgh offer a much more attractive option. Staying with one of our dedicated and experienced carers will allow your furry family member a home-away-from-home. Somewhere they can relax and experience the full benefits of having their own devoted dog sitter.

Some of the benefits of overnight dog sitting includes:

● Dogs are matched perfectly with sitters that can meet their needs and keep their routines
● Most holiday dog sitters work from home or are retired, so dogs are rarely left alone
● Each of our dedicated sitters has a real passion for dogs so will give your pup the attention they deserve
● Every home has a private garden so your pet will have loads of room to run around
● Your dog will be the only client dog in the house so holiday pet sitters can focus on them 100%
● You’ll meet your dog sitter before your holiday so you’ll have the ultimate say over whether it’s a good match.
