PetStay Staffordshire Branch

Hello and welcome to PetStay Staffordshire, offering home dog boarding services in the Staffordshire Moorlands, Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle and Stafford areas. I’m Jane Prince and I live in the Staffordshire Moorlands with my fur-babies Freddie and Barney, and hubby Paul.

We live on a farm with lots of space for the dogs to run around in and we would hate to leave them in a kennel environment while we went on holiday – they are part of our family and need love, cuddles and attention from caring people who are experienced dog-lovers and would give them a wonderful holiday home.

That is exactly what our specially vetted, licenced and insured Carers offer – a loving holiday home for your dog/s. You will be able to meet the Carer I recommend for you before you book. When it’s time for your holiday, you take everything your dog/s need to their Carer and, while you are relaxing on your sunbed, they will be relaxing on their own beds surrounded by familiar things.

Give me a call today to discuss your dog/s holiday needs – I’m looking forward to helping them find their perfect holiday home.

Jane - PetStay Staffordshire

If you are interested in becoming a Carer and are at home during the day, have a very secure garden and love dogs, please get in touch for an informal chat.

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a PetStay Carer

What are the requirements of becoming a carer?

You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs and you need to be home during the day so you have plenty of time to give to the dogs you are caring for. You must have a secure garden and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have a dog of your own as long as your dog gets on with other dogs.

How are your carers vetted?

If you meet all the requirements listed above, we will come and visit you at your home. We will check the security of the garden, explain PetStay procedures and show you the guidelines each carer needs to follow. If you are happy with everything and we feel you would make a suitable PetStay carer, we would follow up a reference and arrange public liability insurance for you.

How many dogs can I look after?

Our service is on a one-to-one basis, so only dogs from the same household will stay with you. You are allowed to take up to three dogs from the same household, BUT you choose what you are happy with. We will ask you how many dogs you would like to look after and what sized dog/s you would be happy to care for.

Do I have to provide the food?

No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Any toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.

Does the dog/s have to be vaccinated?

Yes each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, have been wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of the vaccinations will be brought to the meeting and shown to you.

What about walking the dogs?

All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. When you have your meeting with the owners all routines, including the number and length of walks, will be discussed. The dog is only ever walked on a lead.

What if the dog becomes ill?

We/you would endeavour to contact the owner or the emergency contact. The owner or the emergency contact would be liable for any expenses incurred in taking the dog to the vet.

Will I be paid?

You will receive a daily allowance starting from £12 per day.

What happens next?

If you are interested in becoming a carer, please ring us for an informal chat and ask any questions or email us with your details and we will come back to you. You can also use the contact form on the ‘contact us’ tab. If we feel you are suitable we would then arrange to visit you at home.

Our Reviews

“Sue and her family looked after my 40kg dog Archie in January. I couldn’t have been more happy, they sent me photos and kept me up to date with how he was doing. He looked so content and super healthy, and happy when I collected him. The whole process of booking Archie’s stay through Jane at PetStay was easy and professional which helped put me at ease leaving him with someone new. I would recommend Sue and PetStay to anyone and will certainly be using them again! Thank you so much!”

January 2018

My normal dog sitter had to cancel a long standing booking due to a personal problem and she recommended PetStay to help out. At very short notice we contacted PetStay and they introduced us to an exceptional carer within a day. A visit was arranged and the booking was confirmed. Archie our Cavapoo came back from this visit tired but contented and we could see straight away he’d been spoiled rotten and given loads of love. Can’t praise this service enough. There will be a lot more business going their way from us.

“I’ve just picked the babies up from Mary & Ken and just wanted to say a big thank you. The dogs were so relaxed and happy when I got there, they’d obviously had a fantastic time. I wasn’t at all upset that they weren’t overwhelmingly pleased to see me, a sign to me that they were happy! Mary and Ken are lovely and their attention to detail in making sure everything is just right is excellent. I think the dogs will miss them and all the attention they got!”

“I just wanted to thank you for recommending Marilyn to us for looking after Louis. We have just picked him up this afternoon from her and she has been great with him. As you know, it was a big step for us to leave him with a stranger, but we feel reassured that he has been well looked after and loved.”

February 2017

“We happened upon PetStay via an internet search. The testimonials given were reassuring, as was our initial meeting with Marilyn. Upon collecting Bonnie after her stay, it was very clear that she had been well looked after and cared for – fully justifying our decision to place her into Marilyn’s care.”

“We had a lovely holiday and it was made easier because we knew Daisy was well cared for. Pauline made her feel welcome from our first visit. I never worried about her while we were away – I felt so at ease with Pauline and she obviously loves dogs. I would have no hesitation asking Pauline to look after Daisy when we go away in future, so thank you for introducing us to this lovely lady.”

“I can’t thank Jane & Sarah enough for helping me out. Initially, I thought I was going to have to cancel my holiday, as I had been let down at the 11th hour. To go on to meet Sarah, who put my mind at ease immediately, soon put any such thoughts out of my mind. Sarah even texted me two photos of my dogs [Penny & Jack] which gave me peace of mind. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Jane, Sarah or PetStay. Thank you very much.”

“Thank you to Jane from PetStay for finding us such a lovely couple, Lynne & Ray, to look after our two labradors Maisie & Poppy. They both enjoyed their stay while we were away. We would recommend PetStay to anyone who is looking for home-from-home dog boarding, and are already looking to book for 2017.”

Ruby had a super time. She was pleased to see us, but is very content. We could not believe how much she had grown in two weeks. It was lovely of Judy to save Ruby’s baby teeth for us. We had a lovely holiday and it was great to know that our pup was well cared for. We will definitely use PetStay again.

“Thanks to PetStay for taking care of Harvey during our weekend break. We were very impressed with the whole service. It was very reassuring to meet Judy (the carer) in advance to discuss Harvey’s routine. Thanks to Judy we knew Harvey would be very well cared for while we were away. We will definitely be using PetStay again”.

“From the initial meeting with Pat, she bonded well with Olly. We could tell she loved dogs and her experience gave us confidence our beloved pet was in safe hands. We got regular updates while we were away – she even managed to tire him out one day which is a feat in itself!! He had a brilliant time and I would not hesitate to leave Olly with Pat again. Thank you to Pet Stay for finding another wonderful carer and to Pat and Steve for the love and care they showed to Olly.”

“Excellent service from beginning to end. Communication from Jane and Marilyn was excellent, set up was easy, facilities at Marilyn’s were first class, secure, friendly environment. We were even sent photos whilst we were away to show China was happy and settled. Highly recommended.”

July 2016

From the moment we met Carol we could tell she genuinely cared about Olly’s welfare which really helped put us at ease when it came to leaving him. The initial meeting was well planned and we followed the guidelines given so things ran smoothly.

Communication from Jane and Carol was excellent and any questions, worries or concerns were answered quickly and to our satisfaction.

Olly had a great time with Carol – he was lovingly cared for and the interaction with another dog [Emily] has already had positive benefits for his routine. We had updates about how he had settled the first day which helped us not to be worrying while we were away. Carol really treated him like her own – we look forward to using the services of Carol and Emily again soon and would definitely recommend PetStay to everyone!

“I was nervous about leaving Jasper for the first time but from the initial meeting with Jaspers carer, Carol, I knew I had nothing to worry about. She made me feel at ease and obviously had the dogs’ comfort and safety as utmost priority. We kept in regular contact throughout Jasper’s stay and she sent pictures to show me how he had settled in. Thank you to PetStay & Carol for making Jasper’s first holiday such a pleasant experience. I’ll be recommending you to family & friends.”

PetStay ticks all the boxes in providing an ideal solution to the problem of having a happy pet whilst you are away on holiday.
Kennels can be a daunting experience for your dog and you don’t like to put on family and friends by leaving them with a demanding guest for a week or two.
Luckily I heard about PetStay and contacted them. Turned out I knew Jane who runs the Staffordshire branch and knew she was in business for her love of animals.
Jane paired us up with Marilyn – another lovely lady who has devoted a large part of her life to caring for rescue dogs.
I felt assured that Poppy, our Border/Bichon cross would be happy in Marilyn’s home and she was!
I would recommend PetStay to anyone who is looking peace of mind and a happy pet whilst they holiday.

Harry & Pablo

Our dogs had never been in kennels and we were very nervous about leaving them. Our first meeting with Lynne and Ray quickly showed us that we had nothing to fear and our two dogs took to them immediately, much to our amazement. We were very confident that they would be well looked after and this was definitely the case – when we returned they were pleased to see us but would have happily stayed there!

The updates and photos while we were away were very reassuring and it was great to see the dogs looking so happy and doing all the same things that they do at home.

It is really good to know that we have people we can trust to look after our very precious pets enabling us to go away secure in the knowledge they are safe and happy

‘We were nervous of leaving our young dog with anyone when we went on holiday and were unable to take him with us. There was no need to worry – Judy was amazing – engaged really quickly with Bertie and he was happy and comfortable with her. We are planning to use PetStay again in the Autumn and we are sure Bert will look forward to it too!’

Chester & Vito

We have struggled to find a holiday home for our 2 dogs for 3 years. This is due to one of them being a very large breed and he doesn’t get on with other dogs meaning they have to have one to one care.

I phoned Petstay on a Monday and by Wednesday the same week we was on our way to Lynne and Ray’s house for a meeting, also taking our boys. They had gone above and beyond to make their house safe and secure for their new guests. Vito and Chester had a sniff around, lots of kisses and cuddles and we knew then our babies were going to be in safe hands, so we booked them in for the following week.

Lynne & Ray couldn’t ask enough questions to make sure they had all the information they needed and they wrote everything down. They were also able to give Chester his medication. On our return, our dogs looked happy, healthy and very well looked after. Now we’ve got them home I actually think they’re sad as they miss Lynne and Ray.

Thank you Lynne and Ray for an impeccable service and thank you PetStay for introducing us to such kind, caring and loving carers for our babies. Thank you also for making the whole service quick and easy.

P. S we have already booked them in again for in two weeks time for 7 nights :).

My dogs have had a great time with Judy this week. I was really apprehensive about leaving my dogs with a stranger but they have been fine. I can tell they have been very well looked after and welcomed into Judy’s Home. I would recommend this service.

Meet Our Carers

We have a rapidly growing team of carers across the Staffordshire area waiting to give your beloved 4 legged friends a ‘home from home’ alternative to kennels whilst you are away; however we still need more people to join our team. If you are at home during the day; have a secure garden; experienced dog owner and a genuine dog lover then please complete the carer enquiry form on the ‘contact us’ page or call Jane on 01538 300225 for an informal chat.

Here you can meet a few of our amazing carers (there are many more) and see what they have to say about their experiences:

(Pictured with guest dog Roxy)

Pauline finished work in 2015 to take care of her poorly Dad. Sadly, he passed away a year later and she then needed something to fill her days, while hubby Ian is at work. Having seen an advert for PetStay carers she wasted no time in contacting us. Pauline has owned a variety of dogs for over forty years. She enjoys caring for them and going for walks – her favourite place is Westport Lake and she always takes lots of photos of her doggy guests and sends them to the owners.

Lynne & Ray

(Pictured with guest dogs Vito & Chester)

Lynne and Ray are both retired nurses. In January 2016 they lost their beloved white GSD Zeus to illness, and soon found they missed looking after, exercising and caring for a dog. Lynne had read about PetStay Staffordshire and realised this was a perfect way to assist others to enjoy a holiday, in the knowledge that their dog(s) would be having a great time as well. They both love the time with their guests and are grateful for the trust their owners place in them to provide a home from home for their dog(s).

Lynne and Ray say “We get the best of both worlds – providing a loving, caring environment for our holiday guests and getting lots of love and kisses back from them. Also, the exercise helps!”

Jane’s collared dog boarding franchise

Animal lover Jane Prince is offering a ‘holiday home’ for pets with the launch of a new dog boarding business.
The 47 year old bought the PetStay Staffordshire franchise in 2015 after becoming bored with her former admin job.
The new venture – which was officially launched in December – will see dogs offered an alternative place to stay while their owners go on holiday.
Jane, of Onecote, said “I was bored with my job and I wanted a change. I was looking on franchise websites to see what I could do and when I came across PetStay I knew it was for me.”
PetStay Staffordshire offers home dog boarding services across the whole of the ST postcode – from Biddulph to Penkridge and everywhere in between.
Carers will feed, bathe and walk the dogs from the safe environment of their own homes while their owners are on holiday or working away.
Jane, who has 20 years’ experience looking after dogs including her two Golden Retrievers Barney and Freddie, added “I don’t know of a lot of other dog-sitting businesses around Staffordshire and I am sure this will be a very popular alternative for owners who are sometimes reluctant to put their pets in kennels.”
“My role is to place Carers with the dogs to ensure they match each other’s personalities. I will be there to offer support and advice to people who need it and I will help carry out assessments to make sure their homes are safe.”
Now Jane is looking to recruit self-employed Carers to help kick-start her new career. They can earn between £80 and £192 a week, but must be at home during the day, have a secure garden and be willing to care for a dog in their own home.
Jane said: “The Carers will be there to look after the dogs around the clock. Their homes will be checked and assessed to make sure they are safe and secure and all of the Carers will be licenced and experienced.
“Carers are allowed to have their own pets but we have a rule that we cannot place a dog in a home where there is a child under the age of seven.
“This is the ideal opportunity for people who are retired, housewives or single parents who want to earn a little bit of extra cash.”
PetStay Managing Director, Carole Davy, launched the business 11 years ago after struggling to find accommodation for her own dogs. She said “PetStay was established in 2005 when I didn’t want to place my two dogs in kennels, they were nervous dogs and it would have been too stressful for them.
“But I found that there wasn’t an alternative and hence PetStay was born.
“One of the most important things to our business is our dog Carers, without them we wouldn’t be able to offer our unique service. We do have a high criteria that we look for in our Carers but one thing they all have in common is they just love dogs.”
Anyone interested in becoming a dog Carer or who needs a holiday home for their pet, should ring Jane on 01538 300225 or 07816 865410. Alternatively, email janeprince@petstay.net
