PetStay Wakefield & Castleford Branch

Hi, my name is Cathy and live in West Yorkshire with my best friend Toots, a standard schnauzer with a big personality. I am now the proud owner of the Wakefield branch after having used Petstay for years as a home from home alternative to kennels. I found PetStay after Toots made it very clear to me that kennels were not her favourite thing and that a more suitable arrangement would have to be found. She has been happy with all her carers, and I would never put her in a kennel again. Home from home boarding is the preferred alternative to kennels and PetStay offers a loving and caring environment for your pet while you are away.

Why Choose PetStay Wakefield & Castleford

PetStay Wakefield covers the whole of the WF post codes and offers a “home from home” environment for your loved pet while you are away on holiday. We will stick to the routines that you already have in place for your pet, shower them with love and attention, and on your return will hand back a happy and relaxed dog.

My Host Families

All our host families love dogs. They are experienced dog owners who will provide the very best care for your pet while you are away. Each host carer is personally interviewed by me and Toots, then they go through a separate licensing interview by Wakefield Council to make sure that they are happy with the environment your pet will stay in. The host families are also covered by our public liability insurance. Some of the carers may have a dog of their own, and if you have a pooch that is happy to be placed with another dog we will arrange a meet up for a bit of a sniff.

How it Works

When you get in touch I will ask you lots of questions about your dog to make sure that I will be able to match them up with the most suitable carer. We ask that all new clients along with their dogs have a meet and greet with the carer so that everyone is happy. That way we know everyone’s going to get along with each other. Then you can go away, whether business, holiday, or quick get-away, confident that your pooch will have a holiday of their own.

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a PetStay Carer

What are the requirements of becoming a carer?

You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs and you need to be home during the day so you have plenty of time to give to the dogs you are caring for. You must have a secure garden and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have a dog of your own as long as your dog gets on with other dogs.

How are your carers vetted?

If you meet all the requirements listed above, we will come and visit you at your home. We will check the security of the garden, explain PetStay procedures and show you the guidelines each carer needs to follow. If you are happy with everything and we feel you would make a suitable PetStay carer, we would follow up a reference and arrange public liability insurance for you.

Do I need to be licensed?

If you are successful then you would apply to the council for a home boarding licence (if required by the local council), we can help you with this, it is a straight forward process.

How many dogs can I look after?

Our service is on a one-to-one basis, so only dogs from the same household will stay with you. You are allowed to take up to three dogs from the same household, BUT you choose what you are happy with. We will ask you how many dogs you would like to look after and what sized dog/s you would be happy to care for.

Do I have to provide the food?

No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Any toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.

Does the dog/s have to be vaccinated?

Yes each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, have been wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of the vaccinations will be brought to the meeting and shown to you.

What about walking the dogs?

All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. When you have your meeting with the owners all routines, including the number and length of walks, will be discussed. The dog is only ever walked on a lead.

What if the dog becomes ill?

We/you would endeavour to contact the owner or the emergency contact. The owner or the emergency contact would be liable for any expenses incurred in taking the dog to the vet.

How am I paid?

Your fee is paid as the dog is dropped off. This is a self-employed home-based position, is very flexible and fits around your lifestyle.

What happens next?

If you are interested in becoming a carer, please ring us for an informal chat and ask any questions or email us with your details and we will come back to you. You can also use the contact form on the ‘contact us’ tab. If we feel you are suitable we would then arrange to visit you at home.

Our Reviews

Barney

I used PetStay for the first time in April and was a little apprehensive at first but I needn’t have worried.
We met our carer for Barney our Labrador first and got to know him a little and he met Barney. We warmed to him straight away.
The whole process from enquiring to boarding was very professional as they found out everything they could about our dogs needs.
Barney settled well and enjoyed his stay.
I can highly recommend PetStay for anyone who wishes to go away feeling settled in the knowledge their pet will be well looked after.
We booked again on our return for September.

We had concerns never using the service before but from start to finish very happy with all involved with the service provided.

Wakefield-Rufus&Miliie

Rufus & Millie

Rufus and Millie had a great time. They were obviously very well looked after. It was home from home for them. Rufus remembered where the treats were! We had no worries leaving them or when we were away. We will definitely be taking them there again for their holidays.

Wakefield-Ruby

Ruby

Ruby is often anxious, but from the first visit, she quickly calmed in the company of Jane and her lovely two dogs, Muffin and Reggie. It is the first time when staying away from home that she has been calm enough to eat on the first day of her visit, testament to the love and care that she received during her stay which helped her to feel comfortable and secure. As an added and unexpected bonus, Jane even kept her well brushed and looking beautiful. There was no frantic ‘hello’ when I came to collect her, just a very happy wagging tail. I cannot praise Jane enough for the care with which she planned for Ruby’s first stay, and the efforts she make her stay a very happy one. I know that Ruby has never been happier away from home and of course I can now have worry free arrangements for the future. Thank you Jane, Muffin and Reggie!

Wakefield-Rufus&Millie

Rufus & Millie

“We left Rufus and Millie for the first time. Diane and her daughter were fantastic right from the start. They treated our dogs like their own and they settled in immediately. They obviously love dogs as much as we do. They took lots of photos to show us when we picked the dogs up. We would recommend them highly and we will definitely be booking again. Thank you very much.”

Wakefield-Patch

Patch

We used Pet Stay for the first time last week and left our precious Jack Russell “Patch” in the very capable hands of Jane. We felt totally at ease and knew straight away that Patch would be well looked after and treated the same as at home. Jane was very friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We would highly recommend Pet Stay and also Jane for the Wakefield area.

Louise – June 2016

Wakefield-Jake

Jake

Jake had a lovely time staying with Pauline while we were away. She took the time to find out about his routine and made him feel very welcome and at home. It was good to know he was with someone who was taking such good care of him and I would recommend her excellent service as it’s clear she loves dogs.

Judith – May 2016

Wakefield-Gemma&Daisy

Gemma & Daisy

This was first time we have used home boarding service. The arrangements from PetStay were efficient and smooth. We were introduced to Diane and her daughter (sorry forgot your name), they were fantastic, you immediately know they are dog lovers. They made Gemma and Daisy feel at home with loads of fuss and loves. Plenty of toys for them to play with. I was kept well informed throughout our holiday how they were. Will be using Diane and daughter again

Neil – May 2016

Oz

Oz

This is the first time we have used PetStay. We got to meet the carers in their own home first which was great.
We don’t often leave our dog and we were a bit nervous about how he would be. Jeremy and Lauren from PetStay in Ossett were wonderful with him and he was very well looked after. He was allowed to stick to his normal routine and he was treated like one of the family.
I have recommended PetStay to all our friends and we will use them again without hesitation.

Gary – December 2015

Bugsy

Bugsy

We felt reassured leaving our dog after an initial meeting with his carers before we committed. They left us feeling confident he would be looked after well, which he was. In fact, we’ve never seen him so exhausted when we returned to pick him up so we know he had a great time. We’d never use a kennels and happily pay more for a dog lover to look after our dog, though it is only marginally more and worth every penny!

Liz – December 2015

Charlie & Cooper

Charlie & Cooper

We are Charlie and Cooper and our mummy and daddy are Gail and Craig. They recently went on holiday and were determined not to put us into kennels. After some research they found Tracy Linfoot at PetStay. Tracy put them in touch with Fiona P who lives locally and we all went to visit her at her house to see if we would all get on. Turns out that Fiona P (who is now known as auntie fifi by all of us) knows how to look after and entertain us on a daily basis with trips out every day which included, the sculpture park, the woods, the fields and nice long walks.
One of us is partially blind and auntie fifi took extra special care and even moved her furniture to make things easier.
We were treated like members of her family and shown nothing but love, care and attention. We can’t wait to go back.
Thank you auntie fifi.

Molly

Molly

My dog Molly was very happy with Diane and family. This was the first time I had used Petstay and I was impressed with the level of care she received. She came home with more toys than she went with!

– September 2015

Poppy

Well pleased with our dog carer. Poppy was well cared for and would highly recommend She has slipped straight back into our normal routine. Having a look at owners home and checking safety before your pet stays totally puts your mind at rest. Our carer even text us while on holiday. Brilliant.

I have used Petstay many times over the past few years and have found the company and the carers dedicated to the customer -and pet-. My elderly dog has just stayed with Caroline in Ossett and she has been well cared for and they are a lovely family. It’s a great help now that there are more carers in my area. Will definitely use Caroline again.
