Our Carers

All our carers love dogs and are experienced dog owners who provide the best care for your pet while you’re away. Each carer is personally interviewed by PetStay to ensure they offer a safe, loving, and comfortable home environment for your dog. We are fully licensed, and our carers are covered by our public liability insurance for your peace of mind.

Some of our carers may have a dog of their own. If your pooch is happy to stay with another friendly dog, we’ll arrange a meet-up so they can get acquainted and see if they’re a good match.

Home Dog Boarding Prices in the Wakefield & Castleford area

1 dog £33.00 a day

2 dogs £45.00 a day

3 dogs £55.00 a day

Prices above are per day, or part thereof, except Bank Holidays. For more information regarding those rates, please contact us.

PetStay Arrangement Fee & Carer’s Allowance

Our daily rate is made up of two separate payments: the Arrangement Fee and the Carer’s Allowance. Together, these payments cover the full cost of your dog’s stay, ensuring they receive loving care in a safe and happy home.

Prices listed are per day (or part thereof), except for Bank Holidays, when the Carer’s Allowance is doubled — because we believe our wonderful carers deserve extra for their dedication during these special times!

Arrangement Fee

The Arrangement Fee secures your dog’s booking and is due within five days of meeting your chosen carer. For repeat bookings, this fee must be paid within five days of your requested dates being confirmed by PetStay.

This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable, as it covers the service provided by your local PetStay branch in carefully matching your dog with a suitable carer. It also contributes to essential operational costs, including:

Carer’s Allowance

The Carer’s Allowance is a separate payment, made directly to your chosen carer when you drop your dog off for their holiday. On Bank Holidays, this allowance is doubled, reflecting the extra commitment and care our carers provide during these times.

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a PetStay Carer

You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs and you need to be home during the day so you have plenty of time to give to the dogs you are caring for. You must have a secure garden and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have a dog of your own as long as your dog gets on with other dogs.

If you meet all the requirements listed above, we will come and visit you at your home. We will check the security of the garden, explain PetStay procedures and show you the guidelines each carer needs to follow. If you are happy with everything and we feel you would make a suitable PetStay carer, we would follow up a reference and arrange public liability insurance for you.

Our service is on a one-to-one basis, so only dogs from the same household will stay with you. You are allowed to take up to three dogs from the same household, BUT you choose what you are happy with. We will ask you how many dogs you would like to look after and what sized dog/s you would be happy to care for.

No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Any toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.

Yes each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, have been wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of the vaccinations will be brought to the meeting and shown to you.

All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. When you have your meeting with the owners all routines, including the number and length of walks, will be discussed. The dog is only ever walked on a lead.

We/you would endeavour to contact the owner or the emergency contact. The owner or the emergency contact would be liable for any expenses incurred in taking the dog to the vet.

You will receive a daily allowance starting from £19 per day.

If you are interested in becoming a carer, please ring us for an informal chat and ask any questions or email us with your details and we will come back to you. You can also use the contact form on the ‘contact us’ tab. If we feel you are suitable we would then arrange to visit you at home.

Poppy

July 2025

From the outset PetStay prioritised the needs of our dog and ourselves.  They made sure that we got the right carer’s which is so so important.  Communication was excellent from the moment we contact them until the minute we collected our dog upon our return.    How refreshing to deal with an honest and caring business.

Honey

April 2025

Honey our 13 year old Dalmatian was really well looked after by Susan for 14 days. Susan sent us plenty of pictures of Honey enjoying walks etc while we were on holiday which was very reassuring that she had settled. Definitely wouldn’t hesitate leaving her with Susan again.

Peanut

April 2025

From the moment we met Ann and Pete, we knew our young golden retriever, Peanut, was in the best possible hands. Leaving a young dog, especially one with medical needs like epilepsy, can be incredibly stressful, but Ann and Pete immediately put our minds at ease.  During our time away, Ann and Pete didn’t just “watch” Peanut, they truly treated him as one of their own. We received regular updates and photos that showed a happy and relaxed pup, clearly enjoying their company. It was evident that Peanut felt completely comfortable and loved.  It’s such a relief to have found someone so trustworthy, compassionate, and capable. We wholeheartedly recommend Ann and Pete to anyone looking for exceptional care for their furry family members. They go above and beyond, and we will definitely be using their services again.

Sparky

January 2025

We have used PetStay now three times. Every time the whole experience from booking onwards has been a good one with care taken to get things right for our dog and us. The peace of mind while on holiday cannot be underestimated and we would heartily recommend PetStay and its organisers and dog carers. We are already organising our next stay for Sparky.

Dexter

July 2024

From start to finish – PetStay (Carole) was amazing! They listened to what we needed/expected for our much loved dog. Matched us perfectly first time to Ann & Pete. Wow 😮 They’re so loveable, likeable, attentive and true dog lovers. We felt completely safe & relaxed to leave him, did not worry once whilst away. They gave regular updates, Dexter has been totally loved, cared for and you can see he’s truly enjoyed himself. He’s adopted them now as his holiday grandparents. Won’t hesitate to use PetStay or Ann & Pete every time. Fabulous all round. Thank you 🙏🏻

Monty and Fizzy

June 2024

Monty and Fizzy stayed over a week with Ann and Pete who took care of them as if they were their own. Both dogs settled in very well and Ann sent regular photos to us while we were away. It was such a relief to know that they were being looked after so well. Both Ann and Pete were so kind and gentle. We are very grateful and have booked them in again.

May 2024

Our dogs stayed with Pete and Anne, and I cannot praise them enough, what an amazing couple, my dogs love them so much. I would 100 % recommend PetStay what a fabulous service!

Andria

April 2024

PetStay was brilliant, they introduced me to a local pet sitter who was a five minute walk away. My dog is quiet nervous and I was concerned how she would be. I need not have been worried she obviously really enjoyed her stay with a lovely lady, so much so that I don’t think she really wanted to leave. I have already booked her next stay.

Jessi

March 2024

Fantastic service from PetStay once again! I can’t recommend PetStay enough. The booking process ensuring the right carer is paired with the right dog, through to the stay itself was brilliant. Susan took care of our dog as if she was her own. Sending photos and videos every day ensured we knew our dog, Jessi was having a great time.

Dixie

January 2024

Thank you PetStay.

Dixie loved her stay with Ann and Pete over the Christmas period. I felt so relaxed on holiday knowing she was looked after. I’ll definitely be booking again for my next holiday and I’m sure Dixie will be looking forward to visiting Ann and Pete again.

Ann and Pete looked after Gavin amazingly, they made us feel very reassured and sent regular updates. Would definitely use PetStay and Ann and Pete again

Helen

Winston

June 2022

This is the second time we have used PetStay, but with a different carer. Winston had the best time with Jean and Paul, they looked after him exceptionally well and he was sad to leave them when we went to pick him up. I would definitely recommend PetStay to any dog owner going away, they make everything easy and with the reassurance of being fully licenced and approved. Jean and Paul were fabulous with Winston and would book with them again in the future.

Bekki

Toby

February 2022

Toby is a 11 year old and has never stayed anywhere so we were very nervous about leaving him. Jean and Paul made us feel at ease, firstly when we visited pre-booking and when I dropped him off. We received daily updates and pictures. I would definitely recommend Jean and Paul and thank you to Rachel for great communication.

Gareth

Oscar & Lola

November 2019

Oscar and Lola had a fabulous holiday with Jan and Chris. They were spoilt rotten with lots of love and cuddles. Just what my two enjoy. Jan has a beautiful home with all the facilities for any dog to have a great stay. Jan happily kept me informed about the rascals. We will be more than happy to use PetStay again, especially if we can go to Jan and Chris.

Many thanks.
Helen

Tom

September 2019

Just want to say when we go on holiday we have no fears or worries about leaving Tom with Lauren and Jeremy which we have done on many occasions, we know he is loved and well cared for as much as we can hope. We have already booked him in for March and September with same, so highly recommended, nothing else to be said, but thank you both.

Ann

Maggie

September 2019

Thanks again PetStay for finding a happy place for Maggie to be whilst we went on holiday. She stayed with Cathy and Misty and Cathy kindly sent us photos of Maggie which was reassuring. Have used PetStay a few times now and have always been happy. In fact Maggie will be staying again in 4 weeks time!

Marie

Ben

September 2019

Thanks so much for your help and for the introduction to Jan and Chris. They have our Ben the perfect ‘second home’ whilst we were away. Ben was clearly very settled and happy, which was an enormous relief for us, as he had not stayed anywhere else before. We would be more than happy for Ben to stay with Chris and Jan anytime. They are the perfect dog-loving couple and treated him like family. Thanks again

Steve and Jane

Angus & Rosie

August 2019

Our 2 dogs Angus and Rosie went on a PetStay holiday to stay with Annette, where they had a great time. We met Annette before our holiday and she was great with the dogs so we knew they’d be OK. We got pictures and updates whilst we were away and could see they’d been well looked after when we picked them up. We hope Annette will be available for our next holiday ?.

Shelley

Lottie

August 2019

What can I say apart from wow! First time we’ve left our 11 month old puppy for more than a few days. I knew from our initial meeting with Annette that she would be in great hands. Throughout Lottie’s 10 day stay my family and I all felt at ease knowing that she was in an home, surrounded by ‘humans’ who loved her like their own. We received regular texts, photos and videos of Lottie having fun ‘on her own holiday with Annette’. Cannot recommend Annette ‘PetStay’ enough. Thank you from us all :).
