PetStay Norfolk, your local home dog boarding provider.

Hello my name is Sophia and I am very excited about welcoming you to PetStay Norfolk. We offer five-star pet sitting, giving your dog a home-from-home stay and providing you with peace of mind while you’re away.

Ever since watching James Herriot on the tv and reading all his books, I have wanted to be a vet. After graduating as a veterinary surgeon and working as a vet for a few years I started a family with my husband and found I couldn’t really combine being a vet with family life.

I started teaching Animal Management at the local college and achieved my teaching degree after 2 years. This was a great combination, I still had a job where I could take my dog to work but when the children were off school, I was there for them as well. After teaching for about 7 years, it was time for a change. I was looking for a job where I could combine my love for dogs with my organisational skills and when I saw that PetStay Norfolk was available (in 2017), I jumped at the chance to take it on and I haven’t looked back!

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a PetStay Carer

You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs and you need to be home during the day so you have plenty of time to give to the dogs you are caring for. You must have a secure garden and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have a dog of your own as long as your dog gets on with other dogs.

If you meet all the requirements listed above, we will come and visit you at your home. We will check the security of the garden, explain PetStay procedures and show you the guidelines each carer needs to follow. If you are happy with everything and we feel you would make a suitable PetStay carer, we would follow up a reference and arrange public liability insurance for you.

Our service is on a one-to-one basis, so only dogs from the same household will stay with you. You are allowed to take up to three dogs from the same household, BUT you choose what you are happy with. We will ask you how many dogs you would like to look after and what sized dog/s you would be happy to care for.

No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Any toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.

Yes each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, have been wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of the vaccinations will be brought to the meeting and shown to you.

All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. When you have your meeting with the owners all routines, including the number and length of walks, will be discussed. The dog is only ever walked on a lead.

We/you would endeavour to contact the owner or the emergency contact. The owner or the emergency contact would be liable for any expenses incurred in taking the dog to the vet.

You will receive a daily allowance starting from £16.50 per day.

If you are interested in becoming a carer, please ring us for an informal chat and ask any questions or email us with your details and we will come back to you. You can also use the contact form on the ‘contact us’ tab. If we feel you are suitable we would then arrange to visit you at home.

Kelp

September 2025

First time we used PetStay and we were not disappointed. Sophia was very helpful and explained everything with great detail. We were slightly nervous having never used a pet sitter before, however we needn’t of been. Our pet sitters Kate and Geoff were beyond amazing!! They were so kind and welcoming and looked after our beloved Kelp so well we weren’t sure she would want to come home. They kept in contact whilst we were away sending us updates and photos and they paid great attention to our dogs needs and are very knowledgeable when it comes to dog training. We immediately rebooked them for our next holiday which we think in itself speaks volumes. Five star ratings all round from us.

Laura

Izzie

September 2025

We feel we can totally rely on PetStay, with Sophia at the helm, to take care of our Izzie. She sometimes has different carers but seems to have a great time with all. She had a great stay with Julia and Stephen, recently. It means that we can go away with complete peace of mind.

Rosie

Muffin

September 2025

Excellent booking procedures – easy to navigate and good support from Sophia when needed. Our carer Linda is wonderful. She went above and beyond when Muffin needed a visit to the vets due to a sore pad. We have every confidence leaving Muffin under her care. Thank you.

Michael

Belle

September 2025

Once again Belle had a lovely stay with Jenefer and Don in Norfolk, she gets so excited when she goes to their home, she has stayed with them several times now, we know we can go off on our holiday knowing that our little girl is in good hands

Deborah

Kenny

September 2025

We are so lucky to have found PetStay and Ralph and Val. Our boy Kenny is our world and the fantastic care and wonderful adventures that he has when they look after him is so heart-warming. Whenever he stays with them he is so excited to go to their house and that is all the verification we need that he is happy there. We can leave for our holiday knowing that he is in the best hands ever and that allows us to relax. We have already booked for next year and will continue doing so as long as we have our boy.

Lesley

Bella

September 2025

We have boarded our American Cocker Spaniel with Jenefer and Don several times, and each time it felt like a home from home for Bella. We can go on holiday with peace of mind, knowing that she is in safe hands. And we get daily pictures of Bella!

Tilly & Dotty

September 2025

Again an excellent experience with PetStay Norfolk. Faultless from booking to actually leaving our dogs. We go away with the confidence that our dogs are being cared for and loved by the carers. Our girls go into the carers house and quickly settled down. Ali and Frank send us regular updates whilst we are away. We don’t worry about them at all. Thank you.

Judith

Jack

September 2025

It was September 2023 when we first contacted PetStay. We were matched with Martin and Carolyn and a few days later we had our first meeting, Jack took to both Martin and Carolyn and it was a perfect match. Nine stays later with Carolyn and Martin Jack is very relaxed and loves them both and what is special we know that they love him. They always go that extra mile and we know he’s looked after in the same way we look after him. PetStay are a very well run company, very organised and most importantly very caring, I would always recommend Sophia’s PetStay to anyone who is going away for a few days or longer, you can be sure he or she will be looked after 24/7 Jack is already looking forward to his next stay with Carolyn and Martin in December, it’s lovely to be able to go on holiday and have complete peace of mind that Jack couldn’t be in better hands. Thank you Carolyn, Martin and PetStay.

Nico

Nala

August 2025

This was our first use of PetStay (Norfolk) and our nine month old Cocker Spaniel Nala’s first stay away from us. She stayed with Clive, Allison and their dogs Missy and Willow. We received daily updates, videos and photos and couldn’t fault anything that Clive and Allison did. Nala had lots of fun and ended up missing Willow after we picked her up. We will more than happily go back to Clive and Allison again for future bookings.

Ian

Betty

August 2025

This was Betty’s first stay with PetStay (Norfolk) and she had a brilliant time with Clive, Allison and their dog Missy. They were so diligent and thoughtful which meant we felt very comfortable, knowing Betty would be well cared for. We loved getting a daily update with photos and Betty is looking forward to her next visit. Thank you!

Tracey

Harry

August 2025

Our dog Harry had a fantastic stay with Sophia, plenty of updates and photos received to let us know he was having a great time, thank you again and he looks forward to his return stay

Emma

Poppy

July 2025

Poppy stayed with Alison and Frank for her holiday whilst we were away. She has been going to them for a while now. It’s a real home from home and we have no qualms about leaving her. She gets excited as we pull into their road and goes off to explore their house as soon as we get there. Alison keeps us updated with WhatsApp whilst away as to what they’ve been up to like beach walks, etc. including photos. We know we have complete peace of mind when leaving her.

Julie

Teddy

July 2025

Our dog Teddy was settled and happy when he stayed with Annette, we were able to enjoy our holiday safe in the knowledge that he was well looked after.

Amy

Ronnie

July 2025

It was the second time we had left Ronnie with Tracy and Mark and he was really pleased to see them both again. Once again, Tracy and Mark were fantastic. They kept us informed and updated with pictures and text messages so I knew he was happy and very well cared for. They really do treat him like one of the family. He had lots of fuss and games and plenty of opportunity for walks and exercise. Tracy and Mark are so friendly and approachable and I wouldn’t think twice about asking them to have him for our next holiday!

Thank you so much PetStay and especially Tracy and Mark.

Debbie

Barney

July 2025

Barney has stayed with Jessamy a number of times and has a lovely time! Lots of cuddles and exercise for him and we received photos and videos every day which reassured us and made us laugh. Jessamy took Barney to a field daily to make sure he got all the exercise and stimulation he needed. Would highly recommend.

Elizabeth

Hettie & Gemma

July 2025

Our Hettie and Gemma really enjoyed their holiday by the sea with Annette, Ian and Copper the Beagle! This is the first time we had used PetStay and having only had Gemma for 16 months, who was previously in a puppy farm, we were anxious that she would settle. Annette and Ian were absolutely brilliant and we were very happy with their care, they were very kind and receptive to their needs to allow them to feel at home straightaway. When we collected them they were both calm, relaxed and were their usual happy selves.

Jeanette

Missy

July 2025

What makes my holiday great is knowing how happy Missy is with Hilda. Thank you PetStay for finding such fabulous people to share our best friends with.

Annie

Honey

July 2025

This was our first experience of Honey, our 6 yr old Westipoo being looked after by someone who wasn’t a family member. We chose PetStay because of their policy of only having one dog stay at a time and the reassurance of their procedures concerning how care should be arranged. We only needed one night and this was provided by Julia and Stephen who were very welcoming and easy to get on with. They clearly looked after Honey very well including taking her for a walk on the beach, which she enjoyed, judging by the video they sent us. Happy to use PetStay again.

Martin

Paddy

July 2025

First time away for our soft lad! We did an overnight tester prior to a holiday later in year. We knew he would be anxious but Clive & Allison are so welcoming and took good care of him. Would definitely recommend.

Vivien

Digby

July 2025

We have now had our Cockapoo Digby stay with Ian and Shelagh twice. He loves staying with them and their own dog Tillie. Ian and Shelagh are a lovely couple who take such good care of Digby and would give us regular updates on what they had all been up too. Having Digby stay with Ian, Shelagh and Tillie was perfect as Digby was welcomed into their home as if he was part of their family.

Zoe

Kenny

July 2025

We found Ralph and Val through PetStay Norfolk and have never been so happy. We tried our boy in kennels but he hated it. When it’s time for him to stay with Ralph and Val, he runs to their door. They are fabulous people and look after him like a king. It makes us so happy to know that he is cared for by a truly marvellous couple.

Lesley

Adrian

Hi, I’m Adrian. My two grown up children wanted me to get another dog after my last one “Toots” died at the age of 15. Being the wrong side of 60, I was not prepared to commit the next 15 years to caring for another dog full time. PetStay provided me with the best of both worlds. I compare it to being a grandparent. I can give massive amounts of love, care, and consideration to the dogs in my care, and then hand them back to their owners. I get to meet a huge variety of breeds and characters, and they all make me laugh out loud.

TracyAnn

I’m TracyAnn, newly retired from my career as an Area Trainer to schools. Since losing my husband in February 2021 and now living alone, I found myself needing company and someone to care for. I decided to join PetStay to give my life purpose and to devote my love and attention to dogs. I had looked after my sons two dogs for many years and found that the love, companionship and snuggles are returned to me in abundance.

Clive and Allison

We’re Clive and Allison. We have always had dogs and treat them like one of the family. When our dog Rodney passed away a few years ago we were understandably devastated. The house wasn’t the same. So we decided to get Missy & Milo, two lovely Shitzu Bichon cross dogs which we raised from puppies. Unfortunately, late last year Milo passed away after a short illness. Missy has looked so unhappy since he has gone. Clive was due to retire and had been thinking of something he could do to fill his time. We knew we both loved dogs and walking, and it would be company for Missy to have another pooch to play with, so we made the decision to become PetStay carers. We have used PetStay ourselves, on a number of occasions, and were really happy with the service they provided. Missy and Milo were puppies when we first used PetStay, as the thought of putting them in kennels wasn’t on the agenda. So far we have had Betty stay with us, who was an absolute joy to look after. And we hope to have more pooches to care for in a nice calm environment.

Chrisie

Hello. This is me Chrisie.

I’m a single lady(I can hear you all bursting into song lol)

I live in a lovely town called Wymondham in Norfolk.

I’ve had dogs all my adult life.

My first dog was a westie called Solo. He lived to the ripe old age of 18. Then along came Badger and Weasel, the Jack Russells. These were rescued from dog’s trust when they were puppies.

I lost Badger to cancer aged 15. Little Weasel made it to 17.

I swore blind I would never put myself through the heartache of losing another dog.

Then BOOM along came this little lady, Pebbles again a rescue.

She certainly kept me sane during covid (well, my friends might not agree)

If I’m lucky enough to look after your precious pooch, I can assure you that they will be treated like part of the family. Thanks for reading my essay.

Chrisie (joined PetStay Norfolk early 2024)

Shelagh and Ian

Hello from Shelagh and Ian.

We live in Gorleston, both of us are retired and have recently joined PetStay.

We retired to Gorleston from Cambridge 6 years ago and are keen to find hobbies to keep us occupied. We have a very friendly Westie called Tillie Mai who loves meeting everyone human or canine.

We have always owned dogs and they have always brought great joy to our lives. We came across PetStay when we looking for a short stay for Tillie as she couldn’t come on a trip with us. We did not want to put her into kennels as we both felt that she would be much happier in a friendly warm homely environment.

It also led us to believe that we could help other owners and their dogs by supplying them with that attractive environment and at the same time giving us a satisfying hobby along with the chance of meeting some canine characters.

We live in a detached bungalow with an enclosed garden in a quiet avenue and are 5 minutes walk from Gorleston beach and front.  (joined PetStay Norfolk early in 2024)

Alison and Frank

We are Alison and Frank.

We have been Petstay carers since June 2022 and love it!

These are Dolly and Coco.

Dolly was our very first boarder and after she lost her older brother, she was joined by a younger sister Coco! They are regulars and treat our home as their own!

We have many regular boarders. We love having different breeds and getting to know their individual personalities. We try and give our visitors a holiday of their own. We have lots of lovely walks near by and my mum, who is in her 90s, loves to have visits and cuddles too!

Linda and Emmanuel

These are the lovely Linda and Emmanuel who live in a detached house with a large secure garden.

Emmanuel is a recently retired Officer of the Merchant Navy and his wife Linda works from home.

They have 2 lovely dogs, George the Whippet (5yrs) and Hope the Greyhound (6yrs)

Emmanuel and Linda joined PetStay in 2022 having placed one of their dogs with us after which they felt that they too could offer a safe, loving and friendly environment for dogs when their owners where travelling or away.

They enjoy walking the dogs in the countryside and playing with them in their large garden throughout the day.

Ralph and Valerie

Pictured here is Ralph with one of their regular boarders.

Ralph and Valerie joined PetStay Norfolk in 2021. They live in a terraced home in Gorleston with their 2 cats and a small mainly paved back garden.

Ralph and Valerie don’t often get a chance to look after new boarders now as they are fully booked with their regular boarders.

We love looking after a variety of dogs of various shapes and sizes , from young and lively cockapoos to older and more sedate dogs of mixed breeds. They all have their different personalities and needs. The younger ones enjoying energetic walks on the beach and the older ones maybe just a slow walk around the park, with a sit-down by a bench halfway around. Not only are the dogs getting some exercise but so are we.’

Carolyn and Martin

Let us introduce you to the lovely Carolyn and Martin, pictured with one of their boarders. Carolyn and Martin live in a 3 story home with a secure back garden in a lovely market town in South Norfolk with lovely walking areas nearby. They are particularly good with the older calmer dogs or with greyhounds. Carolyn and Martin have been with PetStay Norfolk since April 2019.  This is what they say about being part of PetStay Norfolk: I used to work as a childminder and Martin has retired from teaching.

We have both had dogs in the past and other pets also. We felt we would love the opportunity to care for dogs and enjoy meeting different breeds and their owners.

We both enjoy making the most of the lovely walks on our doorstep.

We want to make our home a relaxing, happy place for each dog to stay in.

Eleta

Let us introduce you to our lovely carer Eleta, pictured here with one of her boarders. Eleta lives in a detached home with a sizeable fully enclosed garden in a cul-de-sac in a village in North Norfolk with lovely walking areas around the corner. Eleta has been with PetStay since April 2019 and has semi retired from PetStay recently and now only takes a few of her regulars.

Julie

Julie, pictured here with one of her boarders. Julie lives with her own two lovely French bulldogs in a lovely village with great walking opportunities. Julie lives in a bungalow with a nice garden. She has been with PetStay Norfolk since March 2019 and is still happy to have both new and repeat boarders. This is what Julie says: I have lived with rescue dogs all my life: a random assortment of breeds including GSD, Border Collie, Cocker, Irish Setters, lurcher, English Sheepdog, Dobermann.

I have also walked for the Cinnamon Trust & fostered difficult dogs for national rescues.

The issues I’ve encountered (inc aggression, separation anxiety, resource guarding, BOAS, puppy farming) inspired me to study further, and gain a level 4 qualification in Advanced Canine Behaviour.

While I was thinking about taking a break from fostering, a Petstay ad popped up on my Facebook feed, and I couldn’t resist.

All my boarders have been adorable, and they’ve really enjoyed staying with my own 2 dogs, and my grey parrot, who is careless of data laws, has been calling the boarders by name.

Jessamy

Jessamy lives in a lovely home in a small town in South Norfolk with vast country walks nearby. Jessamy has been with PetStay Norfolk since December 2018 and mainly only takes her regular ‘dogs’ now but is always happy to help in an emergency.

Jenefer and Don

Jenefer with boarder on walk

The lovely Jenefer and Don, Jen pictured here with a doggie guest. Jenefer and Don live in a small bungalow with a small, paved back garden, in a North Norfolk town with lots of lovely walking opportunities. They have proven to be particularly good with nervous little dogs ensuring to put them at ease in no time. Jenefer and Don have been with PetStay since April 2019. This is what they say about being PetStay Norfolk carers: We have lived in West Norfolk for over thirty years and have owned various breeds of dogs, including an Old English Sheep Dog, a Cross Doberman Rottweiler, and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We live in a detached bungalow within a small village with plenty of walks nearby, including The Peter Scott Walk. Since Jenefer’s retirement and me being semi-retired we have joined PetStay and have had the pleasure of looking after and making friends with, some lovely dogs who have been great characters with their own personalities. We are very mindful that a dog is part of a family, and they may worry about them while on their holidays, therefore we are happy to update the family and send photos, if wanted while the dog is in our care.

Gerri and Mike

Let us introduce you to the lovely Gerri and Mike. Gerri and Mike live in a lovely bungalow with a very large fully enclosed garden in a rural village in North Norfolk. They are our longest standing carers having been with PetStay Norfolk since before Sophia owned the branch (March 2017). They don’t often get a chance to take on new boarders now as they are very busy with their regular boarders. This is what they say about being a carer for PetStay Norfolk:  ‘We are carers for PetStay Norfolk and love doing it, making a fuss of the dogs and stroking them is very therapeutic.

Dogs just make us smile more & feel happy, the nice people we meet who bring their dogs to us, are lovely. Also it’s such good exercise, dog walking. It’s amazing how many people we have met on our walks. Now we have retired it’s such a great thing to do.’.
