PetStay Norfolk Branch

Hello my name is Sophia and I am very excited about welcoming you to PetStay Norfolk. Ever since watching James Herriot on the tv and reading all his books, I have wanted to be a vet. After graduating as a veterinary surgeon and working as a vet for a few years I started a family with my husband and found I couldn’t really combine being a vet with family life.

I started teaching Animal Management at the local college and achieved my teaching degree after 2 years. This was a great combination, I still had a job where I could take my dog to work (Seamus, on the picture, still loves coming to every lesson and the students love him) but when the children were off school, I was home as well.I was looking for a job where I could combine my love for dogs with my organisational skills and when I saw that PetStay Norfolk was available, I jumped at the chance to take it on.

Why home boarding?

Having fostered dogs for a few years, I know how dogs change when they are in kennels and how they improve when they come out of kennels into a loving family home. Having always had rescue dogs, I have never put any of them in kennels when I went on holiday, but at times it was hard to find alternatives. We usually book Seamus’ holiday before we book our own! Home boarding is the perfect solution to make sure that both dog(s) and owner are happy and at PetStay we make sure that all our carers are perfectly suited to the dog’s needs.

Why PetStay Norfolk? With PetStay Norfolk you can be assured that your dog will be in the most comfortable environment and well looked after by one of our carefully considered and handpicked carers. It is very important to me that I match your dog and the carer accordingly to ensure they are both right for each other. Most importantly I make sure that the carer can adapt to the dog’s daily routine, rather than the other way around. My carers are the most reliable and trustworthy in the area and meet stringent criteria in line with local council home boarding licence requirements, they are all insured and interviewed in their own homes.

What next?

So if you are looking for a caring holiday home for your four legged family member with people that adore dogs, are fully vetted, insured, licenced by the local council, are matched to the requirements of your dog and who will give them all their usual home comforts and routine whilst you are away, then phone me using the numbers below for a warm and friendly chat or write to me using the email address.

Before you then choose to book with PetStay, I will take great care to get to know you and your dog(s), taking full details of your dog(s) so that I can match them with the perfect carer. I will then arrange a ‘meet and greet’ for you, your dog and the carer in the carer’s home, with no obligation. After meeting the carer, and when you are completely happy with the match, I will organise the booking.

Sophia - PetStay Norfolk

We do get incredibly busy during school holidays and in the summer months so make sure you call us and arrange your dog care as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you and providing the very best home boarding that Norfolk has to offer.

Becoming a carer

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a PetStay Carer

What are the requirements of becoming a carer?

You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs and you need to be home during the day so you have plenty of time to give to the dogs you are caring for. You must have a secure garden and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have a dog of your own as long as your dog gets on with other dogs.

How are your carers vetted?

If you meet all the requirements listed above, we will come and visit you at your home. We will check the security of the garden, explain PetStay procedures and show you the guidelines each carer needs to follow. If you are happy with everything and we feel you would make a suitable PetStay carer, we would follow up a reference and arrange public liability insurance for you.

Do I need to be licensed?

If you are successful then you would apply to the council for a home boarding licence (if required by the local council), we can help you with this, it is a straight forward process.

How many dogs can I look after?

Our service is on a one-to-one basis, so only dogs from the same household will stay with you. You are allowed to take up to three dogs from the same household, BUT you choose what you are happy with. We will ask you how many dogs you would like to look after and what sized dog/s you would be happy to care for.

Do I have to provide the food?

No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Any toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.

Does the dog/s have to be vaccinated?

Yes each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, have been wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of the vaccinations will be brought to the meeting and shown to you.

What about walking the dogs?

All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. When you have your meeting with the owners all routines, including the number and length of walks, will be discussed. The dog is only ever walked on a lead.

What if the dog becomes ill?

We/you would endeavour to contact the owner or the emergency contact. The owner or the emergency contact would be liable for any expenses incurred in taking the dog to the vet.

How am I paid?

Your fee is paid as the dog is dropped off. This is a self-employed home-based position, is very flexible and fits around your lifestyle.

What happens next?

If you are interested in becoming a carer, please ring us for an informal chat and ask any questions or email us with your details and we will come back to you. You can also use the contact form on the ‘contact us’ tab. If we feel you are suitable we would then arrange to visit you at home.

Our Reviews

Harry

Harry had a wonderful holiday whilst we were away.  He was booked into 5 star accommodation in a delightful village in Norfolk and on his arrival Gerri and Mike took him for a walk to explore the countryside.

We re homed Harry at 5 months and he has several food allergies and intolerance’s. Harry was also very anxious at being left for any length of time but he has grown out of that.   He is 3 years old now and this is the first time we have felt able to leave him.

Gerri and Mike took him to Cromer by train!! then onto the pier to watch the antiques roadshow being filmed.  He behaved impeccably and we are impatiently waiting for the B.B.C to broadcast this episode.

Gerri sent us a text on the first day of our holiday to say how well he had settled in so we would not worry. We just hope that when we are able to book our next holiday Gerri and Mike are not fully booked a year in advance.

From our first visit to Gerri and Mike to introduce Harry to them I knew he would be looked after as if their own.

“Pixie has stayed with PetStay carers twice. She was a rescue dog in kennels for seven months so we were very apprehensive about putting her in boarding kennels. We are so glad we found PetStay where she is the only dog in the household and keeps to her normal routine. She absolutely loves being with carers and not shut in a kennel. She comes home totally relaxed and we know she loves every minute of care and attention that she receives. We can also go away on holiday knowing that she is happy.”

“We left our 2 year old cockapoo Daisy with Julie for 8 days while we went on holiday. Julie was lovely and looked after Daisy very well. “We recently left our two Romanian rescue dogs with Jessamy in Norfolk for 10 days. This was the longest we had ever left them. Jessamy was great, very attentive to how we look after them and keen not to make too many changes to their routine. The dogs were very settled and any anxieties we might have had about leaving them were left behind very quickly. Jessamy sent us photos of the dogs on their walks and even a little video clip of the dogs playing in her garden. We were able to have a relaxing holiday for the first time in nearly two years knowing they were happy! Also knowing that PetStay is a professional organisation that takes their responsibilities seriously gave us a great peace of mind. I would definitely recommend Jessamy and PetStay.”

“Our 6 months old Jack Russel puppy Mira went to see Sophia from PetStay Norfolk while we went away for on a business trip where we could not take her with us. As this was the first time leaving her with someone else we were unsure how Mira would like it. Sophia and her family were great with our little dog and accepted her as part of their family in no time. Mira felt so happy and well looked after, we could see it from all the pictures Sophia sent us every day. Quickly we knew that Mira was well looked after and even got spoilt with love and attention the whole duration of her stay. – How could she not? With four people and two other lovely dogs to play with? – To sum up, our dog was perfectly well looked after and we would use PetStay Norfolk again! Big thanks to Sophia and her family!”

“Jessamy looked after our lively springer spaniel, Jess for a week and then a long weekend in February. We were quite nervous as we’ve never left her with anyone unknown to us before and she’s quite a sensitive dog. Jessamy exceeded our expectations. She went out of her way to welcome Jess, gave her lots of exercise and play times. She kept in touch sending us photos and when we took Jess back for her second stay, she was so excited when she realised where we were going and went straight in to Jessamy’s house without any hesitation. Jessamy made a real effort to replicate Jess’ normal routine. I would happily use Jessamy again.”

Harriet & Gypsy

“This was the first time Harriet and Gypsy had been to stay with Adrian and Christine, with PetStay.

Having had a meeting visit a few months ago, Harriet and Gypsy had no hesitation going in the door on a very snowy morning, the day the snow came down in Norfolk.

Adrian welcomed them in along with their box of tricks, and that was it! Get comfy on the sofa, get out a ball and hold Adrian to ransom for the never ending game of ball ball!

On our return a week later, the girls were so relaxed and chilled out, but hopefully pleased we had come to take them home! They were obviously looked after extremely well, and hopefully Adrian and Christine are happy to have them again in the year when they are booked in.

Highly recommended doggie sitting service”

A fantastic a friendly service that stayed true to every promise and then some!
Our dog was introduced to the carer’s animals in an open and neutral space before being taken to the house to check the place out. We talked over every aspect of our animal’s medical and personal history as well as her behaviours. It felt as though our cared really wanted to make our dog part of the family.
During our time away, we received regular updates via WhatsApp showing our dog having a great time and being really well cared for.
All this for a price comparable to the cold, unfriendly kennels we’ve seen but felt uncomfortable using in the past.
Could not have been happier

They were never left alone and were included in their carers’ living area, even on the couch. Not only did they eat well and exercised well with walks, chasing birds and playing football, but obviously LOVED as well. We couldn’t look after them any better.

From start to finish Kerry was only concerned that Poppy would enjoy her stay and be well looked after- we were left in no doubt that Kerry and her family would look after Poppy as if she were their own. I received updates on how Poppy was doing during her stay. We will use Kerry again in the future without hesitation.

Our beloved Jack Russell Tara stayed with Delna in Norfolk for a few days at the end of May. The situation was perfect for Tara who is blind. With a lovely house and garden to play in she soon made herself at home.
The attention she received from the carer couldn’t have been better and she was still the same happy little dog when we picked her up as she was when we left her.
We wouldn’t hesitate to use Petstay again, the service was excellent from the franchisee and they communicated promptly to any queries I had.

Norfolk-Max & Ruby

Max & Ruby

I was extremely worried & nervous about leaving my beloved fur babies, Max & Ruby, in kennels while we were on holiday. I looked at so many on the internet but couldn’t bear the thought of them in a ‘concrete cell’. Luckily I came across Petstay. It sounded perfect & would stop me worrying on my holidays. The booking process was easy, yet personal.

My dogs got to stay with Jessica. We went for a visit beforehand & they seemed right at home instantly. Jessica kindly agreed to send me photos & updates regularly. They looked like they were having the best time, I was worried they wouldn’t want to come home.

I cannot fault the service at all. I highly recommend Pet stay & will definitely use them again.

Norfolk-Willby

Wilby

We have only had friends look after our Welshie Wilby before as he did not like kennels at all and got very stressed. But having found the Petstay website we were delighted to be introduced to a lovely couple who cared for Wilby as if he were there own and he was so calm when we collected him we could see he had had a happy stay which made us very happy too. We would definitely recommend Petstay and thank you to Gerri and Mike. Wilby looks forward to staying with you again very soon!

Norfolk-Dave&Molly

Dave & Molly

My husband was going into hospital and it was necessary to look for care for our very spoilt and valued dogs. I found Petstay on the internet and from the time I contacted them I was impressed by their professionalism. Immediately I felt I had found the right company. At our introduction to our dog carers we were both immediately reassured that our dogs would be well looked after. Molly and Dave stayed with Margaret and Kevin for 4 nights where they were spoilt and cared for as if they were at home. I cannot praise them enough for the care they have to the dogs and the support they gave to me following my husband’s operation and feel I have made good friends. If you like us and reluctant to put your dogs in Kennels then this is the right service for you. Thank you PetStay

We were very pleased with David and Sheila’s care of Honey and Rosie last week – definitely will want to use them again!

Bella & Bess

Bella & Bess

Just to let you know how absolutely wonderful your carers were with Bella and Bess last week. I was a little worried when I took them back after the long week away, but their condition was first class and I wouldn’t hesitate to leave them again with PetStay.

Alfie

Alfie

Just wanted to say thanks for looking after Alfie so well. He must have thoroughly enjoyed his stay because he was very depressed about being home for the first 2 days. I think he missed you!
It was really nice to be able to leave him in such a loving home without any worries while we were away. I will definitely use PetStay again. Once again, thank you very much

Linzi & Steve, Norwich

Augie

Augie

We have an 18 Month Italian Spinone called Augie. He’s a gentle giant and a bit of a handful. We had a couple of holidays planned and I wanted to find a caring home environment which would suit his character as he is a very sociable dog and likes to be around people and other animals. Spencer and his family and their dog Oreo were absolutely wonderful. He did a short stay at first to see how it would go. Spencer and family couldn’t do enough for him. They followed the daily routine he has already for walking, feeding and sleeping and he was so content when I picked him up I don’t think he wanted to come home! He then did a second longer stay and I was so impressed by the outcome of the first visit I knew I didn’t have to worry at all and I was right. For me and Augie, Pet stay has just the right balance of professionalism within a caring family environment and I fully recommend Spencer at Petstay to anyone.

Vanessa & Chris Bandy, Norwich

Please meet some of our PetStay carers:

Carolyn & Martin

Hi we are Carolyn and Martin. We live in Wymondham. I used to work as a childminder and Martin has retired from teaching. We recently joined PetStay Norfolk.

We have both had dogs in the past and other pets also. We felt we would love the opportunity to care for dogs and enjoy meeting different breeds and their owners.

We both enjoy making the most of the lovely walks on our doorstep.

We want to make our home a relaxing, happy place for each dog to stay in.

Carolyn

Hi my name is Carolyn and I have recently (May 2018) joined PetStay.  I grew up with dogs, cats and horses and have always wanted a dog of my own.  My past jobs haven’t allowed this though due to lots of working away and abroad.  Since changing my career I now have the time but I know the heartbreak of losing a pet would be too much for me.  I love looking after my friends dogs while they’re away and when I saw the ad for PetStay I knew I’d found a great way of getting my doggy fix

I’ve just had my first customer to stay for a week and I’ve loved every second of him being here.  I can’t wait to have more

Don with Bonnie

We have lived in West Norfolk for over thirty years and have owned various breeds of dogs, including an Old English Sheep Dog, a Cross Doberman Rottweiler and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

We live in a detached bungalow within a small village with plenty of walks nearby, including The Peter Scott Walk. Since Jenefer’s retirement and me being semi-retired we have joined PetStay and have had the pleasure of looking after and making friends with, some lovely dogs who have been great characters with their own personalities.

We are very mindful that a dog is part of a family, and they may worry about them while on their holidays, therefore we are happy to update the family and send photos, if wanted while the dog is in our care.

Julie

I am Julie and am located 5 mins from Gorleston beach, I have lived with rescue dogs all my life: a random assortment of breeds including GSD, Border Collie, Cocker, Irish Setters, lurcher, English Sheepdog, Dobermann.

I have also walked for the Cinnamon Trust & fostered difficult dogs for national rescues.

The issues I’ve encountered (inc aggression, separation anxiety, resource guarding, BOAS, puppy farming) inspired me to study further, and gain a level 4 qualification in Advanced Canine Behaviour.

While I was thinking about taking a break from fostering, a Petstay ad popped up on my Facebook feed, and I couldn’t resist.

All my boarders have been adorable, and they’ve really enjoyed staying with my own 2 dogs, and my grey parrot, who is careless of data laws, has been calling the boarders by name.

Norfolk-Nicola carer

Nicola,Brian, Lily & Autumn

My name is Nicola. I live in Attleborough with my husband Brian and my daughter Lily aged 9. We have a Labrador called Autumn who is very friendly and loves a friend to play with.
I have had dogs all my life. Up until recently I have looked after guide dogs during their last 3 months of training just before they are matched to their prospective owner.
They all loved staying with us and some used to hide up when the trainer came to collect them!
I absolutely adore dogs, they make life feel complete.
Due to my husband’s change of work I was fortunate enough to leave my part time job and look after dogs. This is something I have dreamt of doing for a long time.
I totally understand how difficult it is to leave your dog and assure you we look after them like our own and ensure they are happy and relaxed.”

Norfolk-Jessamy

Jessamy

Jessamy lives in a small but lovely end terraced house in an area with some lovely walks. She has a small, very secure garden. This is what Jessamy says about herself:
I was bought up with dogs, had my own and always knew they would be a large part of my life. Since I moved to Norfolk in 2016 I have volunteered as a dog walker for a rescue centre – which I now try to fit in when I can – around being a pet Carer which I absolutely love. I’ve done a couple of Kennel Club approved courses and am going to be starting a pet behaviour course in 2018. Can’t wait!

Norfolk-Marion

Marion

‘My name is Marion and am retired and live on my own with my two elderly cats. I have had pets all my life including dogs in the past. I would love to care for and befriend dogs again and PetStay is a way of doing so. I have been helping recently on some puppy training classes and this has updated me on the way dogs behave with each other and with humans! I am quite new to this area of Thorpe Marriott (officially Taverham) and have discovered that there are lovely dog walks nearby and lots of dog owners too. I couldn’t be happier or more excited!’

Norfolk-Adrian and Christine

Adrian & Christine

Adrian and Christine live in a bungalow in a rural village with lovely dog walking areas nearby. They are semi-retired and have their hours sorted in such a way that one of them is always at home so the boarding dogs will never have to be left on their own. This is what they say about being part of the team of PetStay Norfolk carers.

‘My name is Christine and I have been looking after animals, mainly dogs, for the past twenty years. Recently my husband, Adrian, has joined me, and together we have experienced the joy of caring for other people’s dogs, and sometimes cats, especially after our own lovely dog passed away nine years ago.

We decided not to have another pet of our own but to continue looking after other peoples dogs whilst they were away. Recently we saw an advert for Pet Stay and decided to give it a go, and we have really enjoyed the experience.

Our aim is to ensure the dogs that stay with us are well cared for and enjoy a Home from Home experience so that when they return home they are relaxed and stress free.’

Norfolk-Kerry

Kerry

Kerry is a hair dresser and works from home, she lives in a semi-detached house in a lovely green village near Norwich with some really nice walking areas close by. Kerry lives with her husband and 8-year-old son. She is used to both large dogs and small ones.

‘I have grown up with dogs all my life until I lost my last dog 3 years ago, so thought that being a carer would be a lovely way to get my doggy fix without the heartache. I missed my walks and having a dog around the house also my 8 year old boy loves it too. I have looked after some lovely dogs so far and look forward to many more.’

Norfolk-Tanya

Tanya & Lee

Tanya and Lee both work in education, their grown-up daughters and their partners also live at home and also work in education so they are only available during school holidays. Any dog would be thrilled however as it will have adult company all the time and will be thoroughly spoiled. They live in a lovely area with plenty of walks. This is what they said after their first guest and here is Tanya pictured with some other guests ‘Happy and Ani’.

‘We have just recently joined PetStay as we love having dogs around the house. We have had two Cairn Terriers, Buster who was 14 when he passed away & Sparky who was 11 when he passed away.

We both work full time & felt it wasn’t fair to a new puppy. When I saw PetStay on Facebook I felt this would be the perfect opportunity for us to have another dog / dogs during the school holidays.

We have thoroughly enjoyed having our first little visitor Harry. He has settled in really well, giving his owner a well-deserved holiday knowing her little man is in very safe hands.

We have had some lovely walks & he has enjoyed trying all the beds out!!
Looking forward to our next little visitors.
Tanya & Lee’

Norfolk-Margaret & Kevin

Margaret & Kevin

The lovely Margaret and Kevin. Pictured here with 2 of their guests, Maisie and Jen. They live in a detached bungalow on the edge of a village with a lovely large garden. This is what they say about being carers for PetStay Norfolk:

“Kevin and I have had dogs all our married life, usually rescue ones! When our last little dog Monty, a jack Russell x Lakeland terrier, passed away, at the grand age of 17 years, we were devastated. We decided that we wouldn’t have another dog as we were both past retirement age and were afraid another dog would outlive us, plus the fact that losing all our dogs has been so painful each time.
When we saw the advertisement for PetStay it seemed that was a perfect way to get our “doggy fix” without the long term commitment of owning another dog, it has been brilliant, we have met some wonderful people and wonderful dogs! We have repeat bookings so we get to see them on a regular basis which is very rewarding, if you are thinking about joining PetStay, they will give you all the support and information needed.”

Norfolk-Gerri & Mike

Gerri & Mike

Pictured here with one of my dogs, Mary, you see the lovely Gerri and Mike. They have been carers for PetStay Norfolk from the start. Gerri and Mike live in a detached house in a rural setting with a lovely large garden. They are very popular carers, with quite a few repeating customers and get booked up very quickly. They say this about being carers:

“We are carers for PetStay Norfolk and love doing it, making a fuss of the dogs and stroking them is very therapeutic.

Dogs just makes us smile more & feel happy, the nice people we meet who bring their dogs to us, are lovely. Also it’s such good exercise, dog walking. It’s amazing how many people we have met on our walks. Now we have retired it’s such a great thing to do.”

Sandra & Garry

Sandra & Garry

Please meet Sandra and Garry.

They live in a lovely house with a small but very secure walled-in garden in a lovely green area. Sandra and Garry are very dedicated to animals and used to medicating animals, having had/still owning cats with diabetes, Roscoe with only 3 legs. The two cats they still own are very chilled and used to dogs and Roscoe and Millie are very friendly and sweet. This is what Sandra and Garry say about being a carer for PetStay Norfolk:

Hi, we’re Garry and Sandra. We live in Attleborough with our two Bichons, Roscoe who is 5 and Millie, 2 and a half. We wouldn’t like to put our two into kennels when we go away and thought there must be many more people like us, so when we saw the opportunity to board dogs we thought this is something we would enjoy doing. So we signed up. We are at home all day and have plenty of time to give to your fur babies. We look forward to meeting you

Norfolk-Angeline & Stephen

Angeline & Stephen

Pictured here with his owner Angeline and Stephen is the lovely Sherlock. I will let Angeline introduce herself:

“We are Angeline and Stephen. We have a bichon frise called Sherlock. I am retired and Stephen works for the NHS as a support worker. Sherlock is 2.5 years old. He is playful and loves playing with his doggy pals. We live in a bungalow in a quiet estate in Sprowston, Norwich. Nearby we have Mousehold Heath, a very popular woods for dog walkers and an enclosed recreational park all within walking distance.”

Gwen

My name is Gwen, I live with my husband Paul in a small village not far from Dereham and Norwich. In my time I have had 20 Rescue dogs as well as cats, I worked for Wood Green Animal shelter for about 7 years and always brought kittens and puppies home who had lost um and dad until they were old enough to be rehomed. Then I moved on to the NHS working in a Doctor’s surgery as a phlebotomist for over 20 years.

Last year I lost my beloved Suzie, a King Charles spaniel, from heart failure at the age of eight and a half. We decided not to have more dogs due to the expense, but how I miss the company of dogs.

I saw on Facebook about PetStay, so I contacted Sophia. She came to see me, had a long talk and with just a few alterations to the garden, we were accepted and I got my licence from the council. We live in a bungalow with a, mainly paved, garden.

Since joining PetStay I have already had several boarders, most of them settled very quickly and we have had lovely time together with all of them.

Newsletter Winter 2017

Hello to all our lovely customers, both current and prospective,

The winter is well and truly here now, time for another update.

Our team of carers has now grown to a healthy 13 carers! We lost Julie as a carer as she is going back to the States for a while. Hopefully she will join us again after her return, as her customers will certainly miss her! We have also lost our weekend carer, Jane, who decided not to renew her license due to personal commitments.

Our team of lovely carers now exists of the following:

  • Gerri and Mike in Lower Southrepps who have been with PetStay from the start
  • Margaret and Kevin in Horsford who have also been with PetStay from the start
  • Sarah in Sprowston who owns a lovely calm Labrador
  • Hilda, Sarah’s mum, who lives on her own, also in Sprowston
  • Tanya and Lee in Hevingam who, due to working in education can’t have a dog of their own and so care for dogs in the school holidays
  • Sandra and Garry in Attleborough, who own two lovely little Bichon’s and 2 very calm cats
  • ngeline and Stephen, also from Sprowston and supported in their caring duties by Sherlock their Bichon
  • Kerry in Taverham doesn’t own a dog but is very used to the larger variety as she used to own a Pyrenean mountain dog
  • Adrian and Christine from Long Stratton, who are semi-retired and very experienced dog lovers. They currently don’t own a dog of their own.
  • Nicola, who lives in Attleborough and owns the lovely cheerful Labrador Autumn and used to foster guide dogs for the blind during their training.
  • Jessamy, who lives in Long Stratton and adores dogs. She doesn’t own her own dog however used to volunteer to walk the dogs at Hillside animal sanctuary.
  • And last but certainly not least: Marion, who is from Thorpe Marriott. Marion owns two cats, and to brush up on current dog training techniques, as she hasn’t owned a dog for some time, has been helping out at training classes in Companion Carer, in Pet’s at Home.

The North and West part of my area (King’s Lynn, Hunstanton, Downham market, Swaffham, Fakenham) are a bit of an issue at the moment. I have no carers in that area at all. We are working on that and it will be the focus of my attention in the new year.

In all honesty, the last few months have gone so fast, it seems only last month that I took over the business and I am genuinely loving the job! In January, currently reasonably quiet for my carers, I am going to run a first aid in dogs session for all the carers. We hope they never have to use it but it is always good to be prepared and a large part of the session will cover prevention so that will benefit every boarding dog.

We have had some really good feedback from customers, please find a few below. The rest you can find in the ‘reviews’ section on the website:

DaisyKaren Bunning, Norwich
December 2017

My dog, Daisy, was very happy to stay with the carer. I met the carer, Hilda, before the stay and we went through all the key and relevant information. The first meeting went really well. When we picked up my dog after her stay, I could tell she had been looked after well and had received care of the highest quality. We will definitely use Petstay again. Thanks.

November 2017

I spoke at length to Sophia at quite short notice about my dog who had never been to kennels or a strange dog sitter without his “ doggie brothers” . She was able to take on board all my concerns and place Fudge with an ideal person for him and he clearly had a super time as he wasn’t at all stressed or overly excited by our return. Can’t thank the joint efforts of Sophia for placing him and Julie for looking after him enough.

Andrew Wilson, Dereham

November 2017.

Facebook

We also have a Facebook page where we share some funny pictures, some important advice and from time to time run competitions. I invite you to have a look and see for yourself.

As some of you are aware, we have recently run a competition on Facebook, you were to share a picture of your dog, the share and like our page and get as many people as you could to like your dog’s picture. The one with the most likes won a gift box (see the main website if you are interested in purchasing one), There were 3 groups: small, medium and large.

Facebook Competition

We have advertised in numerous magazines: East Life, Live Life, Let’s talk, Village voice, South East Times, The Pet Care Guide, East Coast Recorder, Pet and Animal Directory on line, Pet and Animal Directory paper copy. So you may have seen us there?

Before I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a paw-some new year, I would like to share some important wintry advice with you:

Please find below the advice the Dog Trust put out for dog owners:

Let your dog’s winter coat grow, and particularly if you have a puppy, short-haired or old dog, buy him a sensible winter coat – a high visibility coat will ensure your dog can be seen in the dark.

  1. Keep your dog on a lead if it is snowing heavily. Snow can be disorientating so he can easily become lost.
  2. Make sure your dog is wearing a collar and an ID tag and is microchipped. It is important to ensure your microchipping database is up to date with your address and contact details
  3. Make sure you wipe your dogs legs, feet and stomach when you come indoors after a snowy walk as the grit from the roads can irritate their feet.
  4. Never leave your dog in a car during extreme weather, hot or cold.
  5. Do not let your dog walk on frozen ponds – the ice may not be thick enough to take his weight.
  6. If your dog does fall through the ice never be tempted to go in after him. If possible encourage him to swim back to you and call the emergency services.
  7. Antifreeze is highly poisonous but tasty to dogs. Keep it well out of their reach and mop up any spills!

https://www.dogstrust.org.uk/…/advice…/winter-weather-advice

Then it just leaves me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and prosperous new year and don’t forget to keep that chocolate and those raisins away from your boarders!  Remember:

News 2017

Hello to all our customers, their four legged friends and the brilliant carers

The summer is well and truly over and what a wonderful summer it has been. Our team of carers has grown to a healthy 11 carers! We lost Ann-Marie as a carer over the summer which was a real shame as she was a brilliant carer. We gained and lost Karen and John which was also sad but Jasmine, their own pooch, really didn’t enjoy all the dogs and it does need to be enjoyable for all involved. The team of lovely carers now exists of the following:
Gerri and Mike in Lower Southrepps who have been with PetStay from the start,
Margaret and Kevin in Horsford who have also been with PetStay from the start,
Jane in Wymondham, who is our only ‘weekend only’ carer,
Sarah in Sprowston who owns a lovely calm Labrador,
Hilda, Sarah’s mum, who lives on her own, also in Sprowston,Norfolk-All about dogs 2
Tanya and Lee in Hevingam who, due to working in education can’t have a dog of their own and so care for dogs in the school holidays,
Sandra and Garry in Attleborough, who own two lovely little Bichon’s and 2 very calm cats,
Julie, who lives in Dereham and used to work with rescue dogs in the USA,
Angeline and Stephen, also from Sprowston and supported in their caring duties by Sherlock their Bichon,
Kerry in Taverham doesn’t own a dog but is very used to the larger variety as she used to own a Pyrenean mountain dog,
and last but definitely not least, Adrian and Christine from Long Stratton, who are semi-retired and very experienced dog lovers. They currently don’t own a dog of their own. Please visit the ‘meet the carers’ section on the website to meet some of the above carers.

We went to the All About Dogs show where we met lots and lots of lovely dogs and their owners. Some existing customers with their dogs and lots of potentially new customers and their dogs. We also had quite a bit of interest of people wanting to become one of our carers, even some people from the King’s Lyn area in which we desperately still need carers! Fingers crossed!

Norfolk-Allabout dogs 3

I participated in a Dog First Aid course as it is always good to update your knowledge and I am hoping to set up a first aid session for all our carers and wanted to ensure I was giving them the most up to date information. I am hoping to set that up soon.
I have really enjoyed the first (nearly) 6 months of running PetStay Norfolk, have met some wonderful people and dogs and certainly hope to continue doing so for many years to come. It is great to read the reviews our customers write (see the ‘reviews’ section on the webpage) about their dogs’ stay with our carers.
The Facebook page is also up and running, I am enjoying the interaction that takes place. Especially the ‘guess the breed’ posts appear to be getting a lot of reactions 😊
Currently we are already taking bookings for next summer so please book early to avoid disappointment especially if you want a particular carer!
Please feel free to call me or e-mail me if you would like to know more abNorfolk-All About dogs 4out our service or if you would like to join our team of fantastic PetStay carers!

News

Hello to all our customers, their four legged friends and the brilliant carers

It has been a busy few weeks. I took over the franchise at the end of March, we are now about 2 months later and things are going well. We have had lots of regular customers booking their lovely dogs in with their ‘own’ carer, but also new customers who, initially nervously, met with the carers that we picked for them and after realizing that their dogs would be very well cared for and even pampered while they went away, left the dogs in the carers’ capable hands.
We have been so busy that it was clear I needed to actively look for more carers and so I did. Several adverts on Facebook, leaflets in shops, vets, dog walking areas, an advert in the WI Gazette and signage on my van (see pictures) have already been very effective.

Norfolk-News

We have welcomed several more carers in our team: Sarah (Thorpe St Andrews), Hilda (Sprowston), Sandra and Garry (Attleborough) and Ann-Marie (Great Yarmouth). Two more sets of carers (Hevingham and Spixworth) are currently waiting for their licences and once they are approved they will be raring to go as well.
I am still interviewing carers at the moment so, watch this space, there will be new additions soon, I’m sure. If you are interested, or you know someone who might be interested in becoming one of our carers, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
We will soon add a ‘meet the carers’ section to our site so please do visit again soon.

Kind regards,
Sophia Guymer MRCVS with SeamusNorfolk-Sophia

News

PetStay Norfolk will be attending the All About Dogs Show at The Norfolk Showground on 28th and 29th August 2016.
