Hello my name is Sophia and I am very excited about welcoming you to PetStay Norfolk. We offer five-star pet sitting, giving your dog a home-from-home stay and providing you with peace of mind while you’re away.
Ever since watching James Herriot on the tv and reading all his books, I have wanted to be a vet. After graduating as a veterinary surgeon and working as a vet for a few years I started a family with my husband and found I couldn’t really combine being a vet with family life.
I started teaching Animal Management at the local college and achieved my teaching degree after 2 years. This was a great combination, I still had a job where I could take my dog to work (Seamus, on the picture, still loves coming to every lesson and the students love him) but when the children were off school, I was home as well. After teaching for about 7 years, it was time for a change. I was looking for a job where I could combine my love for dogs with my organisational skills and when I saw that PetStay Norfolk was available, I jumped at the chance to take it on and I haven’t looked back!
Why home boarding?
Having fostered dogs for a few years, I know how dogs change when they are in kennels and how they improve when they come out of kennels into a loving family home. Having always had rescue dogs, I have never put any of them in kennels when I went on holiday, but at times it was hard to find alternatives. We usually book Seamus’ holiday before we book our own! Home boarding is the perfect solution to make sure that both dog(s) and owner are happy and at PetStay we make sure that all our carers are perfectly suited to the dog’s needs.
Why PetStay Norfolk?
With PetStay Norfolk you can be assured that your dog will be in the most comfortable environment and well looked after by one of our carefully considered and handpicked carers. It is very important to me that I match your dog and the carer accordingly to ensure they are both right for each other. Most importantly I make sure that the carer can adapt to the dog’s daily routine, rather than the other way around. My carers are the most reliable and trustworthy in the area and meet stringent criteria in line with local council home boarding licence requirements, they are all insured and interviewed in their own homes.
So if you are looking for a caring holiday home for your four-legged family member with people that adore dogs, are fully vetted and insured, are matched to the requirements of your dog, who will give them all their usual home comforts and routine whilst you are away and are with a company that is licensed by the local council, then phone me using the numbers below for a warm and friendly chat or write to me using the email address.
Before you then choose to book with PetStay, I will take great care to get to know you and your dog(s), taking full details of your dog(s) so that I can match them with the perfect carer. I will then arrange a ‘meet and greet’ for you, your dog and the carer in the carer’s home, with no obligation. After meeting the carer, and when you are completely happy with the match, I will organise the booking.
We do get incredibly busy during school holidays and in the summer months so make sure you call us and arrange your dog care as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you and providing the very best home boarding that Norfolk has to offer.

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a PetStay Carer
What are the requirements of becoming a carer?
You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs and you need to be home during the day so you have plenty of time to give to the dogs you are caring for. You must have a secure garden and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have a dog of your own as long as your dog gets on with other dogs.
How are your carers vetted?
If you meet all the requirements listed above, we will come and visit you at your home. We will check the security of the garden, explain PetStay procedures and show you the guidelines each carer needs to follow. If you are happy with everything and we feel you would make a suitable PetStay carer, we would follow up a reference and arrange public liability insurance for you.
How many dogs can I look after?
Our service is on a one-to-one basis, so only dogs from the same household will stay with you. You are allowed to take up to three dogs from the same household, BUT you choose what you are happy with. We will ask you how many dogs you would like to look after and what sized dog/s you would be happy to care for.
Do I have to provide the food?
No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Any toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.
Does the dog/s have to be vaccinated?
Yes each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, have been wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of the vaccinations will be brought to the meeting and shown to you.
What about walking the dogs?
All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. When you have your meeting with the owners all routines, including the number and length of walks, will be discussed. The dog is only ever walked on a lead.
What if the dog becomes ill?
We/you would endeavour to contact the owner or the emergency contact. The owner or the emergency contact would be liable for any expenses incurred in taking the dog to the vet.
Will I be paid?
You will receive a daily allowance starting from £13.00 per day.
What happens next?

Uri and Nula
Once again Uri and Nula had a wonderful time with Arthur and Janet. It is lovely to go away and know they are in such good hands. Arthur and Janet sent us regular updates, so we knew they were OK. Arthur and Janet are such lovely people and would highly recommend them.
Our experience with PetStay could not have gone better. We were unbelievably nervous about leaving our boy for the first time since having him but Dee & Fred made us feel so relaxed and happy that Arlo would be in their trustworthy hands. Arlo had a great time too with lots of new adventurous fun walks and was even relaxed enough to make himself comfortable sleeping upside down on Dee & Fred’s sofa! We will 100% be returning to PetStay for future short stays.
This was our first time using PetStay and we were extremely happy with the experience. Our 5 year old Beagle Humphrey was matched with Adrian. We took Humphrey to meet Adrian the week before the stay, when we took him back to drop him off he practically dragged me up the path! Adrian text me updates and photos throughout the stay, so I knew Humphrey was happy and well cared for. We were so happy with everything, we have already booked another weeks stay for Humphrey with Adrian, in a few months time. I definitely recommend PetStay and Adrian in particular to anyone.
Thank you to Carolyn for making Bob’s first stay away from home a great experience. Bob is a rescue dog so we were worried about how he might manage away from home. We had a visit with Carolyn and good communication before and during his stay which really helped us to feel reassured he was being well looked after. I will definitely be booking another stay with Carolyn
Bella, our 12 (almost 13) year old golden retriever isn’t as active as she used to be and is rather set in her ways, but she loves going to her PetStay homes. This time she started out with Don and Jenefer in West Lynn and made herself at home immediately. I think she remembered the nice walks (the muddier the better as far as she is concerned) but luckily Don and Jenefer took all that in their stride, as well as her obstinate ways (like refusing to move when she thought the walk should take a different direction)
D&J went the extra mile, like all the PetStay carers we have met, and even dropped Bella with her next carer, Eleta. The move went like clockwork, and she settled in with Eleta without a care (or a thought for us!).
Despite the need to share her time between carers, we were able to go away without a worry and know that she was in the best of care at both her holiday homes.
Hello. My name is Beryl I am an 18 month old Jack Russell cross. When my doggy Mum and Dad decided to go on holiday we were worried about where I would stay. Fortunately we found Mary’s family through PetStay. They were all very kind and caring, and made me feel at home with plenty of cuddles and adventures. They took great care of me. When my Mum and Dad go away again I really look forward to staying with Mary and her lovely family again. My Dad said that Mary’s Mum, Sophia, was very good with a professional and reassuring approach which gave peace of mind. So, we have no hesitation in recommending PetStay to any of my doggy friends and their families.
This was the first time we’ve used a home boarding service & it was very successful! Sophia was very helpful & sorted out just the right carers for Stokes. Our pre-meeting with Jenefer & Don went well: they are obviously experienced dog owners & really put us at ease. When leaving Stokes we were still anxious but Jenefer sent photos & updates that evening of him settling in which was very reassuring! We’d definitely recommend PetStay Norfolk: so much more homely than boarding kennels. Thank you!
First time using PetStay and would definitely use again if a situation arose where I couldn’t take Terrance with us. This was the first time we had left Terrance with anyone since adopting him 18 months ago, so I was very anxious about finding the right carer. Carolyn put all my worries to rest as soon as I met her. She is very experienced with Staffies and used to the breed characteristics. Carolyn provided lots of photos and updates which gave me great piece of mind and allowed me to enjoy my time away with my family. Would highly recommend PetStay and especially Carolyn
Jasper and Alfie
This was the second time our two dogs have stayed with Janet and Arthur who are very kind and caring. They went to a lot of trouble to look after our very elderly Spaniel who needed medication and a lot of attention. Janet and Arthur sent us updates and photos and we were very reassured that our precious family members were being so well cared for. Thank you once again!
Geri and Mike were fantastic hosts to our young cocker spaniel, Edie. She seemed very happy and they gave her plenty of walks and cuddles. We have booked Edie for another stay in January.
We felt very happy to leave our dogs, Toddy and Rufus, with Don and Jenefer. They are clearly animal lovers. During the stay they kept us up to date with Toddy & Rufus’s activities from daily walks to chilling out on the sofa – a true home from home for them. The booking process with PetStay was very thorough and efficient. We have no hesitation in booking with them again and highly recommend Don and Jenefer as surrogate owners.
Desmond enjoyed another happy stay with Sophia and her family while we were on our first holiday abroad for ages in Sept 2021. Our trip got off to a bad start when we blew a tyre on our way to Sophia’s house before heading to the airport. When it became clear our car would need to be towed to a garage for repairs and we had to book a taxi to the airport, Sophia helped save the day by driving about an hour each way to pick up Desmond while we waited for our car to be towed. During our 2-week trip, Sophia sent daily messages and photos/videos of Desi playing and enjoying his walks. He needs eye drops each morning, and Sophia administered these without difficulty. Desi has stayed with Sophia around 4 or 5 times now and is right at home sleeping on her son’s bed and playing with their dog Mary. We know Desmond is in very capable and caring hands when he stays with Sophia and we happily recommend her services.
We have used the services of PetStay a couple of times now and have been delighted with the experience. We are particularly careful as to whom we leave our loved companion, Otto, and assiduous in determining the appropriateness of any organisation that cares for our little dog. PetStay score highly on all counts : the administration has been straightforward, effective and efficient. The hosts are wonderful people: caring, considerate, helpful and, above all, dog lovers. They quickly understand the needs of our dog, his nuances and predilections and make him a part of their family. He always appears relaxed, comfortable and safe to be ‘on holiday’. We can take vacations confident in the knowledge that Otto is lovingly well looked-after. No hesitation in recommending our hosts and PetStay.
I could go on my holiday, with complete confidence that the most important member of the family was being cared for by lovely people giving a first class service. Maintaining contact with a photo some days was reassuring Thank you so much Janet and Arthur.
My name is Nancy I am still little but I am full of it my Mummy says ! My Mummy and Daddy took me to stay with Lyndsey and Mike whilst they had to have some things done at home. They were worried about leaving me I wasn’t ! I knew straight away I was going to love being on my holidays with Auntie Lyndsey and Uncle Mike. It’s great there, they are great fun and love me lots already and there’s lots of new toys for me to play with. I was so excited when we went for a walk that I didn’t even need to go in the car to get to the beach – it was only a little walk down the road ! We had great fun. I helped out in the garden and as it was really hot Auntie Lyndsey let me have a shower with the hose pipe which I love.
At bedtime I could sleep where I wanted but I thought Auntie Lyndsey and Uncle Mike might miss me so I kept them company on their bed and it was so comfy!
I loved my holiday at my second home and I can’t wait to go back, Mummy and Daddy don’t need to worry because it’s fabulous there and they spoil me lots.
Lots of love
Ralph and Valerie treated our dog like a King! True home from home experience. Our dog had so many fun walks and lots of attention. We had regular pupdates which we really appreciated. We will always use PetStay as they are a professional company with kind, dog loving carers. Thank you Ralph and Valerie for going the extra mile when looking after our pet! You were both brilliant!!
We have an 18 Month Italian Spinone called Augie. He’s a gentle giant and a bit of a handful. We had a couple of holidays planned and I wanted to find a caring home environment which would suit his character as he is a very sociable dog and likes to be around people and other animals. Spencer and his family and their dog Oreo were absolutely wonderful. He did a short stay at first to see how it would go. Spencer and family couldn’t do enough for him. They followed the daily routine he has already for walking, feeding and sleeping and he was so content when I picked him up I don’t think he wanted to come home! He then did a second longer stay and I was so impressed by the outcome of the first visit I knew I didn’t have to worry at all and I was right. For me and Augie, Pet stay has just the right balance of professionalism within a caring family environment and I fully recommend Spencer at Petstay to anyone.
Vanessa & Chris Bandy, Norwich
We have used PetStay since our boys were puppies. They are 4 now and have had many very happy holidays with the most wonderful carers. We would not leave them anywhere else.
We are delighted with how they sorted out just the right sitter for our dogs and the dogs were obviously very content and happy staying with Carolyn. One of our dogs gets chest infections and it really helps to feel confident with their sitter who is obviously experienced and could deal with any issues if they arose. The daily updates and photos made us feel at ease about being away from them. When we arrived to pick them up we were met by two very relaxed obviously happy dogs always a good sign.
Ali and Sandy
Our three dogs had a lovely break with Gerri and Mike. They have stayed with them previously and so were very excited when we took them there again! They enjoyed familiar walks, playing in their large garden and then chilling out and relaxing on the sofa afterwards. Our Vizsla acted as look out at the front of their house and the Dachshunds chased each other around – just as they do at home – so the dogs had their normal routine. We would thoroughly recommend PetStay as a much more homely experience than boarding kennels.
Our dog Charlie took to Amy straight away and we had no problem leaving him there. Amy kept us up to date with messages and pictures. Although we missed our dog he was having a fantastic time with Amy who we had complete confidence in . We try and take Charlie with us when we go away but l would have no problem leaving him with Amy again PetStay are a very professional company and this is reflected by the people who they use.
Great experience for both ourselves and our Labrador, Harley. He was made to feel at home and seemed to love every minute. We were actually concerned that he may not want to come back home with us. We can’t recommend this service highly enough. The sitters Gerri and Mike are wonderful people and so caring. We wouldn’t want Harley to go anywhere else
Sid & Don
From the very start Sophia at PetStay was very helpful in finding us dog care with Don & Jennifer for our Sid the Jack. Don & Jennifer were very knowledgeable on dog care and have dogs of their own in the past. Sid was walked twice a day with a every evening WhatsApp, picture and chat. Would defo recommend PetStay to our friends and family, thank you Sophia and to Don & Jennifer
I was very worried about going on holiday and leaving my little rescue dog Lulu. Would she think I had abandoned her ? Well I didn’t need to worry. I met Jessamy at her home and Lulu made herself at home straight away. Then came the day when I was going away. Jessamy was lovely, Lulu clearly loved her and didn’t seem worried when I left. I received some updates about Lulu. When I picked her up, she was very calm, totally unstressed. I shall certainly go on holiday again and leave her with Jessamy. Thank you PetStay xx
Right from the first contact with PetStay you felt confident that your dog was going to be in good hands. There was a lot of paperwork to complete but better that than none at all! Our initial visit with Eleta was a great success. She just let Monty (our Border Terrier) wander around and relax, there was no fussing. When we dropped him off he was happy to go into the house and I know he had an enjoyable time whilst he was there as there was a lovely park right on her doorstep. He was almost reluctant to come home!!
Another successful dog-cation for my two woofers. Jessamy really is their second mum, she is totally dedicated to looking after them with our last trip being no exception. They even had her up in the night a couple of times and she just takes it in her stride. We feel very lucky (and grateful) to have someone we trust so much to look after them and our holidays are all planned around when she is available! Thanks again Jessamy (and PetStay) for giving us peace of mind that our fur-babies are happy and well looked after when we go away.
Janet & Arthur were excellent. We were very anxious at the thought of leaving Barney our 8 year old Goldendoodle with anyone, however from the initial ‘pre-stay’ meeting it was clear that Janet & Arthur love dogs and that Barney would be well taken care of and pampered. We were kept updated via messages and pictures. Would not hesitate to recommend Janet & Arthur.
Baxi had a wonderful stay with Sylvia and completely fell in love with her. Couldn’t ask for better stay for my little best friend.
PetStay is an excellent choice if you want to have your beloved pet cared for within a home environment whilst you enjoy your holiday. We were very impressed with the level of detail and information gathering to find the right ‘host’ which shows a level of understanding of meeting the needs of your pet as well as the owner’s. Whilst we were away, we received daily updates on how our dog was doing, how he was settling in and most definitely being spoilt rotten. These regular updates really helped us to know that all was well and we could relax knowing that things were all fine. Would recommend PetStay without hesitation.
Barney had an amazing time with Jennifer and Don. He was very relaxed from the moment he arrived. They are such lovely, kind hearted people who made us feel very happy and reassured. We had contact everyday we were away, which was amazing and that made our holiday a lot more enjoyable knowing Barney was happy and safe. Will definitely be using them again if they are available.
Dougie & Asley
From our initial enquiry to picking our dog up at the end of our holiday the service was professional, friendly and simply excellent! Sophia reassured us by answering all questions at the start and after meeting Alison and knowing she was looking after our dog, it put our minds instantly at ease. Alison was so lovely. We had regular updates and photos, we knew our dog was being well looked after and loved! We have already booked Dougie in again with PetStay.
PetStay rescued us when we had a problem finding care for our two small Maltese dogs, (they would usually stay with my recently deceased Sister). With the opportunity to spend a week with our Daughter in their rebooked holiday cottage (no pets) we desperately needed a home from home for our kids. PetStay introduced us to a lovely lady who told us they could have stayed forever, everyone, including the kids were very happy with the arrangement. A holiday for all.
Janet & Arthur looked after our 3.5 year old Labrador – they are totally trustworthy and clearly adore dogs. Mac had a lovely time with them and we were confident that he was well looked after and loved. We highly recommend them and PetStay.
Scout & Cassie
Our first experience with PetStay has been a really good one. Sophia was very efficient and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and our visit and then the dogs’ stay were really well organised.
Our carer, Amy, was lovely, and most importantly, the dogs seemed relaxed and happy with her from the moment they met.
We felt quite happy leaving the dogs, confident that they would be looked after, and when we returned they seemed happy. We will definitely be using PetStay again. Our thanks to Sophia and Amy!
Eddie our retired racing greyhound stayed with Martin and Carolyn for four nights in July 2021. I was anxious about leaving him because he has become so clingy since I’ve been working from home but the carers assured me he would not be left alone and would have the run of the bungalow and garden to play and relax in. The carers made such an effort to keep up with his normal routine and were very flexible and accommodating. Carolyn sent me updates and pictures of Eddie on Whatsapp throughout his stay which was lovely. We didn’t have to worry about if he was settled or relaxed because the pictures and updates showed that he was having a lovely time! I wouldn’t hesitate to leave Eddie with Martin and Carolyn again, in fact we have already booked for next March!
Uri & Nula
Uri and Nula had a wonderful few days with Arthur and Janet. We were very happy with the way they were looked after which gave us piece of mind.Arthur and Janet are such lovely people and the care of the dogs always comes first
Sophia and her family (PetStay Norfolk) took care of my darling dog, Jimín, on his arrival in the UK. Sophia went above and beyond to accommodate me as I was moving country. I got regular photo and video updates from her. Safe to say Jimín loved his time with her family, who really treated him like their own.
Their set up is wonderful, they have a lovely big garden and plenty of space for the dogs to relax or play.
I will definitely be using their services again should Jimín fancy another holiday!
I cannot recommend PetStay highly enough. I was very anxious about finding the right care for my anxious rescue dog while I was on holiday. Through PetStay I was guided towards a carer who would suitable and was so delighted to have Titch placed with Jessamy. Right from the start she was warm, gentle and understanding of my dog’s quirks and needs. He went to stay for a short trial at first and it was such a success that I have booked Titch to stay with Jessamy twice more and will continue to do so. Jessamy sent pictures through of a very relaxed and happy dog which I found to be so comforting and reassuring. I now feel entirely comfortable and able to relax and enjoy my holiday knowing that Titch is so well cared for. Thank goodness for PetStay and Jessamy!
Our dog Mab had a lovely stay with Carolyn and Martin in July this year. Mab settled really well and seemed very happy and spoiled. Carolyn and Martin updated us everyday with a photo and message to give us peace of mind. They were friendly and helpful – would definitely recommend!
Brilliant service as ever from Julie and Sophia at PetStay Norfolk. Otis has been to stay with Julie several times now and always seems happier to be going there rather than leaving with us afterwards! Kept fully up to date with his walks and activities and often mischief. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area, beats a kennel everyday. Dogs deserve holidays too
Jessamy had our dog Winston whilst we were away for a week, she is fantastic, we met with her prior to the holiday so she could meet myself and Winston and he could meet her and get used to her home, she was so welcoming and accommodating and made every effort to ensure that Winston’s routine was kept to make it as comfortable for him as possible. He really settled in well with her and it was really reassuring to leave him without the need to worry knowing he was in very capable hands! I would definitely recommend Jessamy and Petstay Norfolk to anyone for their pets as it gives you peace of mind knowing someone is caring for them so well. Thank you!
Benji & Diesal
Sophia was extremely helpful and prompt. We were able to arrange two stays for our dogs, this stay was at quite short notice. When we go away we like our boys to also have a holiday and they very definitely did with Mike and Gerri. It was very obvious they were taken by the boys and I knew it would make for a lovely weekend being spoiled by Mike and Gerri. I look forward to the next time I get to drop the boys off.
Absolutely brilliant service, right from the start. PetStay asked all the questions to try and find the best people to look after Fergus whilst we were away. They were really professional and I felt very comfortable and at ease. Lindsay and Mike were fantastic, they made me feel at home straightaway and took care of Fergus as if he was their own, really lovely people, I couldn’t have asked for anything more! Fergus had a great time and I will definitely be using them again and would recommend their service to other dog owners! Thanks for a great experience
Jessie recently stayed with Margaret and Kevin. We couldn’t wish for more wonderful carers. Jessie is a very nervous and anxious dog but now she literally runs to see them when we arrive. She is happy and relaxed and they are perfect for her.

Please meet some of our PetStay carers:
Hello, I’m Amy and that beautiful girl with me in the photo is Bonny. She was the apple of my eye and very sadly passed away in 2019 leaving a significant void in my world.
I have been around dogs all my life and fortunate enough to work in veterinary practices for a few years, meeting (and fussing) all kinds of dogs – giant to tiny, fluffy to bald, happy to – well, less happy – they’re at the vets after all!
I now work from home in King’s Lynn and I am very much missing canine companionship which is why becoming a PetStay carer is the perfect solution for me.
I have a large, secure garden and lots of indoor space for cuddling, playing and snoozing. There is a huge dog friendly park a two minute walk away, ideal for both quick and lengthy walks.
I am happy to stick to the routines you have established with your dog and will treat him/her as if they were my own. I understand that your dog is part of your family and you may be worried to leave them – I am very happy to provide owners with regular updates and photos for peace of mind.
I think PetStay is a brilliant alternative to kennels as both you and your pooch get to have a lovely holiday!
Lindsey & Mike
Hi there , We are Lindsey and Mike and are both retired , we live in Caister about a five minute walk from the beach .We have always had dogs and we love them with a passion but after we lost our last boy we decided that as we had lots of time on our hands that we could foster or help at one of our local dog rescues until we were steered towards PetStay and have never looked back ! We love looking after our dog boarders and treat them like our own , we keep them to their own home routine as much as possible and always try to make their stay as happy and settled as possible as we know how hard it is to leave a beloved pet when you go away .Our garden is very secure and dog friendly and we have some lovely walks here in caister especially the beach ! We welcome all pooches big or small ..we love them all ! If you need any other information please contact Sophia as shes is very supportive ( with all of us too !) and will guide you through the process .
Thank you Lindsey and Mike
Janet & Arthur
Hi, we are Janet and Arthur, we live in the lovely village of Colkirk which is two miles from Fakenham. We, like most of our compatriots have had dogs all of our lives, until we lost our lovely old Lab, Busby. When he went we decided that we wouldn’t own another dog but would put our lives into looking after other people’s dogs whilst they are on holiday, hence Sophia and PetStay. We live in a bungalow with a large fully enclosed garden which our previous doggy guests have loved. We love all makes, shapes and sizes of dogs and look forward to all of our canine guests.
Susan & Ash
Hi, I’m Susan and I live 10 minutes walk from the beach. I live with my retired greyhound Ash, who I adopted in 2015. He has just turned 10. Until several years ago I worked in an office. I now work for myself, part time and usually from home, which means I can be at home most of the day. I live in town and have a medium sized, fully enclosed, back garden, ideal for dogs. I am very new to PetStay and have just had my second boarder for three days. The two dogs I have had so far, have got on fine with Ash. I love the idea that owners can leave their dog in someone else’s home, and I hope it’s a home from home for them. PetStay offers flexibility (there is no obligation to take a booking) and support.
I’m not a native to Norfolk but when I moved here with my late husband and two daughters, we all loved it. That was back in 1983 and I’ve still no desire to live anywhere else.
I’m very lucky to be able to live in a nice house with a reasonable sized garden, which is fully enclosed, and, live on the very edge of North Wootton Park. There is also the added benefit of living five miles away from Sandringham Country park and fifteen miles from the beach. For a dog loving person, it doesn’t get any better than that!
The reason I became a carer was that my beautiful and best friend Molly died at the age of fourteen. That was February 2018. I became a carer for Petstay in April of that year as I missed my walks, cuddles and greetings when I returned home. I didn’t feel I could replace Molly, I still can’t, but I need to feel a dog’s presence. Working with Petstay has worked out amazingly well. I have looked after a good number now and I love having them! I feel so lucky to be able to do this. The great thing is I can fit it around my life style and have dogs when it is convenient for me – I have the best of both worlds.
So, if you’re looking for a loving home to care for your dog (s) please contact Petstay and speak to Sophia and see if we are able to help.
Kerry & Bryan
Hi we are Kerry and Bryan. We moved to Martham 2years ago and always had dogs ourselves, normally German Shepherds but since joining Petstay in May have had a variety of lovely dogs. We have a large fully enclosed garden and have some great farm walks within the village. The nearest beaches are only 5 minutes away in the car which, with the owners permission, we walk them along. We treat each dog as if it were our own, sofas and our bed also very popular with a lot of our boarders. Petstay gives us the opportunity to have the best of both worlds as we love dogs as well as our holidays.
Carolyn & Martin
Carolyn and Martin live in Wymondham, in a small bungalow with a secure garden.
Martin has retired from teaching and Carolyn used to be a childminder.
‘We have had dogs of our own in the past and other pets also. In 2018 we joined PetStay and since then we have really enjoyed looking after the different breeds that have come to stay with us. Repeat visitors have meant we have got to know the dogs well, and their personalities!
We aim to provide a safe, caring, home from home for the dogs. We follow the dogs individual routine and have some lovely, local walks to enjoy too.
We keep in touch with the owners through regular photos on WhatsApp and by text. ‘’
Hi my name is Carolyn and I have recently (May 2018) joined PetStay. I grew up with dogs, cats and horses and have always wanted a dog of my own. My past jobs haven’t allowed this though due to lots of working away and abroad. Since changing my career I now have the time but I know the heartbreak of losing a pet would be too much for me. I love looking after my friends dogs while they’re away and when I saw the ad for PetStay I knew I’d found a great way of getting my doggy fix
I’ve just had my first customer to stay for a week and I’ve loved every second of him being here. I can’t wait to have more
Don with Bonnie
We have lived in West Norfolk for over thirty years and have owned various breeds of dogs, including an Old English Sheep Dog, a Cross Doberman Rottweiler and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
We live in a detached bungalow within a small village with plenty of walks nearby, including The Peter Scott Walk. Since Jenefer’s retirement and me being semi-retired we have joined PetStay and have had the pleasure of looking after and making friends with, some lovely dogs who have been great characters with their own personalities.
We are very mindful that a dog is part of a family, and they may worry about them while on their holidays, therefore we are happy to update the family and send photos, if wanted while the dog is in our care.
‘’We have been Petstay Carers now for two years in which time we have had a variety of dogs to stay, from Yorkshire Terriers to Basset Hound, Boxer, German Shepperd and Labradoodle, to name a few, all left as friends welcome to return.’’
I am Julie and am located 5 mins from Gorleston beach, I have lived with rescue dogs all my life: a random assortment of breeds including GSD, Border Collie, Cocker, Irish Setters, lurcher, English Sheepdog, Dobermann.
I have also walked for the Cinnamon Trust & fostered difficult dogs for national rescues.
The issues I’ve encountered (inc aggression, separation anxiety, resource guarding, BOAS, puppy farming) inspired me to study further, and gain a level 4 qualification in Advanced Canine Behaviour.
While I was thinking about taking a break from fostering, a Petstay ad popped up on my Facebook feed, and I couldn’t resist.
All my boarders have been adorable, and they’ve really enjoyed staying with my own 2 dogs, and my grey parrot, who is careless of data laws, has been calling the boarders by name.
Nicola,Brian, Lily & Autumn
My name is Nicola. I live in Attleborough with my husband Brian and my daughter Lily aged 9. We have a Labrador called Autumn who is very friendly and loves a friend to play with.
I have had dogs all my life. Up until recently I have looked after guide dogs during their last 3 months of training just before they are matched to their prospective owner.
They all loved staying with us and some used to hide up when the trainer came to collect them!
I absolutely adore dogs, they make life feel complete.
Due to my husband’s change of work I was fortunate enough to leave my part time job and look after dogs. This is something I have dreamt of doing for a long time.
I totally understand how difficult it is to leave your dog and assure you we look after them like our own and ensure they are happy and relaxed.”
Jessamy lives in a small but lovely end terraced house in an area with some lovely walks. She has a small, very secure garden. This is what Jessamy says about herself:
I was bought up with dogs, had my own and always knew they would be a large part of my life. Since I moved to Norfolk in 2016 I have volunteered as a dog walker for a rescue centre – which I now try to fit in when I can – around being a pet Carer which I absolutely love. I’ve done a couple of Kennel Club approved courses and am going to be starting a pet behaviour course in 2018. Can’t wait!
I am Marion – a retired lady living on my own in Thorpe Marriott which is just north of Norwich but surrounded by lovely countryside. I have now been a Carer with PetStay Norfolk for over two years and that has completely changed my life! I have had pets all my life and the last dog I had was a Doberman quite a few years ago but currently have no pets of my own. It is lovely having dogs in my life as I find them very therapeutic and helpful with keeping me busy and giving me love and cuddles! I love the idea of giving dogs their own lovely holiday and I always follow all their normal routines as much as I can.
Margaret & Kevin
The lovely Margaret and Kevin. Pictured here with 2 of their guests, Maisie and Jen. They live in a detached bungalow on the edge of a village with a lovely large garden. This is what they say about being carers for PetStay Norfolk:
“Kevin and I have had dogs all our married life, usually rescue ones! When our last little dog Monty, a jack Russell x Lakeland terrier, passed away, at the grand age of 17 years, we were devastated. We decided that we wouldn’t have another dog as we were both past retirement age and were afraid another dog would outlive us, plus the fact that losing all our dogs has been so painful each time.
When we saw the advertisement for PetStay it seemed that was a perfect way to get our “doggy fix” without the long term commitment of owning another dog, it has been brilliant, we have met some wonderful people and wonderful dogs! We have repeat bookings so we get to see them on a regular basis which is very rewarding, if you are thinking about joining PetStay, they will give you all the support and information needed.”
Gerri & Mike
Pictured here with one of my dogs, Mary, you see the lovely Gerri and Mike. They have been carers for PetStay Norfolk from the start. Gerri and Mike live in a detached house in a rural setting with a lovely large garden. They are very popular carers, with quite a few repeating customers and get booked up very quickly. They say this about being carers:
“We are carers for PetStay Norfolk and love doing it, making a fuss of the dogs and stroking them is very therapeutic.
Dogs just makes us smile more & feel happy, the nice people we meet who bring their dogs to us, are lovely. Also it’s such good exercise, dog walking. It’s amazing how many people we have met on our walks. Now we have retired it’s such a great thing to do.”
Newsletter Winter/Spring 2019
A warm welcome to our lovely customers, both current and prospective,
I realize it has been a long time since the last update and so this one is well overdue.
A lot has gone on in the background, however.
Quick overview of 2018:
We have had a brilliant year. We saw many of our customers and their lovely dogs at the shows that we went to, The All About Dogs Show and The Norfolk Festive Gift and Food Show. We do so love meeting all the voices on the other end of the phone , and having ‘’cuddles’’ with the dogs.
Once again we had some totally lovely feedback from customers, please find a few below. The rest you can find in the ‘reviews’ section on the website.
Elizabeth, January 2018
Holly is a 7 year old Terrier Cross who has never faired well in kennels so when I saw an advert for PetStay this looked like a perfect alternate. Jessamy was brilliant from the moment we first met to the time we picked up Holly 14 days later. The pictures we received whilst away were brilliant and I had no doubt that Holly was in a good pair of hands. We will definitely be using this service again!
Sheila, February 2018
This is the first time my dog Cara has stayed with PetStay. Following a very bad experience with a previous house sitter.
Garry and Sandra made myself and Cara very welcome. They were keen to get to know as much about her as possible. The regular photos were very reassuring.
When the time came to collect my dog she was completely happy and relaxed. I will certainly use PetStay again.
Annette, June 2018
‘Just to say how well Finn was looked after by Carolyn and Martin! He was so relaxed and settled in immediately!; She sent me regular text messages and some lovely photos!! I don’t think he was too bothered about coming home! The difference from when we picked him up last year from kennels to this time was amazing!! We would definitely like to use them again when we go away.’
The team of carers:
We now have a total of 17 carers! All as lovely as each other but each with their own qualities.
The following carers have been with us since 2017 (or earlier)
Gerri and Mike in Lower Southrepps who have been with PetStay from the start.
Margaret and Kevin in Horsford who have also been with PetStay from the start
Hilda, who lives on her own, also in Sprowston
Tanya and Lee in Hevingham who, due to working in education can’t have a dog of their own and so care for dogs in the school holidays
Sandra and Garry in Attleborough, who own two lovely little Bichon’s and 2 very calm cats
Kerry in Taverham doesn’t own a dog but is very used to the larger variety as she used to own a Pyrenean mountain dog
Nicola, who lives in Attleborough and owns the lovely cheerful Labrador Autumn and used to foster guide dogs for the blind during their training.
Jessamy, who lives in Long Stratton and adores dogs. She doesn’t own her own dog however used to volunteer to walk the dogs at Hillside animal sanctuary.
Marion, from Thorpe Marriott. Marion owns two cats.
The following carers are new since 2018 (and I am pleased to say we now also have carers in North/West Norfolk):
Gwen and Paul, a lovely couple from Lyng who live in a bungalow with a paved back garden. Gwen used to work for an animal rescue and has lots of experience with a range of dogs
Julie from Gorleston, lives in a lovely corner house with her partner and their 2 French Bulldogs and Parrot. Julie used to foster dogs and also has a wealth of experience. Recently Julie has completed her level 4 in Animal Behaviour which of course also comes in very handy!
Carolyn and Martin who live in a small bungalow in Wymondham.
Carolyn from Gorleston lives in a lovely semi detached house with a garden with ‘fake grass’. Carolyn especially loves the bigger dogs.
Jenefer and Don in West Lynn, a lovely couple with a vast history of owning dogs and looking after relative’s dogs. They live in a bungalow with a small paved back yard, there are no worries of dogs not getting enough exercise however as they both love walking for miles and miles.
Eleta, from North Wootton, lives in a beautiful detached home in a quiet cul-de-sac with a nice garden and lovely walking areas nearby.
Joan in Hemsby lives in a large bungalow with a lovely back garden, also with ‘fake grass’. Joan owns two (very doggy savvy) cats who usually are out hunting in the dunes. Joan has had dogs all her live and has helped to foster dogs for a dog rescue in the past.
Our latest recruit (Sept 2018) is Susan who lives in Fakenham in a lovely small bungalow with quite a deep garden. Susan loves the company of dogs, has had dogs all her adult live but now is at a point in her live where owning a dog is not an option. Being a carer for us means she can still get her doggy fix without the massive commitment that owning a dog brings.
As you may have noticed, we have not taken on any carers for nearly 5 months. The main reason for this is that on the 1st October the new Animal Welfare (Animal Activities) regulations came into force and even though all our carers were already compliant to the new regulations, there were quite a few paperwork and financial issues to sort out.
I have had meetings with each district council where we have carers to get the new licences under the new regulations sorted. These now work with a star rating and I am pleased to say that we have been awarded a licence in all district councils. We are still awaiting a star rating for 1 council but so far, we have already achieved three 5 star ratings and two 4 star rating!
Now that is all sorted, I can focus my efforts again on getting more carers and I am currently already in discussion with a lovely lady who hopefully will also come on board as long as she passes the inspection. Watch this space.
The PetStay Blog
PetStay now have a blog as well that has some entertaining items and some very informative ones. If anyone has a particular item that they would like to see in our blog, please feel free to let me know and I will do my best email@example.com.
Newsletter Winter 2017
Hello to all our lovely customers, both current and prospective,
The winter is well and truly here now, time for another update.
Our team of carers has now grown to a healthy 13 carers! We lost Julie as a carer as she is going back to the States for a while. Hopefully she will join us again after her return, as her customers will certainly miss her! We have also lost our weekend carer, Jane, who decided not to renew her license due to personal commitments.
Our team of lovely carers now exists of the following:
- Gerri and Mike in Lower Southrepps who have been with PetStay from the start
- Margaret and Kevin in Horsford who have also been with PetStay from the start
- Sarah in Sprowston who owns a lovely calm Labrador
- Hilda, Sarah’s mum, who lives on her own, also in Sprowston
- Tanya and Lee in Hevingam who, due to working in education can’t have a dog of their own and so care for dogs in the school holidays
- Sandra and Garry in Attleborough, who own two lovely little Bichon’s and 2 very calm cats
- ngeline and Stephen, also from Sprowston and supported in their caring duties by Sherlock their Bichon
- Kerry in Taverham doesn’t own a dog but is very used to the larger variety as she used to own a Pyrenean mountain dog
- Adrian and Christine from Long Stratton, who are semi-retired and very experienced dog lovers. They currently don’t own a dog of their own.
- Nicola, who lives in Attleborough and owns the lovely cheerful Labrador Autumn and used to foster guide dogs for the blind during their training.
- Jessamy, who lives in Long Stratton and adores dogs. She doesn’t own her own dog however used to volunteer to walk the dogs at Hillside animal sanctuary.
- And last but certainly not least: Marion, who is from Thorpe Marriott. Marion owns two cats, and to brush up on current dog training techniques, as she hasn’t owned a dog for some time, has been helping out at training classes in Companion Carer, in Pet’s at Home.
The North and West part of my area (King’s Lynn, Hunstanton, Downham market, Swaffham, Fakenham) are a bit of an issue at the moment. I have no carers in that area at all. We are working on that and it will be the focus of my attention in the new year.
In all honesty, the last few months have gone so fast, it seems only last month that I took over the business and I am genuinely loving the job! In January, currently reasonably quiet for my carers, I am going to run a first aid in dogs session for all the carers. We hope they never have to use it but it is always good to be prepared and a large part of the session will cover prevention so that will benefit every boarding dog.
We have had some really good feedback from customers, please find a few below. The rest you can find in the ‘reviews’ section on the website:
Karen Bunning, Norwich
My dog, Daisy, was very happy to stay with the carer. I met the carer, Hilda, before the stay and we went through all the key and relevant information. The first meeting went really well. When we picked up my dog after her stay, I could tell she had been looked after well and had received care of the highest quality. We will definitely use Petstay again. Thanks.
Pat and Alan Powell, Carbrooke
I spoke at length to Sophia at quite short notice about my dog who had never been to kennels or a strange dog sitter without his “ doggie brothers” . She was able to take on board all my concerns and place Fudge with an ideal person for him and he clearly had a super time as he wasn’t at all stressed or overly excited by our return. Can’t thank the joint efforts of Sophia for placing him and Julie for looking after him enough.
Andrew Wilson, Dereham
November 2017. A fantastic a friendly service that stayed true to every promise and then some!
Our dog was introduced to the carer’s animals in an open and neutral space before being taken to the house to check the place out. We talked over every aspect of our animal’s medical and personal history as well as her behaviours. It felt as though our cared really wanted to make our dog part of the family.
During our time away, we received regular updates via WhatsApp showing our dog having a great time and being really well cared for.
All this for a price comparable to the cold, unfriendly kennels we’ve seen but felt uncomfortable using in the past.
Could not have been happier
We also have a Facebook page where we share some funny pictures, some important advice and from time to time run competitions. I invite you to have a look and see for yourself.
As some of you are aware, we have recently run a competition on Facebook, you were to share a picture of your dog, the share and like our page and get as many people as you could to like your dog’s picture. The one with the most likes won a gift box (see the main website if you are interested in purchasing one), There were 3 groups: small, medium and large.
We have advertised in numerous magazines: East Life, Live Life, Let’s talk, Village voice, South East Times, The Pet Care Guide, East Coast Recorder, Pet and Animal Directory on line, Pet and Animal Directory paper copy. So you may have seen us there?
Before I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a paw-some new year, I would like to share some important wintry advice with you:
Please find below the advice the Dog Trust put out for dog owners:
Let your dog’s winter coat grow, and particularly if you have a puppy, short-haired or old dog, buy him a sensible winter coat – a high visibility coat will ensure your dog can be seen in the dark.
- Keep your dog on a lead if it is snowing heavily. Snow can be disorientating so he can easily become lost.
- Make sure your dog is wearing a collar and an ID tag and is microchipped. It is important to ensure your microchipping database is up to date with your address and contact details
- Make sure you wipe your dogs legs, feet and stomach when you come indoors after a snowy walk as the grit from the roads can irritate their feet.
- Never leave your dog in a car during extreme weather, hot or cold.
- Do not let your dog walk on frozen ponds – the ice may not be thick enough to take his weight.
- If your dog does fall through the ice never be tempted to go in after him. If possible encourage him to swim back to you and call the emergency services.
- Antifreeze is highly poisonous but tasty to dogs. Keep it well out of their reach and mop up any spills!
Then it just leaves me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and prosperous new year and don’t forget to keep that chocolate and those raisins away from your boarders! Remember:
Hello to all our customers, their four legged friends and the brilliant carers
The summer is well and truly over and what a wonderful summer it has been. Our team of carers has grown to a healthy 11 carers! We lost Ann-Marie as a carer over the summer which was a real shame as she was a brilliant carer. We gained and lost Karen and John which was also sad but Jasmine, their own pooch, really didn’t enjoy all the dogs and it does need to be enjoyable for all involved. The team of lovely carers now exists of the following:
Gerri and Mike in Lower Southrepps who have been with PetStay from the start,
Margaret and Kevin in Horsford who have also been with PetStay from the start,
Jane in Wymondham, who is our only ‘weekend only’ carer,
Sarah in Sprowston who owns a lovely calm Labrador,
Hilda, Sarah’s mum, who lives on her own, also in Sprowston,
Tanya and Lee in Hevingam who, due to working in education can’t have a dog of their own and so care for dogs in the school holidays,
Sandra and Garry in Attleborough, who own two lovely little Bichon’s and 2 very calm cats,
Julie, who lives in Dereham and used to work with rescue dogs in the USA,
Angeline and Stephen, also from Sprowston and supported in their caring duties by Sherlock their Bichon,
Kerry in Taverham doesn’t own a dog but is very used to the larger variety as she used to own a Pyrenean mountain dog,
and last but definitely not least, Adrian and Christine from Long Stratton, who are semi-retired and very experienced dog lovers. They currently don’t own a dog of their own. Please visit the ‘meet the carers’ section on the website to meet some of the above carers.
We went to the All About Dogs show where we met lots and lots of lovely dogs and their owners. Some existing customers with their dogs and lots of potentially new customers and their dogs. We also had quite a bit of interest of people wanting to become one of our carers, even some people from the King’s Lyn area in which we desperately still need carers! Fingers crossed!
I participated in a Dog First Aid course as it is always good to update your knowledge and I am hoping to set up a first aid session for all our carers and wanted to ensure I was giving them the most up to date information. I am hoping to set that up soon.
I have really enjoyed the first (nearly) 6 months of running PetStay Norfolk, have met some wonderful people and dogs and certainly hope to continue doing so for many years to come. It is great to read the reviews our customers write (see the ‘reviews’ section on the webpage) about their dogs’ stay with our carers.
The Facebook page is also up and running, I am enjoying the interaction that takes place. Especially the ‘guess the breed’ posts appear to be getting a lot of reactions
Currently we are already taking bookings for next summer so please book early to avoid disappointment especially if you want a particular carer!
Please feel free to call me or e-mail me if you would like to know more about our service or if you would like to join our team of fantastic PetStay carers!
Hello to all our customers, their four legged friends and the brilliant carers
It has been a busy few weeks. I took over the franchise at the end of March, we are now about 2 months later and things are going well. We have had lots of regular customers booking their lovely dogs in with their ‘own’ carer, but also new customers who, initially nervously, met with the carers that we picked for them and after realizing that their dogs would be very well cared for and even pampered while they went away, left the dogs in the carers’ capable hands.
We have been so busy that it was clear I needed to actively look for more carers and so I did. Several adverts on Facebook, leaflets in shops, vets, dog walking areas, an advert in the WI Gazette and signage on my van (see pictures) have already been very effective.
We have welcomed several more carers in our team: Sarah (Thorpe St Andrews), Hilda (Sprowston), Sandra and Garry (Attleborough) and Ann-Marie (Great Yarmouth). Two more sets of carers (Hevingham and Spixworth) are currently waiting for their licences and once they are approved they will be raring to go as well.
I am still interviewing carers at the moment so, watch this space, there will be new additions soon, I’m sure. If you are interested, or you know someone who might be interested in becoming one of our carers, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
We will soon add a ‘meet the carers’ section to our site so please do visit again soon.
