Welcome to the Leeds and Ilkey branch of PetStay. My name is Cheryl and this is Dookie, he is a rescue dog and has been with my family for the past 10 years.

As a dog owner myself I completely understand the importance of knowing that your dog is happy and well cared for when you go on your well-earned holiday, they are after all one of the family. Here at PetStay we offer a safe, loving home from home for your dog with one of our carefully selected carers.

Once we’ve had a chat and found out more about your dog I can then match him/her to the perfect carer and arrange a meeting so that you can feel confident that your dog will be settled once you are on holiday. We believe that your dog will be happier sticking to their daily routine and, as we do not mix dogs from other households, the stay will be exclusive to your dog. We ask that you bring your dog’s lead, bed, food and their favourite toys for their stay so that everything is familiar to them. Also, rest assured, your dog will only ever be walked on the lead and we ensure all carers’ gardens are secure. Lastly, all of our carers are referenced, fully insured and also licenced by the local authority plus, they all love dogs!

Here are the few simple stages of booking with PetStay.

Animal Aiders1st: Ring or email your local branch to discuss your dogs requirements and dates.
2nd: We will explain all about PetStay and what your next steps would be.
3rd: We then take all details about your dog and then match them to the most suitable carer.
4th: A meeting will be organised for you and your dog to meet the carer.
5th: If you are 100% happy with your carer you would then be ready to book with PetStay.
6th: No later than 5 days after your initial meeting, complete our on-line booking form and pay the booking fee.
7th: An email confirmation will be sent to you.
8th: You’re all booked in and don’t have to worry about anything.
9th: When you drop your dog/s off for their holiday you then pay the remaining balance to the carer.
10th: Go away with complete peace of mind and have a wonderful holiday.

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a PetStay Carer

What are the requirements of becoming a carer?

You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs and you need to be home during the day so you have plenty of time to give to the dogs you are caring for. You must have a secure garden and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have a dog of your own as long as your dog gets on with other dogs.

How are your carers vetted?

If you meet all the requirements listed above, we will come and visit you at your home. We will check the security of the garden, explain PetStay procedures and show you the guidelines each carer needs to follow. If you are happy with everything and we feel you would make a suitable PetStay carer, we would follow up a reference and arrange public liability insurance for you.

Do I need to be licensed?

If you are successful then you would apply to the council for a home boarding licence (if required by the local council), we can help you with this, it is a straight forward process.

How many dogs can I look after?

Our service is on a one-to-one basis, so only dogs from the same household will stay with you. You are allowed to take up to three dogs from the same household, BUT you choose what you are happy with. We will ask you how many dogs you would like to look after and what sized dog/s you would be happy to care for.

Do I have to provide the food?

No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Any toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.

Does the dog/s have to be vaccinated?

Yes each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, have been wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of the vaccinations will be brought to the meeting and shown to you.

What about walking the dogs?

All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. When you have your meeting with the owners all routines, including the number and length of walks, will be discussed. The dog is only ever walked on a lead.

What if the dog becomes ill?

We/you would endeavour to contact the owner or the emergency contact. The owner or the emergency contact would be liable for any expenses incurred in taking the dog to the vet.

How am I paid?

Your fee is paid as the dog is dropped off. This is a self-employed home-based position, is very flexible and fits around your lifestyle.

What happens next?

We have just collected our little Yorkie from Linda and Harry who have looked after her as if she were there own. We were worried about leaving her as she has a delicate digestive system and has had both her back legs pinned we need not have worried as her needs were taken on board and followed carefully.

George in Yeadon


George has just had a lovely few days with Jayne and Michael in Yeadon.
This was our first experience of PetStay and it has been first class from our first contact. Cheryl was helpful and thorough and found us careers immediately.
As a retired racing dog George is sensitive and anxious and does not do well in kennels so this is the perfect alternative, allowing us to leave him without worry.
I would recommend PetStay to everyone and Jayne was absolutely wonderful giving us updates on how George was doing. He came back very happy and I have no worries on leaving him again in the hands of PetStay and Jayne or their other careers.

“Amazing service from start to finish. After the initial meeting with the carers selected by PetStay we were very happy to leave our Jack Russell in their care. Our dog is a rescue, he’s a bit older and has a few issues that needed accommodating – this was no problem Cheryl talked through everything with us and made sure we had carers that matched our needs. We had a lovely relaxed holiday knowing that Jack was being cared for and we came back to a happy, relaxed dog who seemed like he’d had more of a holiday than us.

Flo looked after Sabi as we took a family trip to Lisbon for a long weekend. I was initially worried about him as he’s a rescue dog who was found on the streets as a puppy, so he can be a very sensitive soul, and I was concerned he might get distressed with us being away and not staying with family like he usually does when we need a pet sitter. Anyway, I had absolutely nothing to worry about, Flo was perfect for Sabi, she was very patient with him and understood he just needed a bit of time to come out of his shell on his own terms & he didn’t seem to that bothered about leaving when I picked him up! Will definitely love to have Sabi stay with Flo again in the future, thank you!

He’s had a lovely time with Lydia whilst we were away skiing, he is always very happy to go to Lydia for his holiday when we have ours. He settles in so quickly there, so we can relax on holiday knowing he’s well cared for.

Absolutely brilliant.
Frank is very unsettled when away from home and he just wasn’t happy in kennels.
Initially he had an overnight trial where he was unsettled which was to be expected but the carer was so helpful and patient with him and he eventually settled and we were able to go away knowing he was looked after and happy.
We no longer have to worry about what to do with him whilst we are away as we know he loves his home from home.

John and Pat were absolutely fantastic and would definitely use them again in the near future. Fudge had recently injured her paw and John and Pat looked after her so well, giving the medication on time to ensure she’s on her way to a speedy recovery, and they followed our instructions wonderfully. When Fudge came back she was fully recovered and extremely happy and excitable. They gave Fudge all the love and attention I definitely would recommend them! Thanks a lot, 5/5!

We’ve used PetStay on a number of different occasions and Cheryl is always very professional, friendly and accommodating in order to find us sitters for Reggie when our regular ones may not be available. When Reggie has stayed with either Pat and John, Linda and Harry or Lydia he seems to have had the best time and is well looked after which is such an important piece of mind for us as he really is part of our family.

My old boy Scamp 12yrs Sheltie and younger Pixie the border collie have had a happy weekend stay with carer Sophie in Chapel Allerton. They both have very different needs of which were accommodated with ease, even going out of their way at times. I would highly recommend Petstay as an alternative to kennels for our next holiday.

Our little Yorkie just had her second stay away from home she has a very delicate digestive system and I’m pleased to say her diet was adhered to which meant her routine was unbroken, she was taken for walks and introduced to other people at a local church meeting and she was fine so for a nervous dog I’m pleased all went well. She was allowed to sleep in her crate which is her comfort and safe zone she was very pleased to greet us on our return home but is having a little sulk today for leaving her. I don’t think PetStay is the cheapest by any means but you get what you pay for and I would recommend PetStay to all who want a break away and worry about leaving there much loved and precious pets at home.

Our dog TERRY stayed with LINDA and HARRY for the last 2 weeks. We selected PETSTAY because we didn’t want to leave Terry in kennels. The service provided by pet stay is Excellent.
LINDA and HARRY are a lovely couple who really cared about the dogs they look after.
TERRY settled in almost straight away being made a fuss of by LINDA.
When we went to pick TERRY up we could see that he was happy and relaxed and looked as though we had come to spoil his holiday.
We have no hesitation in using PETSTAY again and would definitely choose LINDA and HARRY if possible.

Misty stayed with her carer, Rita, for 2 weeks and came back happy and contented. I was impressed by the pre stay checks which ensured I was happy with the arrangements and Rita met Misty before the stay and knew they were compatible. Previously Misty had stayed in kennels and although well cared for came back stressed and anxious. This time I came back to a happy contented dog who had enjoyed her stay in Rita’s home. It was great to be able to keep in contact with Rita by text and I enjoyed my holiday knowing Misty was well cared for and content. Misty was happy in her home from home and I have already booked Rita to care for Misty on my next holiday.

Finding the right holiday home for our beloved Bulldog Bentley was of paramount importance to us. On our first meeting with Linda and Harry with Bentley we just knew they were the right Carers. He was integrated within the family and we were informed Bentley was a particular hit with the grandchildren! Thank you so much for your kind love and affection you gave to him. Infact in the first 2 days of him being back home he seems to be a little down in the dumps ?? We have just returned from picking Cassie up from Harry and Linda and just wanted to give you some feedback.

Firstly well done for pairing us with them, Harry and Linda are an absolutely lovely couple and the way they looked after Cassie couldn’t have been better.

Cassie looked like she had had a great time and David and I could tell that she had been well loved and cared for just like we do.

They are a credit to Petstay and we won’t hesitate in booking them again, we are now looking for dates for a longer break. We can’t boost them up enough but unfortunately for us that means that they will get booked up now because anyone who leaves their dog with them will be wanting to re-book and we may struggle to fit Cassie in!

Our dog Lucas is used to having us around all day, so we wanted a real home from home for him when we went on holiday.

We did a lot of research, finding some forms of boarding definitely not to our liking, before striking lucky and finding Kath and Colin. We rang to ask about the service they offer and after speaking for a little while we arranged to visit them at their home. This was an extremely important aspect of having Lucas looked after; we needed to see that he was going to be comfortable in a ‘strange’ environment. We were immediately put at our ease with the way Kath and Colin reacted to Lucas and more importantly the way he reacted to them. We told Kath and Colin about the things Lucas likes to do. A careful note was made so that his usual routine could be adhered to as much as possible. We left feeling reassured and confident we had made the correct decision regarding Lucas.

Lucas had all his familiar things with him when he went to stay with Kath and Colin, his bed and usual food and bowls and his toys. I asked if I could contact Kath and Colin during our holiday to make sure that Lucas was okay, and I was told that was no problem at all. We got an email telling us what they were getting up to together. More importantly, were told that Lucas was settled and happy.

We enjoyed a relaxing holiday knowing that Lucas was being looked after in just the way we needed him to be.

When we went to collect Lucas on our return he was playing ball in the garden with Kath, Colin and their grandson. He ran up to us to say hi, and then very quickly he went off to carry on playing ball with a ball that Kath and Colin had. He was in no hurry at all to leave his holiday home and new friends. Kath let Lucas bring his ball home as it was clear he was not at all willing to part with it. That ball is now his favourite toy, he takes it everywhere with him. He knows where it is at all times. We worry about what will happen should he lose it or it becomes worn out with so much use, he is so attached to it.

We would not hesitate to have Kath and Colin look after Lucas again, in fact we would plan our holiday around their availability! Lucas loves them and Kath and Colin obviously love Lucas and all the dogs they take care of. We know we found just the right people to look after Lucas. Thank you Kath and Colin – you are brilliant.

We hadn’t taken our two dogs, Texas and Dallas to a kennels before. The one time we didn’t take them with us on holiday, they were looked after by a family member who had known them since birth! We were very nervous about leaving them with anyone else being young dogs and very much part of our family. As we needed to find somewhere nearer to home (rather than Scotland!) we looked at kennels. We tried them for one night, and although the kennels were clean, warm and well run, we just didn’t enjoy leaving them there. Kennels were not for us!
I found PetStay via the internet and contacted them as they seem to offer a home from home’ environments with various local pet carers. Kath and Colin became our local pet carers for Texas and Dallas, and from the moment we first met them with our dogs we knew our dogs would be very well looked after…and that we could rest assured that Texas and Dallas would be happy. Kath and Colin make sure our dogs’ routines are carried on, feeding times, walks, treat times, playing in the garden and bedtime routines too. Kath and Colin welcome our dogs into their home every holiday stay and being in a home environment rather than kennels is much better for both Texas and Dallas and for us!

I was looking for an alternative to kennels for my new young dog, Peppa. As she was a part of our family under no circumstances was I going to leave her in a normal kennel environment no matter how highly recommended they came, cages, fences and minimal human contact was out of the question.
I also do not have any family I could leave her with when on holidays, so I made the decision I would stay at home and not go away because of not wanting to leave her. It was then I started to look on line and finally found PetStay After a number of calls to Carole about Peppa and what I wanted, I was put in contact with Kathryn and Colin.

As soon as I met them and saw how they were with Peppa(and how she was with them) I was more than to happy to finally book our summer holiday overseas. That was nearly two years ago now and Peppa has stayed with Kathryn and Colin on numerous occasions, treating it like her second home.

She is part of their family when she stays with them, going on trips to the seaside, and visiting their friends and family – exactly the loving, family environment I was looking for. Peppa is booked in again for 4 weeks over the Christmas New Year period this year so I can visit my family in Australia.

All my holidays are now booked in around Kathryn and Colins available dates, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Keeping your data secure

When you give us personal information we take steps to ensure that it’s treated securely and strive to protect it on our internal systems.  We ensure that:


  • Up to date antivirus and antimalware is installed on all endpoints across the PetStay franchise and franchisee network.
  • Security updates and patches are regularly applied to all components of the PetStay system.
  • Access to physical and digital systems within PetStay are restricted to only personal who explicitly need these rights to do their job.



Emailing us

We use Transport Layer Security (TLS) to encrypt and protect email traffic in line with government standards. If your email service does not support TLS, you should be aware that any emails we send or receive may not be protected in transit.


We will also monitor any emails sent to us, including file attachments, for viruses or malicious software. Please be aware that you have a responsibility to ensure that any email you send is within the bounds of the law.






Visitors to our Website
